It was really last year's jersey that was that ugly yellow.

Sorry, Big Ben is NOT in the Hall.

My mistake. He's in the Michigan HOF and I think that screwed up my memory.

I really don’t understand the point of the black stripe. At what point has black ever been a huge part of the Lakers identity? Or any part for that matter? That’s just a random, hideous *** addition just for the sake of doing something

Hey guys.... Really stupid question. But where is the black strip? I'm color blind.

Down the side of the uniform on the purple jersey. The stripe is black. And I honestly think it looks better than the awful highlighter streak down the side of the previous one, but still plain like the 80's-90's looks best IMO.

Overall the changes are pretty "meh" to me. They all still look like a Lakers jersey with minor changes. I do like the rounded neck being back though, IMO on all but just a few teams I'll always prefer the rounded neck.

The rounded necks are what I grew up on. That's the showtime era. Love it.

It never was apart of their identity.

Other than the new black uniforms they had, it just doesn't fit.

                      Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread

Why does the NBA win the offseason every summer?

Because star players switch teams. A lot.

The combination of shorter contracts (something owners pushed for in recent CBAs to save themselves from themselves because they didn’t want to get locked into six-year deals they regretted) and elite players taking more control of their own destiny has led to a boom of player movement. That’s something fans find more interesting than the games themselves (just check any web site’s traffic numbers, and not just for basketball). In the end, the NBA wins.

How much player movement is there in the NBA: Marc Stein of the New York Times put out this stat in his must-read weekly newsletter, via the brilliant Tom Haberstroh:

In the 18 months since the 2017 All-Star Game in New Orleans, 12 of the 24 players who participated in that game have switched teams.

                      He’s the full list:

                      • DeMarcus Cousins. He was traded pretty much during that 2017 All-Star game from Sacramento to New Orleans. He signed this summer with Golden State.

                      • LeBron James. He left Cleveland this summer as a free agent to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

                      • Paul George. Traded from Indiana to Oklahoma City, where this summer he re-signed.

                      • Kawhi Leonard. He forced a trade from San Antonio and ended up in Toronto.

                      • DeMar DeRozan. Traded from Toronto to San Antonio as part of the Leonard deal.

                      • Carmelo Anthony. He was a Knick at the 2017 All-Star Game, was traded to Oklahoma City before last season. This season he was traded to Atlanta, which bought him out, and within hours of this story going up he will sign with the Houston Rockets.

                      • Jimmy Butler. Traded from Chicago to Minnesota (and former coach Tom Thibodeau).

                      • Gordon Hayward. Left Utah as a free agent and signed with Boston (and his college coach Brad Stevens).

                      • Kyrie Irving. Forced a trade out of Cleveland, was sent to the Boston Celtics.

                      • Isaiah Thomas. Traded from Boston to Cleveland in the Irving deal, then traded again at the deadline from Cleveland to the Los Angeles Lakers. This summer he signed with Denver as a free agent.

                      • DeAndre Jordan. Left the Los Angeles Clippers as a free agent, signing with Dallas.

                      • Paul Millsap. Left Atlanta as a free agent, signed with Denver.

If you thought this summer was wild, wait until next summer when two-thirds of the league’s teams will have more than $20 million in cap space and nearly half the players in the league will be free agents.

Decent move for a more defensive minded type compared to what they have. Seems like Altman's M.O. since landing his gig is to stockpile guys who can play that 2/3 spot but not any one particular guy you would want to play starters minutes. That's now Nwaba, Clarkson, Hood, Smith, Korver, Osman, I'm sure at least a few instances where Sexton and Hill are on the floor together and one of them is in the 2 spot also. Nearly half the roster is guys who'll log minutes on the "wing" but none of them (maybe Hood) look like they will be guys who will play 30+ minutes.

He’s going along with the trend in the league. Bring in multiple guys who are versatile to play 2-3 positions, especially out on the wings.

Definitely going with the trend, just not getting any of them who are starter level players lol. I guess Hood is when he’s right mentally. Hopefully he and Cedi get 30+ a night.

And almost all of those guys either signed elsewhere, got traded before signing elsewhere, or got traded because they weren't gonna stick around with their original team.

But don't worry, in NBA the players are the ones getting shafted by unloyal owners and GMs, because we've never seen players go into business for themselves, doing what's best for themselves. The moment a team does it, they're suddenly such horrible people, making it seem unprecedented that a team did what's best for their team over the player. Players can say they're loyal all they want, but until a guy turns down much bigger offers to stay with his team and/or stays on a team long term despite missing playoffs, he can't say he's loyal. Look at guys like Duncan and Dirk, now THAT is loyalty.
