Re: The 2021 New York Knicks: Leon's Friends & Co.

I like Haliburton and he was higher on my list than Obi, however, he's absolutely benefiting from fit and opportunity which he wouldn't have gotten here.

He's not playing the lead guard position. On JJ Redick's podcast, he said he actually believes this is what's best for him right now. He's also not competing for minutes with vets. Bogdonavic's departure has a lot to do with his success. If he was here he'd be in the same situation as our rooks, fighting for minutes with vets and young guys who are in prove-it years.

And of course, we wouldn't have drafted Quickley either.

I noticed Thibs kept IQ in when he brought the rest of the starters back in in the second quarter, I can't help but feel like Elf's time is running out. I can understand not wanting IQ's first starts to be against Steph, Fox, and Lillard. Hopefully he'll get the nod after this road trip is up.

He is in a better situation I suppose--which in itself says a lot about the Knicks but that's a separate topic--but we also don't know which dominoes fall if we draft him. We may not have brought back Payton. It's sad that we wouldn't have drafted Quickley if we took Haliburton as they are very different guards, but it's likely the truth. Also, his situation in SAC and playing off-the-ball has little impact on his defensive abilities, which is a huge reason I liked him as a prospect. He's just a smart, well-rounded player who can fit in anywhere.

Anyway, I don't want this to be a Haliburton thread all season. I won't bring it up again and we can worry about normal Knicks woes for the rest of the season.

So you aren't entertaining it even though he's the frontrunner for ROY and has an immensely positive impact on both ends of the floor? Compared to our 23-year-old rookie who's struggling on offense and gives us nothing defensively? For all of your knocks on Haliburton, Obi's ceiling screams role player.

I've never done pined over a missed pick FTR. I've never cared that we passed on Donovan Mitchell. Never cared about Michael Porter Jr. This situation is too painful. The irony of all of it is that Haliburton is a perfect fit next to Quickley.

Because I wasn’t the one constantly talking about Haliburton. Why can’t we just be satisfied with our picks until they prove us wrong and not 15 games into a season?

Haliburton is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing as an older player who already has his chops. Went into a situation where he doesn’t have to be a lead guard, doesn’t have to start, can play out of position, gets all the minutes in the world and his team stinks. Hasn’t faced an injury either.

Obi’s ceiling? LOL. You can’t be serious.

I called Brandon Ingram “trash” after a preseason game in his Second year. Let’s pump the breaks.

Knicks fans spend too much time envying everyone else’s players instead of showing love to our own. I get it because we’ve been in the dumps for so long but if we’re not talking about what Quickley is doing right now then we’re doing this wrong.

There's a rumor that we're interested in D-Rose. Please include Payton in any deal!

This may be the end of Frank's and/or DSJ's time in NY.

This has to be a ploy...literally the only thing that could make me root for Payton is being threatened with the return of D Rose fans.

Pretty surreal seeing the Clips put Kawhi on IQ down the stretch. What a massive show of respect.

RJ has been looking really good for it to be his second year, crazy strides in free throws in the offseason are paying off big.
I was watching a reel of all the passes Cade has made that his teammates have failed to finish the other day. Here we are at the 8th seed smh, 22 is back at it.

At least IQ got significantly more burn last night than Elf. 30 to 17.

I thought IQ was looking to pass far more last night once he got into the paint. Thought that was curious since he's been launching his floater all season with no remorse. Wonder if the staff asked him to look to distribute more.

Also interesting that Knox is essentially out of the rotation now.

Still has no logic to me him getting more minutes but not starting.

So the entire offense starts the game out of sync with no rhythm and we find ourselves in a hole for the first half of games?

Sounds like Thibs just likes to get Quickley going against the other team's second unit, then carry that confidence throughout the rest of the game. Considering he's still a rook, I think that's fine but he should be getting more PT than Elf which has been happening over the past week or two.

Honestly, I just want Elf out of the rotation and don't think he's much better than Frank or DSJ. Frank at least looks like he'd hit some of those wide open 3s that Elf airballs.

Today was another example...35 minutes for Elf compared to 12 for IQ. And IQ played well in his short time: 12/2/3. Frustrating. Some of these old school coaches overthink the hell out of things.

I'm pretty sure it was about match ups, not that Elf is a lock-down defender. IQ had a couple rookie moments too.

Elf actually played a good game, so I'm not too upset with it. I just hope this isn't a standard going forward.

I'd like to see Obi get more minutes at the 5 though, there's no reason he shouldn't be able to handle some of these match-ups against smaller teams with 4s or 5s that aren't real offensive threats.
