Re: 2024 Paris Olympics Basketball Thread

I think the Olympics experience should benefit some players. I really commend Booker's willingness to accept his role and play the KCP/Danny Green role. Anthony Davis was great in the Gold Medal game playing a reduced role. Even though I don't think Embiid fit the Switch heavy Defense Kerr ran, he definitely had an impact and this should be an valuable experience. This was probably the first time since Kansas, where Embiid didn't have everything ran through him. He wasn't gifted for any of his foul baiting tactics, and playing alongside the best players who brought it all when they were needed. He definitely needs to set those same type of screens he was setting for Curry for Maxey and George. But, his rebounding was still trash. He needs to get stronger hands when rebounding

A crazy idea I saw someone joke about but makes me wonder....

With the 2028 games in LA, let's say LeBron is retired by then. Could he be eligible to be on the 3 on 3 basketball team? Similarly with anyone else who is retired by then. Imagine a 43 year old LeBron, 39 year old KD and 40 year old Steph coming out of retirement to play 3 on 3 basketball in LA and winning gold

3 on 3 basketball is a completely different game. I don't see it happening. Just okay 5 on 5 at that point

You need to earn enough points to qualify.

Means they would have to put in work to be able to play.

Players have to qualify or just the country (who can then select players after)?

Players have to participate in certain tournaments and such to earn points.

With 4 spots 2 players need to be in the top 10 of the rankings on their country and 2 others need to be in the top 50.

Fiba world series and fiba world tour give most points.

Besides this teams have to qualify as well with only 8 teams making the olympics.

Makes sense, to prevent precisely the sort of scenario we were talking about. Still, you could totally see LeBron trying to do this (not necessarily the other two) because he just seems that kind of guy

Meh the time he would need to invest in it compared to the compensation does not seem worth it.

A team might make up to 1 mill if they manage to win an event every weekend lol

Maybe if the BIG3 could earn points orso but it would require them to fall under FIBA i think.

I imagine those AND 1 guys would had a field day with this though lol

My favorite thing to come out of the Olympics is everyone chasing Gabby Williams and Dancing Bear to join the NBA and WNBA. It kind of puts Americans in this place of why don't we have team. But if you know. They were here and then had to go overseas.

Angela Reese tried to recruit Gabby. Gabby back to Chicago. But Gabby wasn't having it. As per Gabby "they did her dirty".

It's just really funny to see. Dancing Bear is signed long term to real Madrid.
