It's crazy how the whole Britney Spears/Victor stuff going on is just another day in the drama filled world of the NBA.

Each team will play four games in its group, with the six group winners making the knockout stage, along with two wild cards who finished with the best winning percentage and not first in their groups.

Knockout-stage games will be single elimination through the final.

What’s wrong with any of that? If teams treat it like it matters rather than just another regular season game, this sounds like a fun idea to me?

At any rate it can’t get much worse than a regular season game at this point with how many teams just chill during the season now.

              MJ said the same thing..
If teams were able to play zone defenses, I never would've had the career I had.

You know, I've always kind of wondered if that was a direct quote or Sam Smith just paraphrasing the gist of what Jordan was supposedly getting at. Sometimes I see things get turned into direct quotes by a wonky website then other websites take it and turn it into new truth. The original paragraph provided no quotation:

It was the topic du jour at last month's All-Star Game, and Jordan was making an impassioned plea before the competition committee that had gathered to consider rules changes to enliven the NBA game. Jordan spoke passionately. If teams were able to play zone defenses, he said, he never would have had the career he did.
Then Smith went on to explain why Jordan was not in favor of allowing any and every kind of zone.

I always felt the vibe or concern at the front end of all those zone discussions in '98 was that "zone" was going to mean that the league was going to go full college basketball where you could just throw Dikembe Mutombo or Shaq in front of the rim and work from there. Even though the concept of defensive three-seconds was already out there as a possible inclusion, most still just heard "zone" and thought about their personal experiences with zone (i.e. permanently packed paint, etc.).

As for Jordan, we all saw that feller take two years off, return at age 38, and still put in work under the new rules. So I imagine he would have been quite fine no matter what.

                  Thanks for sharing

Its funny, reading what they had to say about zone defense actually had the opposite effect on my opinion of it lol

It actually made me appreciate the rule change. Combine what they said with what I've watched growing up and have since rewatched, and I like the changes it's led to for the most part

The main thing I appreciate is it forcing a much better balance of star/team play. And by team, Im talking all the way to the coaches. I honestly can't say this is for certain, but I would think coaches today have to be much more creative in order to be successful. On both sides of the ball. On defense, obviously, because you have so many options/strategies now with the rule change. And then now for offense, you have to be able to counter those new defensive strategies.

So I love seeing the ball move around more, players more active away from the ball, defenses x-ing out on the perimeter, pre-switching and communicating to take away any advantage the offense has.

Give me that over ISO/post and stand/watch basketball we used to have

I've been watching Peach Jam. It's really insane how far this stuff has grown. I'm sure everyone been getting alerts about Cooper Flag. He's only 16. So much pressure.

It probably won’t happen, but there’s a part of me that wonders if they try to take advantage of the fact that the NBA has max contracts and try to start their own league paying above the max to get guys to join.

Would definitely be more difficult to pull off than LIV but the max contracts existing gives it a non-zero chance IMO.

I’d still probably have it at zero percent even with them having the funds to throw at people.
