BTW, I realize adding 2 games means more money but what does that do for me and its not my obligation to sympathize with the NBA.

Is anyone else disgusted that the first round is 7 games now?
Im still accustomed to seeing a team get up 2-0 and thinking, "uh oh, someones in trouble", but now thanks to that arbitrary display of favoritism by Stern, for the Lakers, the intrigue of that first round is dead. Dont get me wrong, its not as if there are no compelling matchups but the first round now has a completely different dynamic to it when its 7 games--simply put, it sucks. Does anyone else hate the first round-seven game format and wish theyd go back to 5?

I don't like the 7 game format in the first round for one simple reason:
It makes upsets nearly impossible.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I prefer the 7-game format, because the favorites should win in the first round, and this makes it more likely. However, I'm disgusted that it takes 2-3 weeks to play a single round in the playoffs.Comment

I concur completely. Its not the length of the series that is the problem, it just takes far too long to play games.Comment

I loved the 5-game series. The prospect of an upset makes the whole series more exciting. Imagine if the NCAA used a best of seven series or even best of three...March Madness wouldn't exist. Even though I got burned by the 5-game series (Seattle-Denver), I wish they had never changed it.Comment

I'm desperatly trying not to comment on that Lakers statement . . .
But as far as the topic goes, I prefer a 7 game series, expecially now that the compititon is so close (at least in the West). Maybe in the East, where you have to go through certain match-ups that don't seem to be competitive, the longer series can be a drag, but out West, Denver/San Antonio, Mavs/Rockets, match-ups like these need 7 games.Comment

I totally agree. It just takes so damn long to finish the first round.Originally posted by DrDoom77I prefer the 7-game format, because the favorites should win in the first round, and this makes it more likely. The Scheduling is bad,but Stern wants to make sure that there's a good viewing audience for every game.If you're gonna have such long intervals between games at least bring it back to best of 5.If you're gonna leave the P/O's as a best of 7,then please, make the intervals only 1 day between games.Comment

Re: Is anyone else disgusted that the first round is 7 games now?
Sure there might be more upsets in best of 5 but as mentioned before there were some series last year that had 4 or 5 day breaks between games to play weekends so if it's gonna take the same amount of time to complete a series we might as well see best of 7 where we get a couple of more games. At least there's a game on every night unlike last year.
I don't think Stern likes the change either but money talks and the networks always get their way.Comment
