Re: 1/13 - 1/25 Games Discussion Thread
I’ve been super critical of the pelicans since day 1 of them getting lucky with Zion. Everyone in the media was gushing about how amazing of a job they have done.
Which isn’t the case at all there is no logic to the moves they are making. They were so worried about getting a bunch of asset. They aren’t doing the obvious which was building the team around Zion. I don’t even think the pairing with Ingram is that great.
They are now stuck with Lonzo who was a major piece in the AD trade. They either trade him for something small or overpay him. Adams can’t shoot and they locked him for a extra 2 years. Bledsoe can’t shoot and you just drafted another PG this past draft. They traded back when they got the 4th pick and NAW and Hayes haven’t done anything while Deandre Hunter has been extremely good.

If Lonzo could create off the dribble or finish at his. He'd be a keeper. I try to think of other player types like him. He doesn't draw the defense in.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: 1/13 - 1/25 Games Discussion Thread
They have to choose between Lonzo and Eric. Lonzo just seems either caught in the heads lights or sleeping at the wheel. It might be because Van Gundy wants a slower pace on offense.
Yes I understand it's early. Your still trying to figure things out because there wasn't much of a camp.

With the lack of consistent outside shooting from both of them when you already lack spacing with Zion and Adams on the floor together, it’s no way in Hell Zo and Bled should be starting together or on the floor at the same time

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Hope the Jazz can make it to 10 straight, got the Knicks and Mavs back to back. Think we're off until Tuesday so I could see us coming out flat and laying an egg against the Knicks again though

I don’t think it’s quite fair to go there just yet though. They are rebuilding and they absolutely should be getting lots of assets. They are never going to know which guys are going to develop and which aren’t, they don’t know which fit well next to Zion and which don’t until they see it, and they don’t even know what type of player Zion is in today’s NBA until he develops some as well. To say they’ve been doing everything wrong up to this point I don’t believe is fair.
As of right now Ingram is better than Zion, they can’t run an offense through Zion and until that is the case (if ever) they need a player on the floor that they can. And the pairing between them doesn’t have to look great NOW, it just needs to work when they are at a point they are ready to compete. And if that never happens, Ingram can be traded, but at least at that point they’ll know what to expect from Zion and what the teams needs in a package from BI if they do move him. Right now there isn’t enough identity to know.
I think Adams was a good fit. I haven’t watched them much recently other than the other night enough to notice that Zion still can’t defend or rebound at a level comparable to his abilities, but they desperately needed a big man who could defend, rebound, pass, set screens.. their offense looked so much better the first few games of the season getting easy shots off of his screens. He doesn’t help spacing issues, but he does help a lot of their other problems and you shouldn’t really be relying on your center to fix your spacing anyways. Even in today’s NBA. He’s great at playing the top of the key setting screens, handoffs, etc. they can get him away from the basket when needed.
Bledsoe is not an amazing fit, but again they were one of if not the worst defensive teams in the league last year. They got back assets in that move and if Bledsoe does nothing else but help them build some sort of defensive culture then it’s an automatic win for them. Bledsoe and Lonzo neither one are great fits overall, perhaps they end up making a trade. Bledsoe’s contract is also large enough to help them possibly land a big asset back in return. He’s obviously not part of their long term plans anyways.
I don’t fault them for trading back either. You can’t predict how a rookie is going to end up, if that was the case we would never have any busts. Hunter has looked good for ATL, likely wasn’t going to for NO if he’s behind Ingram and Zion. They needed a big, he’s not been great aside from he’s an ok rim runner and shot blocker, but he still has time to develop. NAW is actually coming around, he was the best player on the floor the other night for them when I was watching them play the Clippers. Once JJ, Bledsoe, maybe Lonzo, are all gone that’s his backcourt and he’s getting a chance to learn from guys like Bledsoe who will play defense, JJ who is one of the best ever moving without the ball, it’s not a horrible situation for him to grow behind IMO.
I think you’d have more of a point if this was Zion year 4 and these issues were there, or even if Zion was looking like Tim Duncan ready to lead a team through the playoffs as a rookie/2nd year guy. But that’s not the case. Way too early IMO.

Re: 1/13 - 1/25 Games Discussion Thread
Your right they seem to be straddling the line of not a playoff team and not tanking which is the worst thing you can be. JJ should be traded at the deadline.
The Adams move made no sense I get he can defend, but he can’t space the floor at all. Didn't they also trade a 1st Round pick for him ? They also extended his contract for 17 million per year nobody is going to give you anything for him if you try and trade him.
Bledsoe is another bad fit which they didn’t care about him they just took him back because they got all those 1st round picks from the bucks. Now ginnias has signed his extension and they won’t be anything other then In the 20’s for a long time. The pick swaps also will be useless.
The draft pick / swap things is the same for the lakers it’s going to be In the 20’s and the swaps will never come into play. Even when Lebron leaves you will have AD and other people.
Another piece in the trade josh hart is a FA and someone likely pays him pretty good $ this summer
If Hayes doesn’t develop soon it’s going to be obvious they lost that trade big time. Hunter is playing quality defense while scoring 16 a game on like 50/40/87 shooting. Even if the extra 1st round pick they got NAW starts playing better how does he fit In with so many Gs.
The weight lost has effected his game so much. He do much more quicker. While I kind of agree Zion and BI seem to not work. I think Adams doesn't fit well either.
