I'm not sure but I do know that Randle is making $8.6 mil with the Pelicans while Lakers decided to pay KCP $12 mil, Rondo $9 mil, and Beasley $3.5 mil.

I still think Rondo has a place on this team but Randle should've gotten paid KCP's salary. But again I don't remember the situation exactly and maybe Randle wouldn't have accepted that if it was offered?

Yep, that's why I never bought the "he's getting better with age" talk. He's gotten to be a more well rounded scorer, yes, and is more reliable in crunch time, but his improvement on the offensive end is just as significant as his decline on the defensive end. On top of that he's become a worse free throw shooter and his sloppy play/turnovers have increased. It's a testament to how great of a player he is that he's still the best player in the world, but the decline is undeniable.

Right now the Rockets, Thunder, Wolves and Lakers are out of the top 8.

I know I know, it's early. But that's two legit contenders and one so so in just about the Lakers territory that need to leap teams in the playoff picture.

It isn't gonna be easy for the Lakers.

They needed to have KCP. It's the LeBron tax, gotta have the Rich Paul guys on the team.

As I understood it, the Lakers had to let Randle leave in order to have 2 max slots. Which, in somewhat hindsight, was a horrible idea. But, then again, Randle is in the perfect spot for him. He and AD are a perfect match.

The Thunder are contenders because they have everything they need to at least get to the conference finals. It’s just very dependent on Westbrook learning to pick his shots 11 seasons into his career and George not choking in the playoffs. Outside of that, one of the better physical centers in the league, some good young role players and most importantly, one less selfish ‘superstar’ taking the ball away from two genuine top 20 players.

As for Houston, they now have that other selfish ‘superstar’ and have to find a way to improve on how last year ended while also keeping his messy *** happy. If they don’t pick it up soon they’re gonna be in trouble because the West is getting stronger.

                    Re: 10/23 - 10/29 Games Discussion Thread

LeBron’s biggest issue defensively is he plays too much to avoid fouls. He’s played at the back of the defense the past couple years now and while it seems like he does a great job at the Tyson Chandler-like verbal cues there are many times where he himself doesn’t finish the play if it puts him at risk of committing a foul. In a way they have to play like that because they need him on the floor, but in other ways it puts a cap on how well they can be defensively. I think on a good defensive team he would still be an elite level defender in his role, but on bad defensive teams many times when he plays to avoid fouls they get easy buckets because there has already been 2-3 breakdowns as a team at that point.

Kuzma still gets lost on rotations, KCP is overaggressive on ball, Rondo likely won’t play above average defense until the playoffs, Ingram/Bron/JaVale still seem to be a pretty disruptive trio but can only play at that level with all 3 on the floor for so many minutes a game.

I don’t agree that Randle would have made a great fit. Just another iso guy who can’t make plays, and likely can’t defend bigs much better than Kuz anyways, and doesn’t help their shooting. He would help them from a rebounding standpoint, but what they actually need is a couple scrappy types who don’t need the ball. Rotations of Bron, Kuz, Hart, Ingram, Lance, Randle would be hard to manage with all of them wanting to attack every time they touch the ball. They already have an over abundance of that as constructed. Randle has his moments, but you can’t really have 8-9 guys with the same mindset in terms of iso attacks and only a couple of them be able to make plays. Plus in that scenario at least one of Randle, Kuz, Ingram would have grown un-happy with their lack of touches I’m sure.

Wasn't wanting Randle on this team for his offense at all, it's for his rebounding, defense, and toughness. Lakers needed a guy last night who could actually secure the rebound, box out, and protect the rim a bit. He's most qualified to do those things more than any Laker not named Javale.

Maybe so, but they can find someone to do those things who doesn’t disrupt their offensive flow, can actually shoot, and doesn’t keep them from landing another big name next year.

I think they could have gotten a better trade for him, or just kept him one more year and let him walk, but I don’t think he’s really the answer to their problems.

76ers really need to get Amir Johnson out of the rotation the only thing he can even do average is rebound.

If that guy is indeed out there, they're gonna have to trade for him and likely get rid of a key piece. Otherwise that dude would be on the squad right now.

They need Dedmon from the Hawks. He's the ideal fit IMO.

Dedmon has been playing well in the few games he came back and is a perfect fit since he is a expiring and comes cheap. If Alex Len can play like he did last night and Spellman keeps up his solid play you have to trade Dedmon.

I guess it would look something like Bonga plus a future 2nd round pick and I would think the Hawks could beat that offer somewhere. We have one of the worst GM's in the league who cut two important players without getting anything back last year so anything is possible. I would look for a trade of Jeremy Len + Dedmon and getting back a 1st round pick and taking on a bad contract. Since the LA doesn't have Deng anymore if those two players are packaged together then LA wont be able to get Dedmon.
