HBO Boxing 05-19-07
Miranda vs Pavlik was a great fight. I had my money on Pavlik.Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/complex219Tags: None -
Re: HBO Boxing 05-19-07
I thought the ref shoulda stopped it sooner. Merchant went to town on Jermain Taylor before the fight, saying he couldn't duck Pavlik forever.
I'm really interested in the Hatton/Castillo fight next month. -

Jesus, what a pathetic "fight" that was. Spinks is a joke, and I loved his running around and celebrating as if he had just unquestionably won or something. What did he throw, 7 punches per round, and all jabs?
Then you get one of the judges somehow scoring in favor of Spinks (117-111 LOL), and Taylor first saying he will fight anyone, then saying whoever allows for the biggest paycheck is who he will fight next.
This is the type of crap that has turned so many people off to the sport. You have great fights like the Miranda/Pavlik bout, but far too often there are ones like this, with some shenanigans thrown in for good measure.Comment

Re: HBO Boxing 05-19-07
Sans the recent progression of Wlad, Pavlik is the closest thing I have seen to Lennox Lewis in years. Everytime I see him fight he is different. He studied his opponent to the smallest degree, then, as many don't do, executed the gameplan beautifully and knocked him out. Abraham figured out that Miranda has to be set to throw punches. So Pavlik beautifully executed the gameplan to constantly keep Miranda off balance and backing up. Sweet, sweet science.
3 things you can guarantee:
1. Manny will not be in Taylor's corner again
2. Taylor will not fight Pavlik
3. Calzaghe will, and I mean brutally, f'k Taylor upComment

I used to be a Taylor fan, but he has booted me off the train. I only watch him now for the minute in between rounds to listen to Manny.Comment

Re: HBO Boxing 05-19-07
Probably the thing that impressed me most about Pavlik was him saying after the fight that Miranda "hits like a mule" but couldn't hurt him. Pavlik seems to be that rare combination of power puncher and granite chin that nobody wants to fight and judging by Taylor's "money comments" after the fight it seems he will go into "duck" mode. Pavlik might opt for an easy WBA world title against Felix Sturm or fight IBF champ Arthur Abraham, who Miranda lost to by decision, despite f*cking him up by breaking his jaw in two places.Comment
