LeBron(he is awesome!) most certainly is part of the future of the NBA's success but there are other future stars like D. Wade that the NBA is hoping will help the league regain more love as a whole from fans. It seems that the NBA focuses too much on manufacturing superstars through hype instead of letting them earn their prestige/props on the court. It seems like this process started with Bird/Magic comining into the league and since those guys earned/lived up to every accolade that was giving to them, the NBA started marketing players 1st and teams second. When you go out of your way to mass market individuals, you set yourself up for a potential fall if that player strays/falters. Fans of the NBA and the NBA reps seem way too quick to throw labels on players these days. It's always the next KG, MJ, Bird, Magic, etc. Let these guys start their own legacy instead of following someone else's.
While the NFL does this to a certain extent, they tend to expose the teams/organizations a lot more than the NBA. Fans of the NFL seem more likely to follow teams regardless of personnel where as a fan may switch from team to team depending on the players in the NBA(ex:Magic fan may become Rockets fan due to T-mac trade). Very few fans of the NBA these days have a team they follow regardless of who's there. IMO the NBA needs to start spotlighting other players on these teams during broadcasts instead of the same superstars for each team they talk to on nearly every broadcast and back off the legend comparisons and let these guys develop their own persona.
Sorry for the rant guys
