For people who would rather Felton over Lin, speaking strictly about their abilities as players, not taking into account money or anything else....

Do you think we can win a championship with Felton starting at PG? If not, why not take the younger guy with potential to grow?

It's never a decision made in a vacuum.

Not really. But I feel he gives us a better chance to win than Lin right now.

The younger guy with potential to grow has not shown that he has the ability to lead the team as it is composed to wins. Could he develop that? I'm sure he could.

But why put him out there hoping he can get the ball past halfcourt under pressure?

Why put him out there when every PG in the league is gunning for his head and will probably have career nights against him? Didn't Rondo have some ridiculous triple double stat line against him last year? Deron was going for 50 if he didn't get in foul trouble. Calderon lit him up in a game that we won only because Shump was able to switch on him and shut him down.

All that being said...I wanted Lin back before the contract issues.

But when things changed...my opinion changed. I didn't like seeing Felton go because he played so well. Consistently well. He wasn't scared of an alpha-male like Amare and he won't be scared of Melo.

He has a lot to prove. He going to want to show:
        1) that he's better than Lin
        2) the Knicks made a mistake trading him away
        3) his stints with DEN and POR were not representative of his actual skills

Lin...IMO...was coming back to camp with a swollen head. With ESPY in hand and the thoughts that the organization bent over backwards for him by matching a bad deal would've had him gassed up.

I think he would come into camp thinking that he's better than he actually is. I'm not sure if he wants to win as bad as Felton...a guy who is a veteran. Lin has alot going on outside of basketball. I'm not sure "championship" is first on his mind.

I'm aware of that. But people have said that strictly basketball wise they would prefer Felton over Lin and I'm asking why.

I don't think we can win a title regardless with this group (or if we kept Lin), but I guess the front office looks at Miami and LA teams of the recent past that didn't have great PG's and let their wing guys be the playmakers. The obvious problem is that Melo is not at the level of Bron, Wade and Kobe.

Felton is a solid defender, Kidd is still a good defender though more on SG's and small SF's. Shumpert is obviously going to develop into a great defender. We've actually got the chance to be a much better defensive team than the rest of the league realizes. Chandler/Camby/Thomas is a very nice defensive front court with depth, despite their age. Amare is the only disaster (does Novak really count? No one expects him to play D), Melo's D wasn't nearly as bad last season as people make it out to be. It's just the cliched thing to say about Melo after all these years.

As for Lin, it'll be amusing with him in Houston and absolutely no talent around him. Defenses will be focusing on him even more. It'll be interesting to see how he handles that.

Part of me (an extremely small part of me because he brought this on himself when he signed the offer sheet) is actually going to feel bad for him.

There are going to be times when he's going to look like a chump on the court and he'll have nowhere to turn. No veteran leader down in HOU besides Toney Douglas to help him along when things get bad.

You're going to have some of the worst PGs in the league trying to make an example out of him night after night.

I think it'll all make him a better PG down the road. But it's gonna be ugly.

He can thank the agents, advisors and leeches around him for that.

Lin is more of a scoring PG. Felton is more of a true PG. The Knicks, in their current state, need the second more. I have no doubt that Lin would beat Felton in a pick up game, but I just don't see Lin working with this team. And that's not even getting into all the contract mumbo jumbo.

I guess it's still all about the money after all. He's set for life now even if he gets embarrassed on the regular for the next few years and never gets a decent contract after that. Good for him on that front, you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm not mad.

I'll miss Lin, but I don't blame the Knicks for not matching. I like what the FO has done lately by signing solid players to reasonable deals. Of course there's not much youth on the roster, but that's a function of all of the draft picks we've given up over the years. I hope this is a sign of a better things to come in the long run.

I'm agree with the fact that he needs to do what he needs to do. There is a good chance this will be the best contract that he ver gets. I would have loved for Lin to stay but time to move on. Organizations do all kinds of things to players so when players get a chance to get over, I'm good with that.

Interesting article about the financial impact of Lin's departure.

At the beginning of 2012, when the phenomenon of Jeremy Lin known to many as “Linsanity” hit New York City seemingly out of nowhere, it took the stock price of Madison Square Garden Ent…

Lost in all of this hoopla, is there anyone Melo actually gets along with? He didn't like Antoni, doesn't like Amare, didn't like playing with Lin.

Since when does he not like Lin or Amare?

Melo catches a lot of flack because he speaks out candidly but he's not the most the best orator around.

He says alot of things that I don't think he means bad. Alot of times it's the way it comes out of his mouth. He's always retracting a statement (see 'ridiculous' contract)

The way he felt about D'Antoni was written all over his face though.

He seriously needs a lesson in PR. Look at the other guys in the league... and look at Melo. When you're grouping him with JR Smith, it should tell you something...

I think he did the smartest thing when the Nuggets-Knicks drama was going - stay shut. He certainly doesn't enjoy doing that anymore...
