lmao how freaking stupid is isiah thomas now? looks like you can be frugal with contracts, trade all his players, acquire superstars, get a new coach, and "change the culture" and that will lead you to 18-21? hahahaha.. but seriously folks i can find 50 reasons to blame or defend d'antoni but i think in fairness to him this ISNT the roster he wanted, he had them playing well last year up until the trade (28-26) and that shouldnt be forgotten.. but at the same time i cant understand why he hasnt switched up his offense to exploit one of melo's real strengths, an by that i mean his post up game, melo is great in ISO but that isnt the only way he can score but it seems to be the only way he ever gets shots in this offense... ive seen people talking about the constant switching on defense an ya'll should know thats the staple of mike woodson the assistant coach, he did that in atlanta an he's doing it here and (statistically at least) there has been a very large improvement this year when compared with the past 2 years

A new coach is the only glimmer of hope that we have left to hang on to. It probably won't matter in the long run though, whoever we bring in next will deal with the same crap...

        1. One of the worst owners in sports
        2. Melo eventually going in the tank once the going gets tough
        3. The worst defensive basketball IQ I've ever seen in Amare plus his health

We're at a 9 out of 10 on the panic scale right now, if a new coach comes in and fails next year then we know this whole thing was a gigantic failure while we still have those guys on the books for two more years.

I want to see what this team will do with a new coach just like everyone else but deep down I pretty much know it's already hopeless. This plan was failure, Melo just won't fit in. I don't even think it's Melo and Amare co-existing, it's Melo and the entire team. I know that shouldn't be the case and you can make many good counter arguments but the Knicks have never been on a roll while Melo is playing. We had great stretches last year before the Melo trade. We had the great stretch this year while he was out. He have never looked like we're clicking on all cylinders or playing to our full potential when Carmelo is playing.

I give very little credit to Woodson for the defense. It's mostly chandler with him out the defense looks as bad as ever. And to a lesser degree the addition of shumpert and a bigger role for Jeffries has helped as well. The constant switching is just lazy.

Hard to put this on Dolan. Glen Grunwald has done a bang up job this year.

Everyone seems to be stuck on the Melo signing which we mortgaged the farm. But reality is...if we didn't get Melo...we probably wouldn't have gotten Chandler.

Melo can only be coached by someone he respects. The only one who comes to mind are Phil Jackson, Doc Rivers, and Pop. Strong personalities who have won before.

I cringed yesterday watching the Sixers game as Melo pulled up for a 3 on a 2-on-3 fast break with him and Fields. 2-on-3.

No one holds Melo accountable. No one calls him out.

The team is flawed mentally. It's the one area where I miss Billups.

The team has enough pieces to win. The execution comes down to coaching and accountability on the floor.

              This team lacks both.

BEB - it goes back to the big picture with Dolan overriding Walsh and making the Melo deal, then forcing Donnie out. Grunwald has done a good job since taking over though.

We'll never know how much Walsh really wanted Amare or Melo, but the reality is we wound up with two flawed stars - neither makes the players around them better and both are liabilities on the defensive end. Melo is basically a child mentally.

I will always support the Carmelo deal because it was the best option available, we had to do it. It's just turned out as bad as possible thus far.

Re: The 2012 New York Knicks: The Filler Year?

I'll support the Melo deal even though I worried that giving up all the talent for him wouldn't be a good thing, but I don't use that as an argument because let's be real: The Knicks weren't going to be much better with Gallo, Felton and Wilson Chandler (who probably would be in China regardless).

That team doesn't have Tyson Chandler, JR Smith and might not even have Shumpert depending on how many more wins the Knicks get last season because of chemistry.

But, that wasn't going to hold up. That team wasn't going to be much better than the team they have now. Carmelo Anthony is still a scoring machine and one of the best offensive players in the game. Every winning team needs a guy that can do what Melo does.

Like Simmons says, you always trade change for a dollar.

It's on D'Antoni. When players aren't performing, it's on the coach. We can blame Anthony for being lethargic on both ends of the court, but ultimately it comes down to who is coaching him. Accountability is a great word. If Anthony is breaking the offense, you gotta hold him accountable. D'Antoni just seems clueless. He's clueless when he speaks to reporters and clueless on the basketball court.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Let me throw this out there - is the blame on D'Antoni because he is a horrible coach or is the blame on him for not holding the stars accountable?

Because he sat Melo and Stat in the 4th yesterday, something he should have considered LAST WEEK.

Yeah? I stopped watching. I'm trying to live a longer life and the Knicks stress me out more than anything.

I can deal with misses. I can't deal with lack of heart.

because I am a glutton, i watched the game on a beautiful sunday.
when it comes to D'antoni, anything goes.
the past year i blamed him because he was a horrible coach, now I add in that he doesn't hold Melo and STAT accountable.

                        THOUGHTS:

What is the lineup tonight? can't wait to see.
hes got nothing to lose, bench someone.

As far as Lin goes, enough with the TO's. next time he has one of his 2 minute runs where he looks like a Walker/Douglas combo, throwing passes anywhere he feels, bench him immediately.

Pringles should basically say, I brought u into this world, i'll take you out.

                        Amare' looks DEFEATED.
in watching his PG interview, it was obvious.
He can no longer stand what Melo is bringing to the team.
The Melo effect is sucking the will out of STAT right before our eyes.
Though he needs to step up and stop looking like a role player out there.

Melo had 22 and 9 and it couldn't have meant less.
We proved we dont need his 22 & 9. those are numbers. we win or lose with those numbers
we need him to be part of this team in some way that he isn't right now.

How bout that body language on the bench at the end of the game?
                        STAT leaning back arms crossed.
melo leaning forward hands on chin.
both wearing the Marbury Winter 07' clothing line.
                        fantastic

and I am sick of hearing these guys say we gotta come out next time and play hard.
                        then they don't
                        makes no sense.

Shumpert was rambling in his interview. I am still trying to decipher what he was talking about.
It's like they approached him right after he got off a roller coaster.

boy JJ is needed for some toughness.

                        bottom line: where the fire?

                        tonight should be really fun.
and by fun i mean torturous.

I completely agree wit all of this.

Also, Dolan is the Jerry Jones of B-ball.

Not holding the stars accountable. I keep listening to the post games waiting for him to put Melo and Amar'e on blast, but it just never happens.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think they'd be winning any championships, but I think we'd have a record better than .500.
