B-Hop will duck JC. I will be shocked if the fight comes off.
    Whatever.

JC can fill stadiums in England. Its yet to be proven if he could fill them in the states and more likely than not this fight will be in the US. Calzaghe has never been on a US PPV so its arguable that he would pull serious US PPV numbers and thats all HBO is concerned about.

Shoot, the Calzaghe/ Kessler fight did a 3.3 in the ratings. The Baldomir/Forrest in July fight did a 3.2. So even with it being for an undisputed championship, two undefeeated great fighters and HBO's hype machine it only did .1 better than a fight between two has been fighters in the middle of the summer. Why? Because Baldomir and Forrest have significant wins in the US and have name recognition. Outside of the hardcore boxing community in the US, Calzaghe has very little name recognition in the US and couldnt carry a PPV alone.

Also you didnt even address my points because you know im right. BHop is the recognized light heavyweight champ and the bigger name in the states. Everybody (including you) knows that. In 99% of negotiations, the most money goes to the person with the biggest name and the current champ in the division. That would be Hopkins.

Also what would a win over Hopkins prove? Calzaghe beat a 43 yr old fighter past his prime! Yay! JC is a great fighter but except for beating a fighter with US name recognition what would beating Hopkins do. I dont think there is a writer alive who would pick Hopkins over JC right now.

The question is why would hopkins take this fight? He's a HOF who has major wins over other HOFs and potential HOFs. Why would he fight Calzaghe and take less money when he has nothing left to prove and he's the bigger name.

By far my favorite thing about Calzaghe is when he gets tagged, he immediately comes back at his opponent. Might be one of the most discouraging things in sports for his opponent....

Kessler caught him at least 10 times where 99% of the MW-LHW would have staggered.
Agreed. I thought Kessler landed the better power punches through the first seven or eight rounds, and Calzaghe didn't buckle at all. There was one point in the ninth round where Kessler caught Calzaghe with a hell of a hook and Joe walked right through it for the counter. Calzaghe just doesn't back down. Balls of steel.

It was a hell of an entertaining fight. Calzaghe won only because he was the better man, not because Kessler is an inferior fighter. Hardly. As Emmanuel Steward said, we watched two guys with an impressive variety of skills at the peak of their powers.

      Take care,

It doesn't matter WHERE Calzaghe fills stadiums.

The fact is, he does it.

There's no reason for him to come the US and fight Bernard Hopkins, other than to prove to a large group of Americans that they're wrong...

Let it go. You are right, but the large majority of the general public don't understand what has happened and the globalization of boxing and what are all the economics of it all.

I dont get what you mean by this. I havent seen anyone in this thread or a top boxing analyst say that they think that Bernard will beat Calzaghe. People would be crazy to think that a 45 yr old man could beat an undefeated champion 10 yrs younger. Still it would be nice if Joe fought somewhere other than his home town for once.

                It would be nice, yes.

But it's just not gonna happen. Frank Warren has more of a stanglehold on English boxing than Don King ever did here.

                50K people in a stadium = huge $$$

There's no financial incentive for Calzaghe, or Khan, or any of those guys, to fight here in the US.

and ideas as to who it could be?
