    Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?

Everybody thanks for the pointers, I started my career today and have had myself going up to 9 rounds the most with wins. It is easier on Career mode, but you still can't button mash or else the CPU will exploit your weaknesses.

I have posted my initial impressions based off of just the exhibition fights I have had over at the blog. I am hoping tomorrow or Friday to have some more impressions of my career adventures.

The more I play this game the more I like it. I can't count how many times the computer or I was on the brink of being dropped at the same time. There is a lot more drama in the fights as apposed to FN Round Burger King. I can forgive a lot of flaws to get varied results fight to fight.. That and the step around punches are sweet!

I'll be heading to the mall tommorow and have a question to ask for you guys that have given the game a fair chance now:

Knowing what you know now, would you still drop $60 for the game again?

When you land a punch that knocks the opponent off balance, try using a step around hook to the same side he stumbles. This is very powerful, and can lead to some wicked looking KOs.

A simple yes. I'm still surprised at the reviews. This ones in the high 8's for me, and I'm being conservative.

I will just say, the more I play it, the more I like it.

If anyone can help me with how to play better against the CPU aggressiveness, I would appreciate it. I like this game, but I am getting frustrated to the point where I am ready to give up. I can go about 4 rounds the most before I get knocked out. I do block a lot, but the damn CPU is like the Terminator and doesn't let up even on Amateur which is sad.

Should I spend the first round or two jabbing and blocking?

I loved the Rocky series and those games were tough because the CPU wasn't a slouch, but I was able to hang with the CPU.

He's also over at the 2k forums doing the same thing. It's a shame that some people try to stop others from enjoying a game.

                    Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?

OK after spending some decent time with the game my thoughts are these:

                    - 8 fights into my career i'm not seeing any rankings, only available fighters on the computer where you book. Hopefully it's not like this the wholw career mode. I'd like a realistic rankings system.

-the training is unique and kind of fun, except I hate the shuttle run. As for the heavy bag you don't have to even do any combos, just hit the target and I always rank pretty high.

                    - Punches themselves are not sluggish but rather your fighter's movement around the ring (footwork) is what's sluggish. Makes it hard to reliably, effectively, and realistically be able to stick and move. You could do so much more effectlively in any FN game.............contrary to popular anti-EA opinions that say that FN is a "slugfest".

                    - Some of the punch animations look alright and some look cartoonish. Punch animations from FN2004 look better and more fluid and they landed harder on your opponent's head and body (I say FN04 because that's what i've been playing lately because of FNR3's weak career mode and because FNR2 isn't backward compatible). When you land alot of head punches on PF they don't feel or look like they connect right much of the time. The body shots look and feel good.

                    - Money punches on this game are the step-in jab and step-in straight. If you get into trouble, back away and just use your step-in jab. I'm quite sure I could beat this game using only the step-in jab punch. Maybe i'll try that on the 2nd playthrough.

                    - Regular jabs are pretty ineffectual. Lame, not to mention very unrealistic. There's no keeping your opponent at bay with these jabs.

                    - Visuals are on par with FN04 on xbox. Very weak for being this deep into the 360's life cycle.

                    - I've heard some people saying you "have to listen to your corner man" during the fight to be successful. No, you don't.....at all. The AI opponents are pretty easy to figure out in the first round.

                    - I'm undecided on the mini-game when you're on the canvas. Very arcadey.....although I like that you can choose when to get up.

                    - Punch damage is pretty weak in between rounds.

                    - Like many others have said, it's a knockdown fest, very unrealistic. So far i'm 37 rounds into my career and i've scored 49 knockdowns on my opponents.

                    - The "rage" punches (or WTF they're called) isn't a very worthwhile system. They'd be better off scrapping that for PF2 (if there even will be a PF2). It's a very arcade feature. Sim boxing games shouldn't have charged up "super punches". Games like Street Fighter have those.

                    - Collision detection problems BIG TIME. But we already knew that before it was even released.

                    - 1:30 rounds in career mode. Need I say more? Most definitely not sim. The fact that you can't change career mode round length is really weak. I think they intentionally shortened the rounds and defaulted the "saved by the bell" rule because all fights would be lasting 1 or 2 rounds because of the rampant knockdowns.

                    - While the documentary stuff is kinda cool, it just feels really disjointed and thrown together. Although I'll give credit for originality. I actually liked the story mode in Venom's Rocky Legends game more though.

                    - Learning curve. I've heard so many defend this game saying it has a "steep learning curve". No, it doesn't. It's very much a pick up and play game if you take 10 minutes to read the instruction manual. I'm 8-0 with 8 KO's and i've had ZERO difficulty shaking off the FN control habits to learn this game. I've played both Rocky games (and Venom used the game engine from the first game even though they didn't develop it)..........and this feels very much like Rocky Legends 2.5.

                    - As per my above point, this is not a sim game. And IMHO opinion it most certainly is less sim than FN. At least in FN you had licensed fighters with signature styles and you had to adapt your style to get victories against your opponents. You weren't getting into many toe-to-toe engagements when you fought guys like Ali or Leonard. Again, Rocky Legends 2.5 is what this is.

                    - I've heard some say you can't button mash with this game. Yes, you can as much as any other game if that's the way you choose to fight. Contrary to popular belief among EA haters......players of that game don't just go toe to toe the entire fight. This game can be kind of sim but only if you're playing other people online or if you choose to play a distance game against your AI opponent. But if your defense is good you absolutely can stand in there all you want.

                    - The stamina meter on this game is no less forgiving than the FN games. If you throw flurries or combos your stamina will deplete just as quick on FN as this game. In fact, your permanent stamina meter grows smaller throughout the fight QUICKER in the FN games so it's actually more important to watch what you're doing in FN.

                    - My longest fight so far in PF has been 8 rounds and i've noticed no physical wear on my fighter as far as speed or agility. I've had many fights in FN where the fighter gets to the late rounds and there's noticable lack of zip in the fighters movements and punches. He even lets his gaurd down a bit from exhaustion. Not so in this game. The only time in PF where i've noticed any kind of drop-off is when I've tried throwing punches while my stamina meter was depleted. After it replenishes he's right back to his old self.

                    - The CAB mode offers more variety in FNR3. In that game I could create a fighter (for example Tyson or Rocky Balboa) and get them looking pretty similar to those fighters. Not so in this game. I spent about a half hour working on my fighter's face with a picture of Stallone in front of me and there was no way to get him anywhere near looking like Sly. He comes out looking like some guido blockhead. The hairstyles are very barebones. I do like the fight gear variety and available colors right off the bat.

Thus far i've had to say the reviews are pretty close to where they should be. I'd give this game a 6 or maybe 6.5 tops. This game isn't being reviewed so low because it's "too sim" or because it "has too steep a learning curve for the nerdy casual gamers at IGN or Gamespot"..............it's being reviewed so low because it's a very mediocre game. Like I said, Rocky Legends 2.5.

Thankfully I didn't pay $60 for this game. I had $10 store credit at Gamestop and traded in Ace Combat 6 for $20. So this game only cost me $33 and i'll just pick up Tom Clancy's HAWX in a couple months to get my fighter jet fix.

For those who don't believe I have the game.............Gamertag: Papa Het

Yes, but also, no game is a $60 game to me. Other than GH/RB and COD 4, I don't keep games. Knowing I can always get at worst $30 for this game, the question is...is it worth $35? No question. It is worth $60? Yes, if you go online.

I have already had 3 fights go 12 rounds online. I have encountered no cheese so far. Fight Night was a cheese fest and very, very rarely went the distance.

Because you gave the game a 6.5 we wouldn't believe you actually have it? You rated it too high if you called PF "Rocky 2.5", because I'd give that game a .5. For that reason I don't take your rather detailed analysis that seriously, because Rocky 2 was utter trash.
