How often do you throw a haymaker?
I'm not really a fan of the haymaker in FNR4 so I don't throw it. I usually box with the same group of guys and they're all the same way. The only time I'll throw one is if someone is throwing a lot at me. In those cases I just wait for a counter opportunity to blast them in the face with one. Tit for tat.Tags: None -

Re: How often do you throw a haymaker?
It depends who I'm using. If I'm using Tyson or Foreman, I'll try throwing maybe 1 - 2 per round. If I'm connecting with them, I'll try more.
If I'm using Ali, Roy Jones, or someone else with more speed than power, I hardly ever throw them at all. It all depends on exactly how the fight is going. If I need a miracle to win, I might try throwing some and hoping to catch the guy.Comment

Re: How often do you throw a haymaker?
Against smammers (not pressure fighter - there's a difference) and spinners I throw body UC haymakers after a backstep and when someone has fouled me twice I throw a haymaker UC to the head after a retaliatory low blow.Comment

Re: How often do you throw a haymaker?
Wow I am surprised by the lack of hays being thrown by you all. I never throw sig punches. But haymakers are there to be used and should. Their is a weakness to using them and there is postives.
Pappy and others have fought me. I am far far from a spammer. I box in realistic manner. But with that said. I will throw haymakers. Here is why.
Haymakers are the only punch that can flash KO someone without the stunned phase. They are basically the developers idea on power punches.
So I use them basing it on who I am using. couple examples.
Tyson - I like to work my way in with body hooks and left hooks to the head. Since the left is Tysons power hand. Once in close. I keep calm and pick my shots. A guy doing alot of covering I will throw some Body uppercuts to take a huge chunk out of his stamina. This will then open me up to be able to unload on him. Less stamina means his punches hurt less and mine hurt him more. As I wear him down I will go for the big KO with Tysons power. Using a haymaker to the head.
Jones Jr. - Roy I am not using a lot of hays. I am instead using his head movement to cause counters and using his speed to rattta tat all over their face with jabs and straights. Using his foot work to get in, land some jabs and straights then get out of range. Force them to waste punches in empty space and drain their stamina. Now if I happen to catch them and rock them. You better believe he better try and get the hands up because a big shot is coming.
Lamotta - This is based when I am fighting Jake. Jake has a tremendous chin. You can hit this cat with 40 or 50 hays in a fight and he just keeps trucking. So you need to hit him with Haymaker body shots. Jakes stamina is not the greatest and after 6 or 7 rounds of taking body haymakers. He will have a very tough time staying up right.
Now you can't do this to every fighter. First you have to find their weakness. Jake Lamotta's is his foot speed. He is not going to have the foot speed to bounce out of range of that body haymaker. So he is forced to block and take some of the shot or take the lick.
Then on the other side of the fence if u are fighting a person who is just a haymaker spammer. Well if you have a fighter with faster foot work than theirs. You can make them miss on those and that takes away big chunks of stamina.
I am not saying spam haymakers. But removing them out your game really really will have a big impact on your fights. Knowing the perfect time to land a big haymaker cross is huge. A fighter keeps coming at you just wailing. Do a push away and use that space to have him coming on as you blast him and put him to the canvas.Comment

To all of you "skilled" haymaker users..how many do you typically throw per fight.

Re: How often do you throw a haymaker?
Now with that said. Like I have stated in my post. The amount I throw depends on who I am fighting with.
Tyson - 3 to 4 a round so a 10 round fight u are looking around 30 to 40 a fight
Jones Jr. - 1 to 2 depending on how often they get stunned so around 10 to 20 a 10 round fight.
See like I said. I fight realistic. But the reason I am lost as far as the hate for them being used is. If I fight a haymaker spammer. It is pretty easy to stop them. They are going to tired themselves out pretty quick. But if you go to a jab base offense you pretty much nullify all haymakers.

Re: How often do you throw a haymaker?
There is no such thing as a haymaker cross. I wish there was. And i've flashed KO'd dudes without using haymakers.
I never use them, unless im desperate or if an online dude uses them against me."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: How often do you throw a haymaker?
If you throw the haymaker hook with the LEAD hand. It is a true HOOK.
Now throw a haymaker hook with the power hand (back hand) and it is much more similar to a cross. It is much straighter and has much more range than the lead hand. So that is the correct hand to use on people walking in.
More range and big power. The motion on the controller is not a cross but the animation is much similar to a cross.Last edited by Phobia; 10-23-2009, 03:18 PM.Comment

Re: How often do you throw a haymaker?
See I don't see the reason for the head shake on this matter. If you are working the jab, haymakers are stopped. The animation is halted if u connect with a shot as they start the haymaker. Where regular shots don't get halted. So the only way haymakers are going to land is if you are 1) walking into them with you hands down 2) standing flat footed 3) Not working the jab
