But the difference is that I'm blocking or avoiding WAY more punches than they do, so I often have a higher connect % then them. Yet I still lose rounds, and eventually matches. I know knockdowns are an automatic 10-8 round, but other than that I guess I don't understand what looks good to the judges.

As an example, I had a higher connect % than my opponent in all but 2 rounds (8 & 9) and the better % in the entire fight, 57-48. But I lose to a unanimous decision in which all 3 judges agreed on every round. This is how it went down:

    Code:
    opponent 10 10 10 10 9 10 9 10 10 9
    me 9 9 9 9 10 8 10 9 9 10
And I wasn't just jabbing all fight either - I tried to stay outside, but definitely exchanged with hooks and uppers when the fight came inside.

He threw 1008 punches to my 691, and as much as I want to believe that wasn't the main factor, the evidence is pretty clear. And yes, I got knocked down in the 6th round hence the 10-8. That's why I'm not upset at the decision, but it's the other rounds that bother me.

Hmm..I usually throw less punches then my opponent by a good margin, but not to that extreme..the differences in connect % though, is usually high.

I usually do my opening up, when the stamina gets low, and those flurries seem to benefit me on the score cards.

Funny you mention that...that was probably the one thing I didn't do (follow up when he had low stamina), and I just won two straight fights where I did just that. I just let the other guy punch himself out (temp stamina-wise, anyway) and then went after him, taking very little damage in the process from his no-stam punches. I won the first fight by TKO in the last round (before I would likely have lost to a decision), and the rematch with a 7th round KO. I'm starting to see how it works now, and it's very sweet.

Its a great feeling to just whoop up on these guys. I had a punch spammer last night who would try and close the gap and just unload like 15 jabs. I did the ducking head fake in and land big counter hooks over and over every time he tried it. Finally by the 3rd round he started seeing that tactic was not going to work and started trying the body spam. Then I cut loose with the jab straight combos just staying out of range of him. Finally dropped him with a hard counter in like the 5th or 6th.

I just happened to run into sportyguyfl31 (NY Kia31) in a ranked match. Damn, dude got some skills. I knew the fight was close and I really didn't know who would win. Luckily I've got a few judges on my payroll lol. Really good fight, we both tried to pick our shots. That final flurry with seconds winding down in the 10th had me laughing my *** off. Both of us were trying to steal that round.

Second pic might be hard to read but the judges had it for me 95/95, 96/95, 96/94. I wish every match was like this.

I just got banged 3 times in a row by body blow spammers. its hard for me to beat them, my guy is big and slow and cant move that fast. and it just hard to keep those guys on the outside, its also hard to know where they are going to throw the punch. if you block their low blows then they will start going to the head, and if you block that theyll just start going high low, high low. HELP!

What a great fight that looks to be. That's one of those things where you know every time you play it'll be fun.

                Re: Online play is AMAZING

I had a great time in my first full online match last night. It was definitely punch heavy but as the fight went on I was able to gain control and slow him down completely and it ended up being a competitive fight. I almost blew it by getting knocked down in a late round after having won most rounds but I got a 10th Round KO on a sweet Left Hook Counter that stunned him and then finished him off with a jab jab straight combot followed by an uppercut.

I was all excited to get on and have another match or 2 online tonight and just didn't have fun at all. It wasn't that I lost, it was just plain annoying that I'm not good enough yet to overcome the better spammers it looks like. I really need to figure out the blocking and counter moves better. I also need to pick someone with more speed to get away from their constant flurries. My first match I was Kelly Pavlik against Mosely and the speed was just too much for me to ever get out as I was suctioned up against him the whole time and got knocked out in the 2nd round and he had thrown 250+ punches in not even 2 rounds.

I decided to try the world championship mode out and went heavyweight which I hadn't played much as the big boys. I had a few downloaded boxers and thought that Ivan Drago might be a good guy for me to use since he had a nice reach and I could do my jabs and straights at a distance if I got someone who throws 100+ punches around. That didn't work at all. I was losing much of the fight and eventually fell to a 7th round after 850 punches thrown by him. I got knocked down 3 times and was able to get up the first 2 times earlier and even won a few rounds finally but all for naught. His created guy was tiny, like 5'11 175 but it looked like he was all speed and stamina. He could throw punch after punch and even when I had some good blocks his bar would never go down. I had never used this Drago before either and he was dirt slow and had no stamina at all so I couldn't do anything to stop him. My only hope was a flash KO it seemed. I was able to catch him a few times and had a nice couple cuts on him but all for nothing.

Unless I can really get a lot better, I don't see myself going online much to play a bunch of guys like this as it seems I'm not the only one. I am now remember why I pretty much never play any of my sports games online.

Wow beautiful fight Pappy and Sport.

I had one like that last night against a random guy. I was Pernell Whitaker and he was Erik Morales (I think). Anyway it was a great fight that went all 10 rounds but I ended up stealing it on the cards 98/95 across the board.

I also had a BS fight I lost on the cards. He out worked me, but my land percentage was better, knocked him down in the 9th, and his health was in a good bit worse shape than me and the judges gave it to him. I was like

                      Re: Online play is AMAZING

From the EA boards, from poster "dirtyomelettes" Some good advice for anyone struggling with online fights.

I thought I'd make a thread sharing some tips for defeating typical online championship fighters. After over 80 matches, I've ran into the same fighting styles consistently and have found several techniques useful in defeating these fighters.

                      1. Block n' Counter fighter: Like the name suggests, these guys like to counter. They will wait for you to come in and will capitalize on your inaccurate punches. They rarely charge at you (except after a successful counter), jab on the outside, or bob and weave. There strategy is to simply sit back, rotate there torso, alternate blocking high and low, and slip in some devastating counters!

Strategy: Don't throw wildly hoping to catch them where they are not blocking, instead pick your shots accurately. Use the In and Out technique by coming in wit a short accurate combo, back off afterward, rinse and repeat. Go for the body when possible seeing as body shots are more difficult for the opponent to counter. Change up your combos so that the counterer does not recognize a pattern in your punches (very important). Once his stamina is low from the accumilated body punches and from his inability to gain enough points in between rounds, go for the kill. Be cautious though, he is a counter puncher after all and one good counter could turn the fight around.

                      2. The Inside Pressure fighter: These guys won't leave you room to breathe. They will press on you the entire match, blocking high and low while walking forward. Ok, so I'm not good with assigning nicknames but you get the the point. They're also looking for a counter opportunity and when it comes, your ribs will get pounded. Some fighters will adopt this style toward the end of a fight if they are desperate and losing. To be honest, These fighters are some of the toughest/cheapest fighters you'll come across.

Strategy: If your an outside fighter, like myself, you may be able to free up some space my circling and occasionally pushing when your space is invaded. What these guys don't understand is that you have to be somewhat aggressive to get points between the rounds. Pick your shots carefully and try to figure out his pattern of blocking. if you land enough shots, you'll win the point game. Start by going for the body. Once he notices your plan, throw some to the head, that will throw him off. If he catches you with a flurry, don't panic. Block his body hooks then switch to the head when you sense a hook/uppercut is coming. Usually after these fighters see that two body hooks were blocked, they will throw a shot to the head. Be sure to block that shot, counter to the body, and unload a combo or two. Beware of illegal blows. Once the opponent becomes frustrated they might throw some headbutts/low blows.

                      3. Haymaker and body hook spammers: These guys have no sense of stamina conservation. Initially they will charge at you with body hooks and random head shots. When they become desperate, aka gassed out in the later rounds, the pitifully slow haymakers arrive on the scene. You shouldn't lose a fight against these kidos' unless you are relatively new to there style of fighting.

Strategy: In the early rounds, fight on the outside. Throw some jabs to keep distance and nullify haymakers, and let themselves gas out. Block there charges, bob n weave, and counter the living daylights out of them. Be economical with your punches, you want a leg up over them in the later rounds. I like to make them miss rather than just blocking, this works best with an outside style boxer. Missing consistently will not only deplete their stamina but it will also enrage them. They will start fighting desperate and allow you to capitalize on their flaws. Try to pace yourself to the point where you will have an easy ko in the 8th or 9th round. Be patient and try not to get sucker punches by their huge swings.

                      4. Smart Outside fighters: I consider myself to be included in this category. These fighters will use most of the techniques I mentioned earlier against their opponents. They fight on the outside with jabs and use the In and Out technique for short combos, preferably to the body. They are very evasive against aggressive and even other outside fighters. Their goal is to make you miss consistently, figure out your patterns/techniques, and capitalize on your weaknesses later on in the fight.

Strategy: Not an easy win, often is left to a decision. Your goal is to land as many shots on your opponent as possible but this does not mean being overly aggressive and missing. Be smart with your combos and find holes in his defense. Try to get him pinned down in a corner and unload a short burst to the body. bob and weave when he throws those long armed straights or jabs, but always counter to the body. If you can consistently win the point game, and deplete his stamina enough, he'll be forced to trade blows with you seeing as he will lose the ability to be evasive. These fighters are tough so don't expect a W walking into this fight. Fight smart, fire vs fire, that's my only good advise in this situation.

If anyone has any more strategies/tips against typical fighter styles feel free to post em. Just for the record (not trying to boast, just providing a perspective) my fighter is a 5"10, smooth style, speed puncher. 42 rank in online championship, last time I checked, and a record of 50-5. I am best suited for outside fighting so some of my tips might cater specifically to my style.

good to hear, but i am not an online sports guy....Too many meatheads overall that make online play a chore and just not fun.

Sure, there are ways to beat their silly system of body spamming etc, but it kills the joy in the game for me personally.

Watched my buddy fight twice online last night and BOTH fights were exactly the same. His opponent swings constantly and he blocks effctively...thn around round 6 or so....IT CONTINUES...Rd 9...same story...Rd 10...he gets KO'd by a scrub with a sliver of stamina.

Bored me and HIM to death....I am fine with legacy and head to head with friends.

FN4 online IS NOT for the most part Boxing.

I am starting to get sick of all the complaining. I have been playing almost completely online and have only lost 1 match so far. I don't throw extreme amount of punches, I throw accurate shots. I am pretty decent at head movement which opens up tons of counter options for me. I want to talk about the main issues at hand.

Guys who throw 1000 plus punches
If you are blocking correctly it removes stamina from them while maintaining your stamina. This also opens them up to easy counter punching from them letting the hands fly to loosely. Then these guys who throw all these punches also when they do connect are connecting with drained temp stamina and doing far less power than your full stamina counter shots.

                          Body spammers
Yet again if you are blocking correctly then there is no "Vacuum effect" if you are blocking. You can move back, you can even throw jabs and straights right as they are punching which will stun them and force their punch to be stopped. Stepping back as they come in for body shots and use your jab is the most effective way to continue to rain blows on them and slow wear them down.

                          Body Haymaker Spammers
I have seen this posted and thought it was a joke at first. First of all the haymakers in general are slow to come out and you have plenty of time to step back and force them to swing at air. Doing this drains a large portion of their stamina when they miss with a haymaker. PLUS like posted above. A simple quick jab are straight will stop the haymaker in its tracks right as he beings to throw it.

                          Finial thoughts
I am starting to feel that people just come here and complain rather than get better at the game. I have not faced a single "cheese" tactic yet that I feel is over powered and needs to be delt with ASAP. The only issue I am having is the talk of DLC for button punching. This should NOT happen in my opinion. Everyone should learn to play with the sticks. It is fair and everyone is in the same boat. It promotes skill over just randomly pressing buttons. While the same can be said for the stick. Hitting for the open areas takes more skill.

I am openly challenging anyone to add me on your friends list. Try and use the most cheesiest tatic you believe to be cheese and over powered. I want to show you it can be countered with correct gameplan, use of that gameplan, and effective counter punching.

                              Great advice, OP.

As you've said, most of that stuff can be countered pretty regularly. The only guys I struggle with as a strictly outside guy are the dudes that do nothing else but wade in with body hooks and uppercuts. If you eat several powerhand uppers, you are going to go down...and when you are constantly warding off body blows, its easy for an opponent to sneak those uppers in there. Its easy to block up and down for all other punches, but uppercuts are much harder to detect.

You can't back them off because jabs and straights do nothing to stop an advance, my biggest gripe with this game. There is literally no way to stop guys form attaching themselves to you like barnacles without pushing them 20 times a match, and a missed push can mean sleepy time if the guy is spamming uppercuts.

I also hate how you can see the haymaker windup, but you can't tell if its going up or down...

Overall though, as mentioned, only a few guys are really good enough to make that work, but when you see a short Tyson-body guy, you know whats about to happen, lol.

I'd say the main thing annoying me online is once again I fought someone who had a created boxer who had their stamina and speed maxed out it seemed. I tried everything I could to counter and block but I was just getting hit way too much and when I could stun him I couldn't put him down as he was quick enough to get away from me. It was crazy how he was able to punch like crazy throwing more than 15 punches in a row without losing any stamina it seemed.
