    Re: 2018 Off-Season Thread

Considering that they will lose Jimmy for nothing and it seems like their “franchise piece” might want him gone now I doubt they have the option to be too picky here.

I feel like Minnesota will get them to take Dieng’s contract and a pick back in return. But a package would have to be Whiteside + Johnson/Dragic + Winslow. Heat would get Butler, Dieng, and fillers.

Plus for Minnesota would be Whiteside, Johnson, Dragic would all be short term contracts expiring after the next season IF they take their player options.

A re-motivated Whiteside could be a valuable piece for them, Johnson could replace Crawford’s 6th man spot or start at the 2, and Winslow is another young pice for them to keep building around who still has potential.

Might as well include a third team for all of that and from what I’ve read/heard from Stein and a few others is that’s most likely going to be the case.

I’ve heard the Kings would get involved to take back some salary as long as a pick is involved.

Either way, let someone else pay him $40 Mil in his mid 30s. I’m good on that.

Ya, for Butler + Dieng, Whiteside + Johnson would have to be part of the return.

Heat can only deal their 2019 pick since 2021 1st is gone. They also only have a 2022 second round pick(none other from 2019-2024). So not much in draft pick department to trade. And giving up that 2019 pick would be risky if Butler just leaves. Sacrifice your future for 1 year of a guy who isn't getting you past the 2nd round (unless people think Heat with Butler > Raptors,Celtics,76ers)

          Y’all trash anyway, ain’t nobody worried about y’all. [emoji42][emoji42][emoji42]

          Anyway, from ProBasketballTalk

What would a Miami trade look like? Heat fans (and likely the front office) suggest something like Goran Dragic and Justise Winslow for Butler, but the Timberwolves aren’t going to want a 32-year-old point guard who can become a free agent next summer as the core part of the deal, even if Dragic is an All-Star level player. Minnesota is set at the point, they have Jeff Teague. (That deal also adds salary to the Heat, who are already over the tax line, Miami doesn’t want to up that burden.)

Minnesota is rumored to want Josh Richardson to be the key piece heading back (Miami is reluctant to throw him in a deal), Winslow probably is part of whatever gets done (I have heard Bam Adebayo is not someone the Heat want to give up), then it’s a matter of what other picks and players/salaries are needed to balance it out. Miami would throw in Dion Waiters, but teams knew he was available all summer and didn’t bite, Minnesota isn’t going to now. Also in this, the Timberwolves would love to dump the Gorgui Dieng contract so this could be a three-team deal with Sacramento taking on Dieng in exchange for some draft picks or young players to go with their rebuild.

However it gets structured, that deal is better than most of the offers the Timberwolves likely will see. (In theory, the Clippers could put together a more veteran-heavy offer if winning this season is what matters to Thibodeau.) Miami’s offer likely makes as much sense as the Timberwolves are going to find in a shotgun trade like this one.

The problem is pinning the Timberwolves down and actually getting the trade done.

So Woj saying that Miami has been the most engaged team with Minnesota in a Jimmy trade. But the most interesting tidbit comes from this; “So far, no traction with Clippers and Nets. Houston’s tried to be creative with it’s pursuit. It’ll be a challenge - - although not impossible - - to get any Butler deal done without a third team.”

My question is why does Houston want in on this and what do they plan on trading that doesn’t ultimately hurt them to acquire him with?

Reports are that a Rockets deal would be centered around Eric Gordon.

The answer is obvious as to why they want in on Butler.

Now as far as what they can offer is another question that nobody knows right now. I’m guessing Gordon will be part of it and maybe they’ll(Minnesota)will try to acquire more from a third team.

Not sure what all would be in the mix, and what the 3rd team would have to provide, but just moving Gordon and Nene make the money work for Jimmy. Plus they have a trade exception from Anderson, that and Gordon alone might even get them Jimmy from a money standpoint.

Ariza was a big piece for them defensively, but if they replace that with Jimmy, Ennis, while keeping Tucker they definitely come out ahead on that end of the floor as well as on offense.

Offensively speaking they also come out ahead (especially with the way they play) by having Melo, Jimmy, Knight, and Ennis, over Ariza and Gordon.

That said, I thought Jimmy was aiming to head somewhere that he's more so the focal point. Even with all the heavy iso threats everyone gets their shot in Houston because literally very player on the floor can shoot/iso any time they touch the ball. But that is 3 really ball dominant guys he would see floor time with, quite a few players who defensive efforts would likely frustrate him as well.

Thibs about to get himself fired before the season even starts messing around with this Jimmy trade.

Zach Lowe and Woj reporting that Minnesota’s asking price is too steep for teams including Miami. They’re seeking quality vets/top prospects/future assets/cap relief. Sources are reportedly skeptical of Thibs’ desire to make a deal.

How you gonna try to get all of this at once? I love Jimmy, but he ain’t worth ALL of that. If you’re getting quality vets, you ain’t getting cap relief with it. If you want future assets, you ain’t getting top prospects and quality vets to go along with it. Thibs bout to be out of a job by the end of the week at this rate.

He's definitely on the the high wire. I think he really thinks that he can still bring Butler back into the fold and that the owner is not going to want to fire the coach this close to the start of the season

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Someone needs to tell Tristan Thompson that LeBron left Cleveland.

He basically said Cavs are the team to beat because they're the defending 4 time eastern conference champs.

Would it not have been at media day though? I imagine following a question like “you’ve lost LeBron so how do you see your chances?”

TT has done and said some stupid **** but this ain’t it. Can’t be admitting defeat in September.
