We're in the small minority since we have an amazing local team with Clyde and Walt. Every time we have a national game, if the game is also being broadcasted on MSG I'll choose the local channel every time.

Most local teams border on unlistenable. There are some garbage commentary teams out there.

It's not like this city is some po dunk town in the middle of nowhere. Two of the Christmas Day matchups can easily be replaced by Raptors/Spurs. I'm over it though and will just let it ride. I'm just hoping ESPN and TNT air more games with the Raptors in them at the very least. It doesn't matter if it's on the road just give the team some damn exposure!
I wonder how much of it is U.S. companies worried that they are losing half the customer base when a Toronto game is on.

If they can't sell to Canadian consumers then they are losing money on the ad. Or the NBA / ABC lose money by charging less.

I think it's a case of just wanting exposure commensurate with the quality of play this team has put out over the last 3-5 years. If the Raptors were in a US market with all the success they've been having they'd be on US national television more often. BTW when the Raptors are on US national TV we don't even get the games here. In fact, even in the playoffs (unless the game is on ABC) we don't have access to the US feed. I happen to like Matt Devlin and Jack Armstrong/Leo Rautins as much or moreso than the national guys actually. (Admittedly, i'm more a fan of the Matt and Jack combo)

The thing i've heard is that the Raptors don't get the casuals out to watch the game on TV in the US. None of the ratings translate to the US networks either so it's losing proposition that way economically. There's also the issue of the cost of moving equipment across the border though that's remedied a lot if you air a Raptors away game. I get the ratings and economics angle but sometimes you got to swallow that a bit and at least shine a light on one of the premier teams in the league.

I could see a more likely scenario in the future like Raptors on Facebook/Twitter.

Multiple Jays games aired on Facebook this year. I know all teams are on there too, but the local networks weren't allowed to show the game. So MLB benefits by having Jays on Facebook since Jays ratings in Canada mean nothing to them, but getting hundreds of thousands of people on Facebook watching benefits them.

Make it to the Finals just one time and you'll play on Christmas, and get other big national spots. Pretty simple.

When was the last time Milwaukee was a #1 seed and made the playoffs on the regular?

I'm just being silly but it also shows that line of thinking doesn't quite work.

Raptors are getting 15 games on US national TV this year. Their most since 01/02. And I believe it's as many in regular season as they had COMBINED from the 2013 turnaround until end of last season.

Niiice! I'm glad to hear that. Well, you won't hear a peep out of me about being on US TV now.

I'm guessing the other 39 are on dates without any national game in the league lol.

Does all of Canada even want to watch the Raptors or just Toronto? Trying to force national coverage here for us to have to watch when the whole of the country they play in isn't even interested in them ain't cool bruh lol

TSN consistently gets very good ratings at least on the playoff games. I wouldn't know how good the numbers are across the board but considering they're on both national networks it would make sense that part of the overall number includes markets outside of Toronto.

People from across Canada do watch, but there's obviously fans of other teams in the country too. Though I find most who aren't Raptors fans are bandwagon fans. You'll see Lakers, Warriors, LeBron and so on following.

They don't have as big a following as hockey or baseball, but the number will obviously keep on growing as time goes on. They're also 12th in social media following which some do care about too since TV ratings are really a small sample size, not actually calculating individual people.

On the note of TV ratings though

Locally or nationally, nobody moves the NBA ratings needle like the Warriors and Cavaliers. Golden State and Cleveland posted the highest local ratings this season, and were the two most-watched teams on national TV.

They were 16th in US national ratings (not including NBATV). Ahead of Milwaukee,Miami and Detroit in the East (as well as Atlanta,Brooklyn,Orlando who didn't even get on), and similar to Chicago. Not one of THE markets, but still around middle of the league.

Top tier being the superstar teams (Warriors,Cavs,Celtics,Thunder,Rockets)
Next tier includes big market ones (NY,LA,Washington,Philly) and surprisingly ones like Charlotte/Sacramento.
Tier after are ones like Minnesota,Indiana,Chicago,Toronto,New Orleans
