Official Los Angeles Lakers Thread
So since there was no thread in this section for the Lakers I'd thought I start one. I will be stating my personal opinion to begin the thread. You do not have to agree with I i just thought it would be nice to have a thread where everything related to the Lakers can be discussed. that being said with the latest exit from the playoffs it's clear that the Lakers have multiple holes which need to be fixed. I don't think that this is one of these situations where they can add a piece or two and call it a day. There are serious problems with the Team right now. No outside shooting, soft/lazy big men, no bench and a clown for a coach. Bynum needs to be shipped out because the last thing you need is a lazy big man who picks and chooses which games he wants to play. Who is his replacement? Dwight Howard would be it idealistically but who knows if that could come to fruition. As for the coaching situation, I believe a very nice fit would be Jeff Van Gundy who has been around the game for quite some time and knows what hes doing. If the Lakers want someone more familiar with the organization Brian Shaw would be a solid candidate.

Re: Official Los Angeles Lakers Thread
How is he a disgrace? He just had his season ended and Sager was looking for a news story asking him that question then. Any athlete isn't thinking clearly after having their season ended.
He has does some immature things in the past but this isn't one of them."This is for all of my peoples who understand and truly recognize. Some won't get it and for that i won't apologize"- Talib KweliComment

Re: Official Los Angeles Lakers Thread
As far as rebuilding goes, Bynum definitely needs to go. I know it's been talked about numerous times, but he has shown his true colours in regards to his commitment to the Lakers - or any team for that matter.
The dream for LA would be to get Howard for Bynum (and other players, etc, etc...). But in my opinion, if it happens it may happen a bit too late. I feel he needs to be part of the team from the opening of their season for his pairing with Kobe to really work. Also, Howard would be going from team star-player to a support player for Kobe. This may have a negative affect on their trade if Howard feels his importance is being downgraded.
The other problem is, who would want Bynum after this years playoffs? What about Gasol? World Peace? I hope they unload these three for decent returns....we held several meetings to discuss the future of the franchise. After going through those meetings, it became very clear that the vision I had for the game was different from where the leadership wanted to take it. I parted ways with EA shortly after...Comment

Re: Official Los Angeles Lakers Thread
David Stern ended the Lakers season. I'm not a Laker fan by any stretch of the imagination, but they got hosed. I don't think the nucleus of the team can be re-tooled; they are so far from contending, they will almost certainly need a serious re-structuring of the team. And then there's the problem of not having a PG....Comment

Rebuilding the Lakers in 1 Offseason
approx what i would attempt to pull off
Very 1st move, trade Andrew Bynum
-- i could go on and on about why i believe Andrew needs to go but that could get alil long, but if need be i could provide those reasons 4 anyone who needs to be shown the light. but until then id sum it up with the following phrase
Its not just about marrying a smoking hot woman, its about marrying the "right" smoking hot woman...
Andrew Is Not a Face of the Franchise Player...
AB is not a leader of men and he's got 2 much quit in his heart, he's terrible 2 crisis.
everyone made a big deal when Andrew said close out games were easy, most thought he was talking about the Nuggets, but he was really giving you a glimpse into his heart and mental fortitude.
Proposed Trade: Andrew Bynum and Ramone Sessions for D.Will and Brooke Lopez
----------------
Next move, trade Pau Gasol for Andre Iguodala and whoever to make the numbers work
----------
Starting 5
PG: D.Will
SG: K.Bryant
SF: A.Iggy
PF: J.Hill
C: B.Lopez
2nd Unit
S.Blake - pg
R.Artest - sf/pf
draft picks or picks
defensive/3pt SG ala Raja Bell
stretch sf/pf ala S.Novak
backup athletic C/PF
Benchwarmers
J.McRoberts - pf/c
D.Ebanks - sf
A.Goudelock - pg
C.Eyenga - sf/sg
in my opinion this team could win the west next yr. and heres why:
at this point in his career, im taking the ball out of Kobe's hands, thus releasing him at his age of the burden of having to always create for himself and others. he is now moreso the finisher or plays. next a rotation of kobe, Iggy, and Artest could drop Kobe's mins down to around 32-34mins/g. Iggy at 34-36mins/g and Artest at 26-28mins/g
B.Lopez can score on the block so we still have that but we need to pair him with an athletic rebounding PF because he doesnt rebound so well for a center imo.
3 backup shooters on the bench and Ron and Iggy sharing the wing defensive duties.
--this team is completely realistic and doable in 1 offseason and the draft picks or FAs shouldnt be 2 hard to find either.

I don't think Philly takes Gasol, not for Iguodala anyway. I don't see them trading their best player for an aging, more expensive Gasol unless yall figure out a way to sweeten the pot a little bit.[NYK|DAL|VT]

i know u mean well but that squad is not winning the west. we would get killed on the boards and still not put up enough points. get Lopez outta here lol. plus i highly doubt we would get rid of both pau and bynum. 1 will stay, 1 will go.
first off, Bynum is going anywhere unless its a trade for dwight. yeah he still immature but he is still arguably the 2nd or 3rd best center in the league. he came into this season focused and ready and it shows. he stayed healthy and went to his first All-Star game due to Brown making him our #1 post presence. he still has to work on his consistency, and passing out of double teams though.
even though he has been in the league for 7 years, he is still only 24. of course he has more growing up to do. guess what? at age 25, even after 3 rings and 8 years in the league, so did Kobe. ask Phil Jackson.
pau is most likely to go seeing as though he would have been gone already if it wasnt for Stern. on top of that, for the past 2 years in the playoffs Pau has been terrible. i love pau, but i think its time for him to go.
now as for trades. my first option would be to try and get D-Will for Pau in a sign and trade. now if we could somehow get Humphries in that deal as well, i think that would be great. he would be a good fit next to Bynum and we would still be strong on the boards.
now if that doesnt work out i think were looking at Pau for possibly Josh Smith or Igoudala. personally i would prefer Josh but i think that may be a long shot. I would be happy with A.I. though.
another major concern is the bench. we have to get some guys that can come in and produce. our bench was terrible this year.Last edited by Rawdeal28; 05-31-2012, 08:04 AM."on hoping there is a PSN flash sale before Valentine's Day"

Re: Official Los Angeles Lakers Thread
no offense but the above way of thinking about Bynum is why the Lakers imho are headed for a Dark Age once Kobe leaves ala the Celtics....you keep believing in Bynum tho. the great tattle-tell will eventual reveal its secrets on that topic.
far as Iggy, i just think they need a big and Gasol or maybe Bosh are the best bigs they could prolly get.
im even willing to keep Gasol, move him back under the basket and just let his contract run out. I personally dont think the Lakers will re-up Kobe unless Kobe takes a major salary cut when his contract expires. so in this scenario, i would be ok keeping Kobe and Gasol 2gether and then starting completely over from ground zero.
but noway nohow if i was running the Lakers would i pay Bynum 80-100mil in the next few yrs. and since im not willing to do that, mite as well ship him out now while his contract is at an all-time high.Last edited by TajDeni; 05-31-2012, 01:41 PM.Through Holy Union God Lives Inside For Everyone

Re: Official Los Angeles Lakers Thread
1. Trade Andrew Bynum and Ramon Sessions for Deron Williams and Brook Lopez
2. Trade Pau Gasol for Andre Iguodala and Nikola Vucevic
3. Three way trade between L.A, Portland and Minnesota - Blake goes to Portland, Jamal Crawford goes to Minnesota, Michael Beasley goes to L.A
4. Amnesty Metta World Peace
5. Resign Jordan Hill, Andrew Goudelock and Devin Ebanks
6. Sign Jason Terry
7. Sign Lamar Odom
Possible roster for next season:
Williams/Goudelock
Bryant/Terry
Iguodala/Beasley/Ebanks
Hill/Odom/McRoberts
Lopez/Vucevic
This isn't crazy over-the-top like some of the trades and signings some people are proposing. It's funny, I've seen people (not only on Operation Sports) say that the Lakers should sign everybody in the free agent pool. If there was enough money I think they should also sign Kirk Hinrich or Goran Dragic, two cheap but good point guards.Last edited by KSOR24; 06-07-2012, 07:28 PM.GT: assassinK24Comment

Re: Official Los Angeles Lakers Thread
The deal would have Nash, the MVP in 2005 and 06, teaming up with the 2008 MVP Kobe Bryant and immediately turn the Lakers into title contenders.
Steve Nash to the Lakers giving them a legitimate point guard. Want thoughts on this move. Do you like it? Does it make them immediate title contenders? What happens to sessions?
