I'd LIKE to give a guy like Sean Williams a chance. Big, athletic, blocks shots. The only way I see us finding a serviceable center is taking a risk on one, much like we did with Shawne Williams.
If the Knicks are able to bring back Jerome Jordan, we'll actually have depth at Center.

Not saying those guys are any good. But collectively, they can board, defend and keep Amare at PF.

DeAndre Jordan will get at least $8M. That says Samuel Dalembert will get around $9-$10M. Tyson Chandler's demanding probably $17M+.

Those are all average Centers. Why tie yourselves up with that?

Around $19M in cap space in 2012 will give us options even if we miss out on all elite players. Having 2 All-Stars and that amount of money is a good thing.

I agree completely. I, for one, am actually sort of happy we're in our current cap situation. I know we're not going to try to overpay for one of those guys (even if the main reason is to maintain flexibility for CP3), and God knows we're the franchise with a history of overpaying average players like them.

        Yes!!

@KBergCBS: Can confirm @WojYahooNBA detail that one scenario in Chandler deal has Billups being traded. Amnesty also a possibiity.

          Nope, don't trade Billups.

          Starting 5
          -Billups
          -Fields or Hill
          -'Melo
          -Amare
          -Tyson

          Bench
          -Toney
          -Hill or Fields
          -Iman
          -Jeffries
-Not sure of the other occasional players (Walker, Williams, Turiaf)

I think that team can make SOME noise, barring injuries, like Billups.

Billups was solid, losing him deflated our team. He made the transition easy for the team on offense, at least.

^Pretty sure they have to trade or amnesty Billups to have room for Chandler.

Yeah, Billups gotta go for cap space. I'm for it.

This is what we've wanted. A young big man that will play defense.

I DO NOT like the idea proposed by Marc Stein to ship Amare to New Orleans for Chris Paul. Just not seeing how Paul works in an offense with Anthony.

                    @ CMH

                    Chandler isn't exactly young.

That being said a 4-year deal is perfect. We pretty much have a 4-year window where we have Melo/Amare in their primes. Chandler fits into that nicely both in his age and contract length. If we don't win a chip in the Amare/Melo era then so be it but at least we should be in a good position to rebuild around 2017.

He's only 29. I consider that young. He was born the same year I was born. Don't tell me I'm old!!

Potential loop-hole that I believe was mentioned in the "player movement" thread.

A new "renegotiation and extension" provision allows an existing contract to be renegotiated so the player is paid a smaller amount over a longer period, but the player's salary cannot decrease by more than 40 percent. Renegotiations previously could only increase a player's salary.
People think Amare/Melo will renegotiate their deals to take less annually and that we'll have enough room for Chandler and CP3.

Chandler to the Knicks would be huge! Haven't read all the details (Billups amnesty, etc), but I'm really excited about this. Not trying to hear dealing Amare tho. Need to read up and see if we can still land an impact player in 2012.

Looks like we know why we got so aggressive with Chandler, the FO knew CP3 was heading to LA.

I might be in the minority, but IMO...

TD23, Melo, STAT, and Chandler > CP3, Melo, and Chandler

I really think the front court of Melo, STAT, and Chandler are going to be a force in the East.

The CP3 scenario would probably be more fun to watch, but not necessarily a better basketball move.
