Originally posted by SuperFreak84It could also be said that average players shooting higher percentages don't see the intensity and aren't the focal point of defenses. So that may be why the shooting percentages are down because those star players are the first option on their teams and expected to carry their teams.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

Re: Wing players shooting 50 %? Wow.
I don't think he's talking about any player in particular, although obviously we can apply Kobe to this situation.
The problem, though, is not even close to being just Kobe. It's T-mac, it's Iverson (although he is looking to pass a bit more this year), it's EVERYONE! Everyone wants to shoot and score 40 points a game. They don't really care about the rest of the team.
I think the original post was a great point. I've seen games where Jordan would shoot only 5 shots in the first half because he was looking to play within the team. Then, when the situation called upon him, he would take over in the 4th. He rarely forced up shots, and rarely ever took a bad shot.
He and Lebron have both said something that I found interesting. Jordan once said that he looks to get his team involved early in the game and not consider scoring. He said he needs to warm his team up and get his team involved so that they feel comfortable FIRST (This was partly because he KNEW that he could score, so he knew he could hold it off). Lebron said something of similar affect after he scored his career high 43 points at the Pistons.
And to the poster above who called Lebron and Wade "average NBA players", I think you need your head checked. They know how to play the game and they are not selfish, and they are STILL scoring up there with the leaders and getting great stats. But stats aside, their teams are WINNING GAMES, and that's what matters. This is what sets them apart. They want their team to win, they dont care about stats.
After Lebron scored those 43 points against Detriot, the commentator said to Lebron "how does it feel having your career high tonight against the pistons" and he said "I dont care about the career high, thats not important to me. We got the win and thats what counts." He talked about how they got the win and how it didnt matter how many points he got because his teammates played great.
If every player in the league was like these 2 players, we would see the best basketball ever. Sick thing is, they are not the most talented players in the league probably. If Kobe, T-mac, Dirk etc all played the way these 2 SECOND YEAR PLAYERS played, they would be unbelivable, and their teams would have great records.Comment
