    My Issues with LIVE

    1. Why are all the supposed side camera angles really iso angles? Can I get a real side angle, not slanted.

    2. What's up with the blocks? The blocks seem very out of place. Almost like Volleyball Kills.

    3. Ball/Rim Physics? Is there any? Shots appear to be massive clanks or Chris Mullen type net movement(none).

    4. This maybe an oxymoron, but are there any subtle dunks? Every Dunk appears to be a DarrylDawkinsTearTheRimoff type dunk.

    5. The cutscenes. Why.

After playing this game for the last couple of hours, this game is on one extreme and 2K3 is on another. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but they are definitely different.

Yeah, and the bullet passes, and one handed snags are very overdone. This game deserves an A for effort, but it is not my style of sim based game.

      Re: My Issues with LIVE

Live definitely has some patching up to do for next year's version. With a little more additions to freestyle control, more accurate field goal percentages like the past Lives, less emphatic blocks, more realistic stealling animations, A WAY BETTER FRANCHISE MODE, and maybe a 2-on2 or 3-on-3 mode. I have to say, one of the things that surprised me the most about Live was the 100% graphics increase from 2002's version. But EA has done great this year, hopefully it can establish a new dynasty in the coming years

            Re: My Issues with LIVE

I said it before and I'll say it again:

AI Sliders should be tool for the most die-hard, hardcore gamer to make a few minor tweaks to suit his particular tastes, not a fall-back that the average user is forced to use to fix major gameplay issues. The tuning of a video game is the job of the developer, NOT the user.

Reading the 2K3 impressions thread I could not believe how many comments I read to the effect of "This (insert any number of complaints here) is not very good in 2K3 but the nice thing is there is a slider so you can fix it." I appreciate VC allowing the User to change aspects of gameplay to suit his own tastes, but it really seems as though they didn't spend enough quality time getting the gameplay to a point that would satisfy at least the majority of the general public, and therein lies the danger of having so many sliders.

If EA puts a bunch of AI sliders in next year's Live (and I still think they should) I hope it does not detract them from an end goal of tuning the gameplay at the default settings to the best of their abilities.

From a pick-up-and-play point of view Live wins hands-down this year, and I think that is partly due to the fact that they had to tune the default gameplay settings so well because they have no sliders to fall back on.

            That's my $0.02 anyways.

Live is decent imo, but 2K3 wins on realism. My issues with live:

              1. It plays way too fast. Did these guys get an massive jolt of caffiene before they hit the court.

              2. The speed boost is too exagerated. Eric Montross isn't going to blow by anybody. He has world class speed in Live with the speed boost.

              3. Passes have too much velocity. Curt Schilling couldn't put that much mustard on a pass.

              4. All blocks are of the "get out of my house" variety.

And those are just a few. While this game is fun to play, a sim it isn't. This is NBA Jam on steroids.

I agree with all of your beefs WaddupCuz, those are the main problems with Live but underneath there is a very fun multiplayer game to play. If you want a simulation look elsewhere, like to Sega Sports.

You've obviously not even played Live 2003 since this is blatantly wrong. I even took him into practice mode to double-check before posting this.

Montross moves like a chump, turbo-runs like a chump and even more comically dribbles the ball off his foot when doing freestyle moves.

Why would you post something about a game you obviously have never played?

                    Re: My Issues with LIVE

The "freestyle" control is nice! I think the game will be an excellent multi-player game for me. Unlike myself, some of my friends aren't into "sim" type basketball, so I think this will be a good plug-n-play type basketball game.

Another Issue(minor and funny): I can't remember if I was on the road or at home, but Shaq had some of the ugliest shoes I've ever seen in a sports game. They looked like Rainbow colored vans or sketchers. that had to be one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.

Wrong BlueDevilsFan. I own the freakin' thing. I used Eric "I Look Like Sinead O'Conner On Steroids" Montross to blow by Chris Webber a few times for thunder dunks. The game is indeed fun to play though. It's just nothing close to a sim. NBA 2K3 is the closest thing to the real thing warts and all.

BTW, what on earth is a Blue Devil fan doing living in Chapel Hill?

I keep feeling amazed that I have a different Live Ps2 game than some of you guys.

I can't do anything with Montross.

It's like the speed burst doesn't even work with him.

I'll give it a shot again but I think a whole game trying to go off with Montross seems like adequate testing.

Forget Montross, my problem which I have brought up on several occasions is the fact that ant better than average ball handler can break down the defense without much in the way of a defensive deterrant. Why shoot jumpers, or use screens, or pass to the open cutter when my best chance is to take someone like Jay Will and simply freestyle my way to the basket. Where is the balance? Where is the incentive to do other things than freestyle? And most impostantly, where is the gameplay that pushes me to use freestyle in a correct manner vs. and incorrect one? If it's simply a choice between using it with Montross or Jay Will, then I say it's not a gameplay choice at all which is a huge glaring weak point for me.
