Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Amazon I'm sure they could work out a deal for something else later on. If you don't go with TNT, that's it. Inside is done, TNT probably doesn't get back into NBA stuff for quite some time if ever again.
Who has the ASG rights? As boring as ASGs have become, my fave part of the weekend is always the Inside the NBA coverage leading up to it.Comment

They better take the TNT one.

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
Amazon is unquestionably the bigger/better partnership in terms of the future of business. I honestly wonder how much the NBA cares about Inside, or how valuable they think it is.
It's funny that we are thinking about this purely in the context of Inside The NBA, and not about the actual NBA games on TNT. I started watching the NBA on TNT and TBS in 1996, so I have some level of appreciation and nostalgia attached to the Turner+NBA partnership. But when it comes to the actual presentation of the games in real time does anyone care what network/service it's on? If Inside streamed live on YouTube with full highlights would it matter to anyone what channel the actual games were on? I'm assuming no.Comment

Yankees over Mets
Dodgers over Angels
Lakers over Clippers
Rangers over Islanders
And so on. Nothing wrong with being "the other team", you just have to win to make people not care about that fact.Comment

Inside the NBA is officially done after the upcoming season.
NBA announced the new tv deals and said WB didn't match the Amazon deal.

This isn't my area of legal expertise but I wonder if its a bit like RFA in sports where teams are able to match offers to retain their free agents. In this scenario the NBA is the RFA, TNT is Sacramento, and Amazon is Miami. And it seems like our RFA is saying sorry Minnesota you didn't match the offer because you can't give the same climate and facilities.
But the question is if in TNT's current deal that gives them the right to match are those things spelled out as parameters TNT would need to match?Comment

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
yeah this gonna be interesting, I'm no expert either, but if the deal was matched, you'd think the original company would retain the rights.
legal stuff is so above me, like does WBD take it to the courts to retain the rights or to obtain compensation, like if NBA has the ability to reject the deal, WBD must've matched on purpose for some legal reason

This is going to the courts.

Re: NBA Off Topic Thread
The NBA-Turner media deal, now at the center of a lawsuit, includes info about the league's jersey patch deals, TNT's ticket allotment and more.
I think this is inevitably going to result in arbitration and a settlement payout and maybe even a scaled down agreement that gives WBD something, maybe the all star game and one game a week in the second half of the season or something. I don't see the Amazon deal getting axed.Last edited by ggsimmonds; 07-27-2024, 06:13 PM.Comment

Random but I used to love this damn intro
Just the perfect combination of highlights
That C-Webb pass to Divac was my **** along with the K-Mart dunk and camera stare.
