    Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?

This game is funny. I hear 1 group saying it's a slug fest and another saying it requires tactical skills.

Fact is, ALL genres of sports video games face this dilemma. I am aiming for SIM, but real sports are challenging, so how sim should I be.

In basketball, you can't run around and dunk nearly as much as people do in video games. In football, you can't drop back 15 yards and throw a perfect pass. In boxing... real boxing can be slow, methodical, defensive, and strategic. How many people REALLY want that in a video game vs something action packed like fight night.

Professional sports are HARD, so the more SIM u get, the harder and less "fun" the game will be. Games are fun when u win.

      Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?

After reading all the back and forth on this board, 2K board, and the Xbox forum I decided to give it a chance and picked it up. My impressions after playing for a couple hours are good. First off this in not FN3 and thats not a bad thing. To me its hard to compare the 2 games. Some of the negative posts about this game seem to make the point that FN3 was sim which it wasnt. This game isnt perfect there are some problems with collision detection etc. but it is not a game breaker and I am enjoying the game. The career mode is very deep with ALOT to do and alot going on with some great videos to watch and a deep training mode. You can tell the team put alot of time into making the game and for a first effort I am impressed. I would give the game a score of a 7 at this point of playing the game.

        Re: Anyone get prizefighter yet?

Just played for about an hour and a half. Did 2 exhibition fights and then went and played career mode 4 fights.

First I gotta say you HAVE to get in at least 3-4 fights before you judge. I thought it was slow with no depth to the punching after first few fights. But my last 3 fights have gone at least 4 rounds with very sim like boxing IMO. For example: my last fight went 7 rounds (I dropped him midway through) and I had 432 total punches in the fight. I feel I really have to manage my stamina: throw 2-5 punch combos and rely on the jab for openings. When your stamina bar is low you punch and move slow, and if you do land a punch is basically doesn't do any damage. My last fight in the career mode was vs a counter puncher. He did just that mostly, but he did take advantage when it was open. He hit with at least one good bull run of 5-6 punches to end one of the rounds and almost dropped me. I just couldn't get my gloves up/down as quick as he was coming at me.

The career mode is very "Victorious Boxer"ish if any one has played those games. So far through 4 fights it is done very well with HD footage of King, Mario Van Peebles, and other random live actors that I don't recognize that act as your agent, trainer, friends. I hope it is a good story, cause it could be really cool.

I like how the training is done. Basically each event is a series of button presses or actual punches and dodges. Which makes me at least practice the face buttons like I am in a fight. So far I have had 2 weeks to train before a fight and I get to choose which event; each event takes 1 week. One time I got asked to go to a special trainer that took place of my regular training, it helped my strength more than doing the regular. You can auto train but it doesn't give you as much benefit is what the help says.

So far I really like it, but I have only played the cpu on contender difficulty. I can see playing online and having dudes who are good abuse the adrenaline meter. But on the other hand if you can block and dodge it, it means nothing.

Is there a C-A-B mode? If so, how deep is it & how many save slots are there?

Thinking of picking it up to see what it's like for myself but wouldn't mind a bit more info first!

Yeah it did to me too at first. But I was/am still used to FN. Which no offense to FN but you could punch as fast as you could move the R stick. Here in PF you can almost "que" a punch, kinda like Fifa/WE. Basically you can't punch faster than your guy can throw, but if you hit "b" button before the current punch ends than as soon as that animation is done the animation for "b" press starts. If that makes sense, that is what I feel is happening at times. I could be wrong on this idea though. I need to play more.

yeah, it's definitely not as fast as FN. Probably used to that too. I do prefer the analog controls in FN though.

Does all the training rely on matching icons that come across the screen like I've seen in vids? Can the HUD be turned off?

I'm going to hold off on this until the reviews start coming in and I can read more feedback on the boards. I have a hard time getting past the fact that Venom developed this game, and I thought Rocky legends was trash. I'm so used to punches being mapped to the analog stick i'm not sure I want to go back to a boxing game where punches are mapped to the face buttons. We'll see. I also don't like the fact that there's no demo available. So far this seems to be a love it/hate it game.

No the Heavy Bag is you punching. The shuttle run is hiting a and b to run then hitting the trigger to turn. The mitts is reaction time: a button appears on screen and the faster you hit the more points you get. It appears a different places on the screen, and you hae to dodge occasionally.
The jump rope, and speed bag are the only ones that are that have a from of matching icons. They both are patterns though not just random icons. It gives you a rhythm for the task at hand.

Don't know about hud will check next time I play.
