He's been a clout chasing, buffoon for a while now. All he does is give hot takes, talk down current NBA athletes (remember the situation with Chandler Parsons last year) and crap on the Spurs organization. Thankfully, Tony is gone so he'll need to find a new person/subject to bury to get air time.

I'm pretty surprised he didn't find a way to spin this situation into ****ting on Tony, Manu or the Spurs organization, TBH.

Anyway, Wiggins has bigger fish to fry. He still has a ton of potential in him but needs to show a lot more on the defensive end.

Should be an interesting season for the Lakers, can't wait. Lebron ****ing James is here. Still unreal.

Anytime an owner has to step in and say he will handle trade discussions, you know the GM is soon gone.

        Bye bye Thibs.

Twolves want Dieng part of Butler deal.

Don't know how many would be interested in that.

If TWolves don't mind 2 years of Ibaka at around 45M, I'd take 3 years of Dieng for around 48M.

            I find that odd.

If we assume Thibs is gone if Butler is dealt, then it might be safe to assume Dieng gets his minutes back unless the Wolves add a better player in a deal.

I think, I could be wrong, but I think Gibson took Dieng's minutes. And I can't see a scenario where a new coach would favor Gibson over Dieng in a "rebuild" around Towns and Wiggins.

And Dieng might be worth his contract if he can play again.

              Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread

Realistically what about the Cavs throwing some sort of package with Clarkson, Hood, Hill, picks, etc..

Butler and Dieng would fit nice there, and with Love they could compete in the East so it makes sense for Cleveland.

I don’t see many teams throwing much more than that out for one year of Jimmy and Dieng’s contract. Clarkson and Hood are still potentially good players when they aren’t panicked like in the playoffs. Minnesota’s potential would only grow higher. Because if either of them finally truly break through they would be a great compliment for Wiggins and Towns.

Cavs likely lose Butler at the end of the year, but they would be a competitive playoff team this season and moving on from Clarkson and Hood (and then Jimmy) just jump starts their development of Sexton and Osman, which is going to be their plan regardless I would assume.

I’d give it to him before I give it to Jimmy.

Even if he comes here, I shudder at the thought of paying him $35-40 Mil in his mid 30s.

Yeah the age and the fact that he’s never really stayed healthy make it a tough decision on him.

Also even though he’s a great two way guy I feel like he falls just a bit short in many aspects that you would want a from a guy you’re paying that much at that stage of his career.

He’s not quite a 25+ a night guy. He’s not quiet a lock down defender in the sense of Kawhi. He’s not a freakishly athletic or long type that makes small differences and problems with those intangibles like a KD or Giannis type. I actually think he’s a better decision maker with his passing than comparable guys like PG, or Kawhi, but he’s not at that LeBron type level either. And where someone like KD can make up that ground a bit because of help and doubles Jimmy isn’t really the type to draw that type of attention either.

Basically he just falls short of that tier 1 level in just about every measure of his game. Which makes you question if that type of money is worth it, on top of him likely missing 15-20 games a year, and heading into his 30’s with that next contract.

Never stayed healthy? We talking about the same Jimmy Butler? He didn’t start having injury issues until his third and fourth years in Chicago and they weren’t even that serious. Minnesota is when he had his worst injuries.

Isn’t that more of a concern though King? When those injuries start to hit later in your 20s isn’t that more wear and tear than anything else, which is then the kind of stuff that sort of curtails your career from there?

For what it’s worth even though I’ve never seen Butler as injury prone, he does generally float below the 70 GP mark but is usually one of, if not THE, the league leaders in MPG.

His development into a legit 23/5/5 guy can’t really be faulted though I worry when the Cavs bring anybody who has done well elsewhere whose name isn’t LeBron James. And not to say Cedi will ever be on Butler’s level, I really want us to put our eggs in that basket and building a strong core of guys on cheap contracts.

I feel the exact same way in regards to your last point and why I’m hesitant to give up significant assets just yet. That goes for trading for any Star not named Lebron, Steph, or KD.

We just spent the last few years trying to clean up Billy King’s mess and put ourselves in the position we’re in now and I’m not ready to just blow that up just yet. I’m all about continued development from within.

FWIW, KAT’a contract only becomes $190 if he wins MVP or makes All NBA, which he made 3rd team in his 3rd season. Otherwise, it’s $158 Mil.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t advocating for giving Jimmy the contract he’s after and I totally agree that the injuries he’s sustained over the last several years would certainly make me hesitant to give up the farm to get him in a trade. Especially if you’re a team not allegedly on his list of teams he’ll sign an extension with. Who Jimmy has become in the last few seasons doesn’t lead me to believe he’s going to be the dude that gets traded to a team not on his list and then be convinced to stay. Jimmy is Hollywood as hell now and he wants to be THE guy on a team in LA or New York where he can hang out and rub shoulders with all his celebrity friends like Mark Whalberg all the time. I was just pointing out that OJ was inaccurate in saying that he could never stay healthy in his career as if he’s been suffering major injuries from the time he’s stepped on the floor the first time.

I didn’t say anything about major injuries, I’m just saying he’s always missed games and now is coming off a decently concerning injury. He’s missed 100 games over his 7 seasons. More than a whole seasons worth of games. It’s rare for him to hit 70+ games.
