A reminder cavs pick next year belongs to the hawks for the korver trade the interesting part going forward is that it’s top 10 protected for the next 2 years. If it’s not been conveyed by 2020 it will be 2 2 round picks

Assuming Houston misses out on the LeBron sweepstakes, thoughts on PG replacing Ariza?

Not a huge PG fan but I don't think he would go as cold as Ariza did in that Warriors series. Plus he's obviously the better player so I think he could put them over the edge.

I thought Capela was a huge part of the Rockets regular season and post season success, but really didn’t have that much impact in the GS series. I think it would be worth it for them to sign and trade him or move along for someone like PG if possible.

If their mission really is just to beat GS, having someone like PG that series instead of Ariza could have pushed them over the top as close as they played them already.

              Trae, Booker, Jackson, Warren, Ayton

That’s a pretty nasty young lineup. Just have to hope Trae and Booker can develop some defensively.

Also if Lue is still the head coach next season, maybe we finally see if he's a real NBA coach.
Sans LeBron, they probably trade Love and Korver. Then, they spend the next two years waiting out the bad contracts. In the East, they're probably around the 10-11 seed for those two seasons. Cavs will likely look to contend again in 2020-2021.

We don't need too and shouldn't for that matter get rid of Capella, he was pretty much the second most important (not second best player) on our roster all season along with what Chris Paul brought. The main thing we need to do is see if we can find a way to get rid of Rhino which while I love the guy, makes far too much and was all but unplayable during the post season. We need Capela to continue to be our rim runner and protector like he has, all while continuing to improve (if he could hit free throws at even a low 70s/high 60s rate man...). If he gets better defensively which I believe he will and we can flip Rhino and get a young backup PG and a wing/big man this would be a great off season.

What kind of contract do you expect Capela will command? Will the Rockets be able to afford it after paying Chris Paul the super max? What if they also make Paul George an offer? Will Capela turn down a near max offer from another team while waiting to see if Paul George will accept a Rockets offer?

While I agree with all of this, I’m not sure it still wouldn’t be better to upgrade elsewhere even at the expense of losing Capela to beat Golden State. If they pay Capela big they won’t make significant upgrades elsewhere. And just an extra piece off the bench likely doesn’t push them past GS next year considering GS will definitely be retooling this offseason as well. And even longer term, GS is younger than Houston so it’s not like they can wait them out.

In a hypothetical world, do you lose both of those last two games this year with Paul George instead of Ariza if whoever you replace Capela with can still get up and down the court like him? PG would have given you guys someone who could attack other than just Harden, and even if he did take a ton of threes he’s not going 2 for 18 like Ariza did.

As for the Raptors...The finalists aren't exactly making me jump for joy. A couple Spurs assistants, Nick Nurse, and some euro league coach.

Can you imagine paying Chris Paul 47 million at age 38?

He didnt fight for more pay in the CBA for nothing.

Rockets dont make him happy theyre gonna be sorry when dealing with future free agents. You can't just con the players association president.

Also Capela is crucial to their success. He's a big part of their defense if nothing else.

Messina is one of those guys that seems to be on the "assistants who'll be a head coach one day" list. Being with Spurs for past 4 seasons and having success in Europe as well, he wouldn't be a bad option. Sounds like he could actually be the leading candidate at this point. And he was a guy the Raptors were looking at before they even hired Casey.

And that euro league coach seems to be one of the big time guys in European basketball history. Popovich even wanted him to coach the Spurs summer league team this past season(and who knows, that might have even lead to an assistant coaching job in the future) but he turned it down (I think it was either due to personal reasons or prior commitments)

Regardless who the coach will be, obviously roster changes will need to be made. Not something small like new depth pieces to "space out the floor" or any of that. They need legit changes in starting lineup. Unfortunately, doesn't seem like it'd be possible to deal the guys who'd need to be dealt(Lowry/Ibaka)
