Hatton may move down to 140 again.

The Ricky Hatton camp has announced that Hatton will be fighting in the U.S. on December 9, but that "The Hitman" may give up his WBA welterweight crown and return to light welterweight where he previously held the WBA and IBF titles. Hatton has been mandated to face #1 Oktay Urkal and that fight is headed toward a purse bid. "We have a number of options for his next opponent which will be finalized in the next few weeks," Hatton's father Ray Hatton told the BBC.
I knew Hatton would do this.

      Baldomir to get 'big' check!

WBC welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir, fresh off his electric ninth-round TKO over Arturo Gatti Saturday in Atlantic City, N.J., will appear at Sycuan Resort and Casino Tuesday at noon to receive an oversized $1 million check to commemorate his first title defense and largest payday of his career. Promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions, Baldomir, who defeated Zab Judah in January, vaulted himself into serious consideration for "Fighter of the Year" honors in 2006 by defeating two of boxing's biggest names.
      Congrats to Baldomir.....

Corrales gets trilogy request, but with Casamayor

Lightweight champion Diego "Chico" Corrales will get his trilogy. It just won't be with Jose Luis Castillo.

Instead, Corrales will defend his 135-pound crown against former junior lightweight titlist Joel Casamayor in a rubber match Oct. 7 on Showtime during the network's free preview weekend, Corrales promoter Gary Shaw told ESPN.com on Saturday.

"It's done. It's made," Shaw said. "I have Casamayor's signed contract back and Diego will sign his Tuesday because he is out of town, but the fight is done. Now they can settle their score."

Casamayor (33-3-1, 21 KOs) stopped Corrales (40-3, 33 KOs) in their first action-packed fight Oct. 4, 2003. In the non-title bout, Casamayor went down once and Corrales was knocked down twice before the fight was stopped due to heavy bleeding from cuts to Corrales' mouth and lip.

In the immediate rematch, Corrales won a vacant junior lightweight belt on a split decision March 6, 2004. Although Corrales was knocked down in the 10th round, most viewed him as the clear winner.

Corrales was supposed to face Castillo in a rubber match in June, but the fight was canceled the day before because Castillo failed to make the 135-pound lightweight limit for the second consecutive bout with Corrales.

That left Shaw to find Corrales the biggest fight he could make, and Casamayor, a 1992 Olympic gold medalist for Cuba before defecting shortly before the 1996 Games, fit the bill.

On July 7, Casamayor scored a ninth-round TKO of Lamont Pearson on ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights," and following the bout, Casamayor, promoter Luis DeCubas and Corrales, who was the "FNF" studio guest, got into a heated exchange during a joint interview.

Casamayor demanded a rubber match with Corrales, who responded that Casamayor had shown little against Pearson and didn't deserve one.

But things quickly changed, Shaw said.

"At the time of that interview earlier this month, there was no discussion about this fight," Shaw said. "But 'Chico' will fight anybody, to his credit. We looked at opponents who were available and what we could make and what we couldn't. This fight was one I knew we could make. I thought it was a good rubber match, and these guys don't like each other, so it makes for a good fight and good theater. So Diego said, 'Make the fight,' and I did."

Shaw said he hopes to match former super middleweight titlist Jeff Lacy (21-1, 17 KOs) against Allan Green (21-0, 15 KOs) on the undercard. Green knocked out Season 1 "Contender" participant Anthony Bonsante in the fifth round on this week's "Friday Night Fights."

Lacy hasn't fought since March, when he lost his 168-pound belt to Joe Calzaghe in a lopsided unification fight.

Shaw said he and Green promoter Tony Holden have had fruitful discussions and that the fight can be made if Lacy agrees to it.

The fight with Green came about after negotiations for a Lacy fight against former light heavyweight champ Antonio Tarver fell apart this week over Tarver's demands.

"Tarver-Lacy is dead," Shaw said. "It was obvious by his financial demands that Tarver didn't want the fight."

Shaw hasn't yet secured a venue for Corrales-Casamayor III, but he hopes to place it in Las Vegas. Wherever it lands, it will face stiff competition on television from HBO, which will go head-to-head with Showtime when 7-foot, 320-pound Nicolay Valuev of Russia defends his heavyweight belt against Monte Barrett from New York's Madison Square Garden.

Shaw said he isn't worried about the competition.

"I think the Valuev fight is almost a freak show, and I think ours is a real fight," Shaw said. "I'm not really concerned. If I can pull Jeff and Allan Green off to go with Corrales-Casamayor, I think it's a much better show. But the fans will decide which one they think is the real show."
I would much rather see him take on Juan Diaz or Zahir Raheem.

          Green-Lacy talks breakdown!

After several days of negotiations between promoters Tony Holden and Gary Shaw, Jeff Lacy rejected Allan Green as his comeback opponent for October 7th. "Gary Shaw and I did everything possible to make this fight happen, we were getting it finalized, then Lacy decided he didn't want to fight Allan" said a disappointed Tony Holden. Four days ago Allan Green demolished former Contender star Anthony Bonsante and called out Jeff Lacy in an interview with ESPN. "To be honest, I expected it" said Allan Green. "Jeff Lacy had been protected his whole career until he fought Calzaghe. We all know what happened when he stepped up. So I guess he will go back to fighting bums again." With Lacy out of the picture Green is now entertaining an offer to face WBO Super-Middleweight Champion Joe Calzaghe in October. "I will take that fight in a second! I have to meet with my promoter first and look at the specifics, but I am all for it," said Green. Green (21-0), is one of boxing's top prospects after scoring the SHOWTIME knockout of the year against Jaidon Codrington and has reeled off four consectuive knockout victories.
I dont know if he is ready for Calzaghe, but it would be a good fight and win if he can do it.

            Zab Judah Arrested!

Former jr. welterweight and welterweight champ Zab Judah was arrested last Sunday in New York City after participating in a celebrity basketball game at Madison Square Garden . The NY Post has reported that police from the Midtown South Precinct arrested the 28 year old Judah as soon as he got off the court after participating in the Entertainers Basketball Classic game, after a woman named Natashia Wright brought an outstanding warrant (from Queens) to their attention. The Brooklyn born Judah was held at Midtown South overnight and then taken to Queens Family Court on Monday. According to the paper, it was unclear why the warrant was issued, yet police sources said it was a "money dispute," but would not elaborate.

Talks Begin For Hatton-Castillo on HBO PPV

It was reported by boxing scribe Dan Rafael of ESPN, that Jose Luis Castillo's promoter Bob Arum and Artie Pelullo, co-promoter of WBA welterweight champion Ricky Hatton, have had several discussions about matching the two fighters in an HBO PPV fight in the first quarter of 2007. The possibility of the fight actually taking place appears to be good.

Two obvious obstacles are in the way, Hatton needs to win his December bout, likely against Oktay Urkal and Castillo must serve out the suspension that the Nevada Athletic Commission will hand down for being unable to make weight for his third bout with Diego Corrales.

"We'd like to have Castillo fight Hatton. They'll probably suspend him until the end of the year," Arum said. "If they do that, we would have him fight in Mexico in a tune-up fight at the end of the year and then have him ready for March or April on HBO. I have talked to Artie, [co-promoter] Dennis Hobson, all of them. It's a big fight and I think it would do very well. It's an exciting match."
                Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Looks like Jermaine Taylor is fighting Kassim Ouma in December. Peter Manfredo Jr. is rumored to be fighting on HBO Boxing after Dark in October, perhaps against fellow Providence fighter Joe Spina.

Taylor vs Ouma & Hatton vs Urango - December 2006

On ESPN FNFs, Teddy Atlas announced that there was to be a fight this December between Jermaine Taylor and Kassim Ouma and also Hatton vs Urango both on the same card. I think that is excellent.

IBF middleweight champ Arthur Abraham is sidelined with an infection and is not able to go through with his defense against Edison Miranda on Saturday (Aug 26) in Oldenburg. Sauerland Event has cancelled the whole show but hopes to be able to reschedule it in
                      September.

French jr welter Willy Blain scaled 139 lbs / 63,1 kg for tomorrow´s WBO I/C titlefight against Panamanian Juan Mosquera, 140 lbs / 63,5 kg at the Universum gym in Hamburg. Alex Mazikin weighed in at 236 lbs / 107 kg for his showdown with Taras Bidenko 224,75 lbs / 102 kg for the Int´l German title. Seven of the nine fights can be seen on boxing.de with the mainbouts televised by EuroSport.

Spotlight Boxing promotes. Danish promoter Bettina Palle on yesterday´s reports that Reda Zam Zam will defend the title against Italian Tobia Loriga. "We tried to get Loriga for Reda´s last defence as well but at the moment I can´t say if he´s coming or not. Neither Thomas Hansvoll vs Johny Jensen is according to the promoter on but adds that it is indeed planned that Jensen fights on the bill. So who will EBU middle champ Amin Asikainen defend against October 6 in Helsinki? The official announcement will come August 28 but it could be German Alexander Sipos. This is not confirmed anywhere - and no-one "leaked". I got the name by pure accident after a language misunderstanding.
