It's crazy how the whole Britney Spears/Victor stuff going on is just another day in the drama filled world of the NBA.

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Think it’s 2026 draft isn’t it? But yeah they’re insane. If god forbid they continue progressing at a decent rate they might both end up being considered better prospects than Wemby lol.

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
If you read the rules it's even worst .
All teams will participate in the group stage, which will consist of six groups total -- three per conference -- and chosen by a random draw based on teams' winning percentage the previous season. Each team will play four games in its group, with the six group winners making the knockout stage, along with two wild cards who finished with the best winning percentage and not first in their groups.
Knockout-stage games will be single elimination through the final.
What’s wrong with any of that? If teams treat it like it matters rather than just another regular season game, this sounds like a fun idea to me?
At any rate it can’t get much worse than a regular season game at this point with how many teams just chill during the season now.

MJ said the same thing..If teams were able to play zone defenses, I never would've had the career I had.Last edited by ojandpizza; 07-07-2023, 06:30 PM.Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
You know, I've always kind of wondered if that was a direct quote or Sam Smith just paraphrasing the gist of what Jordan was supposedly getting at. Sometimes I see things get turned into direct quotes by a wonky website then other websites take it and turn it into new truth. The original paragraph provided no quotation:
Originally posted by Sam SmithBut there was one that might be bothersome, the zone defense. It was the topic du jour at last month's All-Star Game, and Jordan was making an impassioned plea before the competition committee that had gathered to consider rules changes to enliven the NBA game. Jordan spoke passionately. If teams were able to play zone defenses, he said, he never would have had the career he did.
Originally posted by Sam SmithAnd that was Jordan's argument: He believed that allowing any defense, or a zone, enables teams to gang up on the star. Gone will be the highlight-show moves and plays, the ESPN-ization of the game that others contend has been detrimental to sound play.
As for Jordan, we all saw that feller take two years off, return at age 38, and still put in work under the new rules. So I imagine he would have been quite fine no matter what.

Its funny, reading what they had to say about zone defense actually had the opposite effect on my opinion of it lol
It actually made me appreciate the rule change. Combine what they said with what I've watched growing up and have since rewatched, and I like the changes it's led to for the most part
The main thing I appreciate is it forcing a much better balance of star/team play. And by team, Im talking all the way to the coaches. I honestly can't say this is for certain, but I would think coaches today have to be much more creative in order to be successful. On both sides of the ball. On defense, obviously, because you have so many options/strategies now with the rule change. And then now for offense, you have to be able to counter those new defensive strategies.
So I love seeing the ball move around more, players more active away from the ball, defenses x-ing out on the perimeter, pre-switching and communicating to take away any advantage the offense has.
Give me that over ISO/post and stand/watch basketball we used to have

It probably won’t happen, but there’s a part of me that wonders if they try to take advantage of the fact that the NBA has max contracts and try to start their own league paying above the max to get guys to join.
Would definitely be more difficult to pull off than LIV but the max contracts existing gives it a non-zero chance IMO.

I’d still probably have it at zero percent even with them having the funds to throw at people.#RespectTheCultureComment
