    Anybody watching Olympic boxing?

I like to watch it just because you know you're going to see these guys again in a few years as pros.

I'm a big fan of Raynell Williams.

I have been watching. Its been good for the most part. I hate the scoring system though.

    Warren is out already.

Yeah, if you're used to watching pro fights, the scoring system is very difficult to understand.

I see ALOT more good punches than what end up getting scored.

But it sure is fun to watch.

The scoring system is a big joke. Teddy Atlas is awesome. His commentary cracks me up. Despite the scoring, it's cool to watch amateur boxing to see young potential talent.

It seems weird to me that headgear is required, but you can only score points if you hit them directly in the face where there's no headgear protection at all.

Good point. I'm pretty sure the Boxing is only going to get better as the games go on. I've seen some pretty unorthodox styles advance so far. I want to see what happens when they go up against some of the favorites.

I did not realize there were so many preliminary matches. Luckily I have three weeks off from school, so I'm catching all the matches late at night here on the west coast.

I've been recording them to the DVR off of CNBC, they're covering almost all of the boxing this year, so there's a TON!

Some of the story lines are killer - like the Russian guy that won it all at the World Championships getting matched up in the FIRST ROUND against the Ukranian that he beat in the WC finals. And then to top it off, the Ukranian beat the freaking snot out of him!

The Brazilians all have unorthodox styles, I wonder if they came up studying Capoeira or something. Of course, the two that I really watched closely got beat.

The scoring system is still hard to take. The only bout I've seen so far was pretty sloppy. Hoping to catch some more, though.

Same here. Watching alot of the games with the wife, but the boxing is so very sloppy, alot of it is hard to watch. There have been a few that are pretty decent, but overall not that great IMO....

Side note - I wonder if MMA could ever make the leap of acceptance as an Olympic event? Just a random wishful thought...

The Scoring system is pure crap, to the point that it can't be trusted. I saw a guy who dominated barely scrape out a win at the last second.

I forgot how rough amateur boxing is compared to the pros.
Look out for Oleksandr Usky (Ukraine) Oleksandr killed in his match Wednesday 23-4.

                        Agree 100 percent.

No wonder amateur boxers must wear headgear: The scoring system encourages nothing but head shots.

The scoring system needs to be overhauled to reward shots to the side of the head and body punches. I saw a guy get knocked down with a shot to the side of the head, which scored no points.

Another negative is that the open scoring promotes too much clinching and wrestling in the final round. Fighters know exactly where they stand in the bout (unless you're the idiot American kid who danced while losing 9-8!), and the winning fighter usually runs away or clinches in the last minute of the fourth round, even if he's only up by a point or two. You never see this much clinching in the lighter weight classes in pro fights.

Teddy Atlas rules. Teddy and Bob Papa back together reminds me of the early days of "Friday Night Fights" on ESPN.

That's not the scoring system itself, that's the judges. They're either incompetent, deliberately cheating, or both.

This is how the scoring system works. I'm pretty sure most of you know but some may not.

All three judges have to click the button at the same time to get a point. So, this cuts down on cheating. I don't see how you could overhaul this time of judging

I don't have a problem with the method of judging. But I would like to see a greater variety of punches rewarded with points. Only flush shots to the face score points. Good body shots and shots to the forehead and the sides of the jaw also should score.
