    Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread

Jerry West out here playing chess and Magic Johnson playing Go Fish.

    Shrewd trade by the Clippers.

Philly's roster looks like one of those old 90s tough Eastern Conference playoff teams. Along with Milwaukee and Toronto, the eastern playoffs might actually be fun.

All eyes turn to Boston but I think Ainge sits on his hands waiting for the summer. Boston actually looks too soft to me to make any real noise.

With like all the big name FA and all the teams like Lakers, Knicks, Clippers have room for like 2 max guys and with the talk about if KD or Klay or both will leave GS its going to be a very interesting summer this year.

I like the trade for Clippers because with a Gallo trade, that frees up a lot of space for next year. They also have some good trade assets as well.
For Sixers, it depends on how well Brown can coach those guys and manage touches. Joel is going to be 1st option. Ben needs ball in his hands to be successful. JJ is great fit due to him being a off ball scorer. Managing touches for Jimmy and Tobi will be key for their success. I seen where people were complaining about not trying to get Beverly in the deal. I see the Sixers looking for Buyout Candidates for bench. Their Big situation is alot better. And I like TJ as back up PG. They need to address the wing depth. Especially wing defenders.

Would be huge for them if Wilson Chandler was 2-3 years younger. He was a pretty solid two-way guy but age and injuries have slowed him down a bit.

Never mind, didn't realize he was in the trade.

Clippers clearing cap space, but how bad do players actually want to go there? If the Lakers have cap room I don't see a player going to Los Angeles and picking the Clippers honestly.. Maybe Kawhi if he's really uninterested and what they are doing there and sharing his touches/attention with a player like LeBron, but anyone else seems like a stretch to say they would choose the Clippers IMO. But maybe I'm way off on that.

What a friggin move by Jerry West. The stuff of legends...
                • The Clippers are now out of playoff contention, allowing the Kings to rise in the standings and devaluing the 1st SAC is sending to Boston. Not by much, but it's something.
                • The Clippers's own 2019 1st--which was heading to Boston but is Top 14-protected--will now not convey this year. One less asset for Boston to use in their immediate pursuit of AD, one more for the Clips to use.
                • The Clippers added PHI's 2020 1st and the unprotected Miami 2021. Big assets if they choose to pursue AD in a trade.
                • If they can move Gallo (Kings have been rumored to a be likely spot) they've got a ton of cap space this summer to pursue the elite FAs. He took on two expirings and got a nice, dirt cheap young player Shamet; he didn't damage their future flexibility at all.
                • Improved Philly's roster, adding pressure to Ainge to act now or potentially pay more over the summer to catch up to Philly.

And all West gave up was three expirings they weren't bringing back anyway. You can't hit a trade farther out of the park. Brilliance.

Utah's final offer to the Grizzlies for Mike Conley, per @Tjonesonthenba on the show: First-round pick, second-round pick, and expirings, dollar for dollar. Grizzlies asked for Exum and were told no.
Good. Not ecstatic over moving Rubio, Exum, and picks for Conley. That contract is brutal

Agree with all of this, but they don't even have anything remotely close to the type of assets that would land AD in a trade. In a great position to sign him after his "rental" if the Lakers don't get him in a trade though.

Honestly, I feel like the Laker's hard push to land AD is tied to their concerns on whether other star players want to play alongside LeBron. I'm no so sure they are confident things will break their way in free agency this summer.

Probably not but you never what happens in the lottery. Say they land a Top 5 pick...

All I'm saying is there are more possibilities now. If NOP stands pat on preferring a ton of picks over the Lakers underwhelming young players and Boston doesn't include Tatum, things could get interesting.

Of course, you're then entering the territory of completely gutting your team but if it lands you AD & Kawhi then they may consider it.

I agree with this. I think it's real, even KD said it publicly of course. Unless that makeup session with Kyrie really led to something magical I don't see a star going to the Lakers this summer. Kyrie is also his own dude; it's been reported many times that he doesn't plan on choosing his destination based on another star's decision. Just because he gained maturity and insight to apologize to LeBron doesn't mean he wants to run back to him and be a Robin again.

This is why so many people were questioning LeBron's decision to go to the Lakers; it was a real possibility that he wasn't going to land his Wade/Bosh or Kyrie/Love there and the young pieces ain't it.

Apparently the Raptors are one of the more active teams trying to get a deal done and after the Harris deal in Philly the heat is on. It'll be interesting if Masai pulls the trigger on something or not.

Apparently, there was question that Lowry asked for a trade which he's denied.
