Re: I got both LIve and 2k3 on the same day.after days of playing I must say ..
The problem is not with the actual SPEED of the players' movement. It is with the tempo and flow of the game. As has been noted on this board literally hundreds of times, 2K3 lacks a true fast break game. Yes, yes I know about and used maximum passing and tried several of the methods suggested for improving passing, but these rarely worked and they don't help the CPU at all. I could understand if there was a defined difference between teams that pushed the ball (Nets, Mavs, Sonics) versus half-court oriented teams (Heat, Knicks), but there isn't. ALL teams suffer from this.
I disagree with statement that the college game is faster paced than the pro game. College basketball, with all of it zone defenses and without the defensive 3-second penalty, is much more pass-oriented. College teams that constantly push the ball to score fast break points are rare. In college you see more sophisticated half-court sets, more swing passing in search of holes in the defense, a more deliberate pace, which NBA 2K3 represents well. The lack of TRUE fast break opportunities would not be nearly as glaring in the college version of the game (and may even be fixed between now and December).
I don't think this whole issue with 2K3's passes (inapproriate lobs, stop in mid-stride catches) would even be a problem if the plain directional passing wasn't so inaccurate. Live's directional passing works so much better; I rarely even use icon passing in it. More accurate directional passing would improve the situation in 2K3 immensely because then you could use maximum passing more effectively.**********************************

Re: I got both LIve and 2k3 on the same day.after days of playing I must say ..
I got both games on release day. I have played Live and 2k3 both, and I am not feeling live. Its just in the game. Alot of folks are complaining about missed inside shots on 2k3 but thats what Happens in real life. Nba Players miss uncontested jumpers layups and dunks frequently. Many people, I am starting to believe, don't even watch basketball maybe half a game or something. But they believe what they see in high lights is the true essence of the NBA. Live is targeted to younger gamers point blank, if you want a game of dunks and blocks from everyone, and I mean everybody is blocking shots in this game then live is the game you want. It seems like VC and EA or going in oppisite directions. LIve is a good game it has things about it that make it fun, but it is far from sim and I adjusted the stats and it helps a little. Which brings me to the most obvious flaw in live. No customization, no sliders, That way you can allow people to choose the gameplay not force to accept this dunk fest. I remember reading a post a while ago and a guy made a good point some people want a highlight play sim meaning if its baseball you are hitting mad homeruns, in football you can bomb it out all the time, and in basketball its fastbreaks, dunks and blocks, and of course the mmmaaaaany crossovers.Comment

I don't like either one of these games but you can't pay me to play NBA 2K3 again. This game is so real that it's boring. And I figured out why I'm so bad at this game it's that I get bored and no longer try to win anymore. No fastbreaks=Less fun=No buying for me."More than a Hustler, I am the definition of it.

Shaq had the best shooting percentage of everyone in the L last year at 57.9 he missed 445 shots thats at least 8 a game and thats of course no more then 5 feet from the goal or a dunk. So if the unmovable object known as shaq misses at least 8 times a game just think about everyone else. I remember the best alley I ever saw was the one Vince Carter missed when he was playing Duke when ed cota threw it from half court vince dunked so hard he missed it to half court. I have seen centers and powerfowards missed shots over and over again, have you ever saw the knicks play the bulls in the playoffs and charles smith power foward for the knicks pulled a 0 for like 12 after he missed numerous put backs under the goal. And as for guards and small fowards No body gets a clear lane every time they drive so when they do drive the odds are they won't get a easy lay up or take off and dunk at a high percentage.Comment

Re: I got both LIve and 2k3 on the same day.after days of playing I must say ..
For all of the people who are complaining about NBA 2K3, I have something to say. First of all, for you who say it is too easy, try using those things called sliders to make it harder. I have been playing the 2K series since the Dreamcast and this year's version is by far the most realistic. I was having an easy time with 2K3 also and I bumped up some of the sliders to the max and I am having a wonderfully realistic experience playing in my franchise. If you bump the offensive awareness, defensive awareness, and defensive stopping power sliders, you will find it a lot more difficult to score. I am shooting 45% for the season as a team. It's great. I am not saying Live is bad or unrealistic because I dont have it and havent played it. But for those who are saying that 2K3 is easy or not realistic, they didnt give it enough time. All games have learning curves. And as far as missing easy shots, you can also bump the close shots percentage slider so that these shots go in. But, in my opinion and experience, unless a lay-up or dunk is heavily contested, you are not going to miss it. You can also miss if you are trying to come in from the side and go high off the glass. Then it can rim out. But usually you only miss if it is contested. Does anyone remember the Charles Smith play for the Knicks back in 1993 (I think) when he missed 5 consecutive contested lay-ups? These things happen, fellas. Shaquille O'Neal doesnt take one shot outside of 7 feet, yet he shoots 55% from the field, so explain that? You people who complain have to give the game time to learn rather than just jumping in and wanting to go 82-0.Comment

If EA made Madden the way they made live, heads would roll. This game is way too over the top to be compared as a sim. The freestyle control is a step in the right direction, but this "but it's fun" argument doesn't hold water. Any true basketball sim fan is going to pick this game apart. 2k3 does so much well that this argument is becoming pointless. We should rename these threads to "what is more fun for you?" rather than compare the sim aspects as it aint even close.Comment

This thread is getting to be a real hoot! Why does anybody play videogames except for "fun"? I can undertand if realism is what makes a game fun for you, but that is not what some of you are arguing.
You are making "fun" into some kind of dirty word which is pretty friggin' funny in the context of playing videogames.Comment

Re: I got both LIve and 2k3 on the same day.after days of playing I must say ..
What is so unrealistic about NBA Live? I'll admit that there are a few too many blocks, but that can be fixed by simply not overusing the block button. The way that the AI constantly tries to find new ways to beat you, and double teams is great. I haven't played NBA2k3 yet, and even if I do, I'm going to stick with Live cause I feel it is fun and realistic. Even if 2k3 is more realistic than Live, it does not mean that Live is an unrealistic NBA Jam type game. Why can't everybody accept that there are two great basketball games, and stop being so insecure by bashing the other game, in order to feel falsely satisfied with your purchase.Comment

Unrealistic? Its more than just blocks. You can dance around anyone using any player you want. You just use freestyle control, move it in a few random places and your by him, then you dunk. Then next time down, repeat.Comment

Re: I got both LIve and 2k3 on the same day.after days of playing I must say ..
It is a question of prefrence. If you feel that it is fun for shooting guards having three are four blocks is good then live is cool. It just needs a better balance. I think overall the argument isn't what game is the most fun because that is individual prefrence thing. I think main thing is if you want a game that best portrays the NBA and each team accurately then NBA2k3 does the better job. Lamond Murray should not play the same way as D Miles. Baron Davis should not play the point the same as Andre Miller. There is not enough reflection of their real life counterparts. Plus the little things like the changing of the Hair styles of players with two hair styles I think makes a difference. Fun isn't a bad thing in a video game, but for those who find sim games fun then there inlies the problem. Because who wants a baseball game where it is real easy to hit home runs and no variety in the players and how they play it would kinda suck not saying live is that bad but is a problem.Comment
