Re: The 2012 New York Knicks: The Filler Year?

Ecstatic we've finally signed a legitimate Center, have a couple of concerns (about the rest of the team, not Chandler).

The rest of the team can't take this as "we're a good defensive team now because we have a good center". If we're just going to gamble in the passing lanes and continue to play one on one defense with lazy rotations because we have a stopper down low we're going to be worse off than we should be (albeit still better than last year) and we're also going to put more work on Amar'e than we should which will lead to him being in early foul trouble. If we avoid that (and injuries) we'll be a good basketball team, I'm hoping Chandler brings with him a mentality towards defense that the rest of the team feeds off of.

Edit: Also VERY VERY glad we're bringing over Jerome Jordan now (assuming we complete the move), Tyson Chandler is the perfect player to teach Jordan how to play in the NBA and he could wind up being instrumental.

Mike Bibby is officially a Knick

Knicks announce signings of Bibby, Shumpert, Harrellson, Jared and are practicing.

        Exactly what I was thinking.

Perimeter defense is still an issue with the Knicks.

How do we guard players like Durant, Paul Pierce, etc. Jared Jeffries is our best perimeter defender.

But I'm glad we have Mike Woodson. He's in there teaching defense already.

Also hope that we can bring back Shawne Williams. I'd rather have him than Barrera because he has size and that corner 3 is money. I know the Nets are trying to drive up his price.

Also hope that we can get Jerome Jordan. I've read he's having issues with his buyout.

We're working on a sign-n-trade for Jamal Crawford. Wowzers.

Melo hyperextends knee but should be okay. Can't be having any ulcers before the season even starts.

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony hyperextended his left knee during practice Monday and is listed as day to day, the team said.
New York Giants (8 NFL Championships-4 Superbowls )
New York Yankees (26 World Series Titles)
New York Knicks (2 NBA Championships)
                Michigan Wolverines (11 National Championships)
New York Rangers (4 Stanley Cups)

So st starting lineup on 12/25 will look like:

                    Bibby
                    Fields
                    Melo
                    Stat
                    Chandler

with Jordan, Jeffries, and TD/Shump getting time as well. Not bad.

                      Douglas may be starting.

And FWIW...I want no parts of Baron Davis.

                        Yeah, eff Baron Davis.

Mike Bibby will not be starting according to Alan Hahn, sounds like he'll have a minimal role which I expected. I honestly don't think he'll make it through the entire season on our roster.

Shumpert sounds aggressive and athletic but raw, I'm not expecting much out of him this year especially given Pringles track record with rookies. I'm wouldn't be surprised if Shumpert barely sniffs the floor before MLK Day.

So with Bibby being ancient and Shumpert probably not in the rotation we're going to need a guard to back up TD...so I'm guessing we'll pick up Baron if we can. Ugh.

Crawford not coming. Let's hope Shawne Williams signs today. Reports are he'll make his decision today

Bibby is gonna play 20-25 minutes a night.

That gives Douglas an opportunity to play 25-30 which I'm fine with.

Whenever neither are on the floor, Melo will definitely be bringing the ball up.

I honestly don't see the need for another point guard. They need spot shooters now and defensive guys.

Not signing Crawford or Williams hurts. I know Crawford is a shooter, but he would have been great in a 6th man type role. His problem before in New York was him being the go-to-guy. He wouldn't be that and D'Antoni would limit his minutes with both STAT and Melo to combat bombadeer status.

I do agree that Williams would have been the better fit. Now what?

Can't believe Shawne Williams. It's like the Nets are taking our scraps just to piss us off. They told him he's starting..LOL.
Whatever. Heard the Knicks are looking at Maurice Evans or Michael Reed. We need guys who can space the floor.
We signed Jerome Jordan for 2 years so I'm estactic about that.
