That Live 2003 is better than NBA 2k3.Once I made the adjustment on Live to arcade and changed the settings Im became convinced that its better.I like 2k2 on Dreamcast better than this Bullsh1t azz 2k3 on ps2.

My opinion states, you don't have the patience it takes to master a challenging game (NBA2k3) that throws many factors into a video game that you are only used to seeing on TV.

Botton Line : "it's the real deal NBA" Maybe you werent expecting a game that showed a real simulation of the NBA. Maybe thats what the games on TV are for and you like LIVE because it portrays a different aspect?

wally, you excuse every 2k3 problem as people not knowing what there doing, and dismiss any live positive by saying it's arcade, when that has been remedied. i'm sorry but me, many others cannot stand a nba where the fast break and passing game is so flawed....it shouldn't take you time to know how to pass and do fast break....TIMING yes, but anyone who's played b-ball knows how a fastbreak goes...and rainbow shots, jerky play, and other things are turn off's, when imo live just lets you have fun

I think Wally wants to try Live, i think he's intrigued by what he sees about it on the board. Maybe he is concerend that his feeling of contentment with 2k3 may waver a bit. Ofcourse i could be wrong......sort of

This version of Live, IMO, is the most challenging and realistic yet. I, myself, have won around 4 games out of 16 so far, some by a close margin but the majority I've lost by atleast 10. The CPU is so smart, though there's always room to be smarter. Its not just a game where you can win by offense and lackluster defense. I think that defense is the key to winning. I've never felt as if I have to know plays or had to see whose guarding who. If I put allan houston on Kobe, Kobe will dust me every time. If i put McGrady on Kobe, Kobe will be pressured into passing the ball or taking stupid shots. Live 2003 forces you to think before you pass, think before you drive, and think before you shoot. If thats not like the NBA, I dont know what is.

No, I haven't played NBA 2k3 and no this isn't a comparison between that and NBA Live. I'm just trying to make a case that Live is actually not as arcadish as people make it seem. Don't let the distances of the blocks or the frequency of steals fool you. Dont let the shortage of offensive rebounds fool you. Any person that has played Live for atleast 10 games realizes that the frequency of steals and lack of offfensive rebounds goes down as you get better. The same goes for CPU shot percentage. Once you play a good amount of games you should be able to D up with the CPU and lower that percentage 10-15%. I'm not saying Live is better than 2K3 or Inside Drive. I'm just saying its a good challenge and pretty darn close to a simulation once you get to understand the nuances of its gameplay.

Intrigueing, I rented Live, and it's no where close to NBA2k3 this year. It's good for the Live series, but those 100mph passes, and players being able to intercept the ball with one outstretched hand are ridiculous. The blocks are basically street blocks with emphasis on the "street". Playing in one stadium also shows laziness on the developer's part. I appreciate the effort of making this game fun, but it's a casual gamer's game at best. It comes no where near 2k3 as far as a basketball sim is concerned.

Hmmm, i wish I didn't sell my PS2... I wouldn't mind trying out 2k3. I must argee, I wasn't impressed with 2k2 on PS2 compared to the DC version. It just didn't look or feel as smooth. I haven't played Live 2003 or 2k3 for any system yet, but I'd have to say to this point, 2k2 on Dreamcast was the best hoops game I've ever played. Ah well. Just one more month until Live 2003 for PC...

I agree with Mr. Williams' assessment. Live IS deep in terms of CPU A.I. and gameplay difficulty. I am finding it equally difficult on both games (2K3 and Live) to win at the highest level, I just have a lot more fun losing on Live because I feel it is more because of what I did than what I didn't (or couldn't) do in 2K3.

The other super-realistic part of Live that I've never felt has been done very well by ANY b-ball game is the differentiation of Players through the freestyle control. I have to learn the individual skills of everyone on my team to see if they can or can't do all of the moves successfully. It seems to me that there are at least 5 different lines of division in different player's abilities to do all the moves. There are your superstars (Iverson, Kidd, Kobe, etc) who are just sic and can do every move LIGHTNING fast, there are the complete chumps (Spencer, MacCulloch) who jam it off their foot more often than not and feel like they are moving in sand when you try a move, but then there are so many levels in between, where a guy like Rashard Lewis won't every fumble the ball but is not as fast and fluid as the Superstars. The real fun comes in the guys who are seemingly right on the cusp, who can do the majority of the moves, and do them reasonably quick but still fumble the ball if you try to do too much (like Rick Fox). In fact, if you take the Lakers starting 5 you get a pretty good feel for all types of Players. Bryant is off the hook fast, Fisher is fast but not lightning quick but never fumbles the ball, Fox is on that dividing line I just mentioned, Samaki is slow and will fumble the ball and Shaq is pretty much dreadful, though he is not the worst in the game and I think that's fair cuz I've seen him do a spin through traffic before (remember last year's playoffs?) and he moves alright for a big man.

IMHO this feature in and of itself equals depth of gameplay. That is realism to a degree I've never seen before, monster blocks or fast breaks be damned.

this is just my opinion but having 10 blocks with a PG is not realistic at all and for me there is nothing in the game that can make up for that lack of realism. for me at most live 2003 is nothing more than a party game with friends to show off with dunks and monster swats. If your a true nba fan like I am and not just a nba highlight fan then I think you'll agree with me that NBA2k3 is the way to go even with the passing problem. Just my opinion

even then, I've found major nba fans liking unrealistic "Fun" games to play on there off time, and they're leaving the real simulation to the games they attend to in person. That makes them no less or more of a hardcore fan than anybody who likes simulation video games.

But whats wrong with two types of simulation, real time and video game. I like them both

I've got to jump in on this for the sake a gamers still on the fence with these games. I bought 2K3 1st day then returned it for Live 2 days later. IMO, the PACE of the game in 2K3 was too plodding to me to represent the NBA game authentically. The passing game is too inconsistent to be enjoyable, in spite of a lot of positives in the game. HOWEVER, I do like the 2K3 game system as a whole. Because of this, I decided to go with Live to provide me with a faster, more wide-open pro game to play while waiting for NCAA 2K3 BBall to arrive in December. I think 2K3's pace is suited perfectly for the college game and I can't wait to see the game system in action in that game. 2 games, 2 styles, all bases covered. Just my 2 cents.
