I don't know what to make of Victor yet. He looks like MJ in Space Jam when he stretches his arm out to dunk at the end except that's Victor's regular body lol. It looks so weird but man the talent level is pretty crazy for his age. I can't even imagine how good he'll be when he's Chet's age.

What’s everyone realistic expectation for this team coming into these games?#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2020 Olympics USA Men’s Basketball Thread
Just to look like they ****ing care. Not a single dude out there who looked like they wanted it even half as badly as Patty Mills or Thybulle did.
Sure these aren’t the real games yet, but they are going out there like “regular season game in November” and the other teams are treating it like they’re going for gold.

I guess I expected this team to be able to score. But most important defend. That's what we're really good at in compared to other countries. Defend the 3 point line and rebound. But we can't even do that. Only person playing really hard is Draymond green. On offense the ball just doesn't move enough in my opinion.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Guard rotation is basically Dame/Beal/LaVine
Garland has played like 3-4 minutes each game as well.

Re: 2020 Olympics USA Men’s Basketball Thread
So they just put together a roster of a bunch of guys who can score in isolation? Lol
Not many defensive guys on this roster either. Okay I take back what I said, Pops got dealt a not-so-great roster here.Comment

Re: 2020 Olympics USA Men’s Basketball Thread
It shouldn’t matter.. we have Dame and KD, they have Patty Mills and Joe Ingles.. like just act like you have at least 1% pride in playing defense and we shouldn’t lose.

Re: 2020 Olympics USA Men’s Basketball Thread
Cohesion matters though and this team was just thrown together. Thought we learned our lesson in 2004 that we can't just throw a team together anymore and expect them to beat everyone just because we're more talented. Those days are long over.

Idk it sucks that they’re 0-2 so far(we’re not used to that so naturally as fans, we’re going to start getting nervous)but I haven’t see anything alarming yet that makes me think they’ll be facing new threats aside from the usual countries(Australia, Spain, Croatia, Argentina).
It took us 4 years to bounce back from the 04 Debacle(they played like **** during the 06 World Championships and still finished 3rd)while trying to rebuild the program then. Matter of fact, I think during the 2016 Games, folks were fussing about that team too, lol.
These guys were thrown together less than 2 weeks ago and just started practicing a week ago, which is a reason why the ball movement hasn’t been anything special so far. That chemistry and cohesion is going to take time, especially since they’ve yet to develop an identity as to what they’re going to be outside of just the most talented squad in the games, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see them struggle out of the gate right now.
I think once they changed the schedule up from the summer to during the season, that put us as a disadvantage since we couldn’t send our best guys to play in the World Championships and other exhibitions that they could use the time to develop that chemistry in between the time of each Olympics.
The rest of the world has been catching up to them over the years and we already know how they treat their games against the US like Game 7 of the Finals, whether it’s an exhibition or game with meaning.
Not trying to defend 0-2 and I get that people are going to react in the moment to their performance, I’m just trying to bring some logic and reason to keep people from reaching for the fire alarm after a week. They looked like a team who bounced back from the Nigeria loss, especially in the first half so I don’t think it’s a pride thing that burned them last night. If that was the case, that game would’ve been more “uglier” especially in the 2nd half.Last edited by ProfessaPackMan; 07-13-2021, 09:01 AM.#RespectTheCultureComment

Don't know how much this has to do with the struggles but it's karma if true and on the NBA for allowing players to develop their games like this.

So, if a guy like Tim Duncan that played inside and was used to getting calls got tired of having to adjust (to the lack/different calls) then of course modern players will too.
They just need to adjust, period, and they eventually will.
They likely won't go undefeated, but winning the gold medal is still attainable with this group. Like Pack said, the Olympic organizers did team USA no favors by placing a lot of qualifying tournaments and other events during the NBA season (which was clearly intentional) and the world continues to catch up.
Plus, you throw in the pandemic (which meant little prep time or team USA workouts), losing out on the Curry, James, Harden, etc. level talent and that is recipe for struggling out the gate.
