OJ all I am saying is that I look at the in-season tournament record for the Lakers/Pacers and compare that to their non tournament record and I wonder if its more than a coincidence. Yes it is too small of a sample size to draw any definitive conclusion from it. But it is enough to warrant a closer look over subsequent years.
(btw, you misunderstood the point I was making about gameplanning for Tyrese. That was nothing more than a easy to understand example of how "effort" isn't limited to "players giving it their all")
I'll summarize it like this -- I'm curious to see where the Pacers especially finish the season (I was curious anyway cause yall should know I'm a Tyrese fanboy). If they finish where I expect, firmly safe from the play-in and within shooting distance of home court in the 1st round, that will raise a question for subsequent years -- will teams that feel they have something to prove view the NBA Cup as the perfect avenue to do so. You're a team that wants to make a leap or a coach that wants to get his players to believe, what better way than make a strong showing in the NBA Cup? Its not about the top teams "folding." I look at the Grizz from a few years ago when most fans liked their chip on the shoulder approach and acting like they wanted all the smoke. They flamed out in the playoffs but if we had the tournament that year, they would be my favorites to win it hands down even knowing that ultimately they "weren't that guy(s)" come playoff time.
