Per Bobby Marks, list of payers who were bought out in the Feb-March buyout timeline from 2015-this year, and the team they signed to.

MIL - Novak, Muhammad, P Gasol, M Williams
    CLE - Perkins, Sanders, Bogut
    DAL - Amar’e, Lee, MKG
    HOU - Wright, Johnson, Carroll
    BKN- Blake, LMA
    IND - Lawson, Booker, Matthews
    LAL- Morris, Drummond
    PHIL- Bells, Ilyasova
    SAS - Martin, Dieng, Miller
    ATL - Humphries
    BOS - Monroe
    GSW - Calderon
    LAC - Jackson
    MEM - Tolliver
    MIA - Johnson
    OKC - Brewer
    TOR - Lin
    WAS - Hickson
    POR - Kanter - waived

Clearly we need to put a stop to this madness where superstars are just bailing and running to big markets every year for nothing.

That's easy, don't let them sign for the minimum. Make it X percentage of their previous contract value. That will stop snakes like BG and LMA forcing their way into creating a stacked team

I think literally every team in the league except the Knicks were at or above the cap come buyout season. Teams spend in the off-season, they don’t just have millions of leftover money sitting around hoping the buyout market has a decent player they can get at 10% of his max contract.

Other than teams with traded player exceptions like Boston.

Taking that angle, would it be any more fair if a team like Boston was able to get all of Blake, LMA, Drummond because they were the only team in the league with an exception large enough?

Yes because they got themselves into a situation where they could afford them. That's more fair than a team that's already a favorite to win the title getting them for free (essentially) and stacking the deck even higher

Man, let it go. The buy out market has been aiding teams for years with cheap, "disposable," veteran pieces that are low risk.

Why get made at the Nets the one time it is beneficial to them and not all the times it has "helped" Miami, Los Angeles (Lakers), San Antonio, Cleveland, Golden State, etc?

If Drummond, Blake & LaMarcus want to get paid and play for a contender then blame Cleveland, Detroit & San Antonio for buying them out....

I was thinking of other examples of guys signing to already stacked teams for cheap, and I was checking on the contracts that Gary Payton and Karl Malone signed with the Lakers in 2003. Payton got $5M a year, while Malone got $1.5M. That Malone deal honestly feels like a steal, because even at age 40 he was a machine. Have to wonder what would have happened if he didn't get injured that year.

Not a word about that Kyrie dunk last night? I thought that was Ja Morant for a second.

These late games I need a pre nap to finish them LMAO. OT too... I would of been a straight up mess. I watched the first quarter. I'll finish it in the morning.

I saw the Nuggets came back on the Spurs. I started watching that at half time. Spurs came out in the second half got a 10 lead. I might go back to that game too

Cima is a casual now(his words, not mine)and a Lebron stan as well so his logic will always be different(nothing wrong with this BTW)and in some cases hypocritical.

Most of the noise has been from the casuals who have the attention span of a Bird so of course they’re the loudest ones about this “issue”.

Maybe that “snake” Aldridge should’ve thought about the rest of the league first, put his own interests behind him and went to the Wizards or Celtics so it would’ve been “more fair” to the system.

You're asking teams to deliberately not make themselves as good as they can in the off-season with the hopes that the buyout market for that particular season has a player like Aldridge instead of the typical Tolliver type of guys. You have to realize how unrealistic that is.

Which wouldn't be a bad thing. Every other league builds their teams in the offseason and through trades. The buyout market is broken, there is no reason contending teams should be able to add valuable assets FOR FREE. They should have to give up something. Instead they can get a valuable piece while their old team pays them. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Yeah, this isn’t true at all.

Teams may build the core of their team in the offseason via the Draft/FA but they’re still signing guys over the course of the season. In the NFL’s case, it’s happening after Week 1 because you can sign a FA and their contract won’t be guaranteed in the event you decide to release them.
