"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
I don't know if anyone mention this. But this huge for Okafor. If they is any team out there that can fit his style of play (to a point) It would be the Pels. He loves to face up and isolate. Cousins did the same thing. Only thing is Cousin can shot from 3. Okafor just needs to get his defense as good as his offense.

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
I am in no way a huge Rockets fan but they have been a team I always keep an eye on for some reason. I loved the CP3 signing and that they resign Capela. Was disappointed that they lost Trevor, but....
The Carmelo signing makes zero sense to me at all!!!
I hate it, with a passion.
Was hoping they would come to there senses and not sign him.
I just don't get how he helps them at all. How he makes them better at all???
They don't need scoring, at all!
They need a strong defender who can bother Durant or LeBron (two of the teams they will need to beat to win a title).
Seriously OS NBA Forum members, enlighten me on how this is good for the Rockets.
I am willing to listen and try to understand.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Had they had Melo to absorb some of the isolation responsibilities when CP3 went down they likely beat GS this past year IMO.
Ariza fills a need for them more, but they added Ennis and if they also add Johnson like rumored they upgraded their Ariza slot while also adding another potentially dangerous scorer.
If nothing else is make things easier for Harden and CP3 IMO. Melo is not a great catch and shoot player but by reputation alone he garners more defensive attention than Ariza. Golden State left him wide open, and when he wasn’t open they left one defender on him and he wasn’t able to iso for himself. I think Melo gives them one extra dynamic.
As much as CP3 and Harden have the ball everyone on that team has a chance to iso once they get it. That’s something even washed up Melo is far and away better at than Ariza.. what offensive minded player hasn’t had success on this Houston team?
There were a lot of situations where they couldn’t even play Ryan Anderson this season. Against Golden State for example. In my opinion Melo doesn’t replace Ariza, he replaces Anderson. Melo has never been a great defender, but guarding guys like Draymond is something he can do. He is also a solid rebounder, and the type of guy who will feel right at home with having the green light again.

Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread
Isolation responsibilities lol. If teams want to respect Carmelo like that they do it via willful ignorance. This is a guy who shot 40% and averaged 1 assist per game when he had PG and RWB running with him. He's neither a ball distributor nor an effective iso scorer at this point in his career.Comment

And all he was shooting was late in the clock situations. I’m not saying he’s some great scorer. But he’s better than Ariza. And IMO putting him in iso situations which is all he’s ever been good at he would have delivered enough in that role.
I guess we’ll see.
