Actually they came out with a college football game in the dying days of the dreamcast that was worse. Not by much, but it was.

Sadly, it was still a much better online experience than Fight Night for me. But it looks like Fight Night finally has its act together.

I disagree...I know I'm in the distinct minority here, but I really liked that College Football game. It was hampered by not having any official licenses for the Bowls, but other than that, I must have put in more hours with that College Football 2K than almost any other football game other than ESPN NFL 2K5. It was basically the NFL2K game with college teams, but to me it was like a dream come true: NCAA football w/ the 2K engine.

Don't get me wrong; the flaws were many and very visible. But, I still have to say I spent more time with that NCAA Football 2K game than any EA offering since. But then again, I'm definitely in the vast minority...

I've decided to give this game another chance. I remember not being impressed with the demo at all but several people who know how I am about sports games told me that it's actually pretty good. I had a gamefly coupon so I just ordered this for about 14 bucks. I have super-low expectations, but I'm gonna give it a fair shot.

Folks are still talking about this game? Wow. Might wanna try FN 2004 or victorious boxers for some great boxing action. PF is damn near unplayable.

If you guys are going to "give it another shot" then don't bother. But if you are willing to invest some time to really and I mean REALLY get to understand where the game is headed then go for it. It really is a good boxing game. It is indeed rough around the edges. I definitely agree with that but to me it's by far the best most strategic boxing game I've played. I'm hoping this new Fight Night will be like this and not that arcade garbage it's been since it first came out.

If you guys are going to "give it another shot" then don't bother. But if you are willing to invest some time to really and I mean REALLY get to understand where the game is headed then go for it. It really is a good boxing game. It is indeed rough around the edges. I definitely agree with that but to me it's by far the best most strategic boxing game I've played. I'm hoping this new Fight Night will be like this and not that arcade garbage it's been since it first came out.

This is basically the type of statement that I keep on hearing. I gave the demo a good 5 minutes before I deleted it, so my experience with the game is pretty limited. The career mode seems interesting. If it's truly as strategic as you say I think there's a good chance I'll enjoy it.

Yeah 5 minutes is not going to get it. You have to erase alot of the Fight Night out of you and then build back up to Prizefighter in order to enjoy it. If the CPU is giving you too much hassle then play against a human, preferably someone who plays the game. If the CPU isn't giving you enough then definitely play against a human.

I just can't revert back to punching with buttons. The graphics looked decent enough, but after killing the FN series since the KO Kings days, Prizefighter is a step wayy backwards, imho.

Pushing a button or pushing a stick doesn't really bother me either way to be honest. Now if you were asking me to go from something like the Wii's controls back to button/stick then that would be a more compelling argument.

There are sports where the stick makes more sense and I can see being that huge step backwards you speak of. Like pitching. I can see using the stick to implement pitching because similar to real life if you don't execute correctly you can leave a pitch hanging somewhere you don't and give up a big hit. You may want to sweep a slider down and away but just like real life, if you don't execute the pitch correctly it can hang over the plate. But boxers don't think jab and all of a sudden throw a hook to the body.
