Re: Are You A Fan Of Floyd Mayweather?

Boxing historian Bert Sugar has forgotten more fighters than we'll ever see. Here's what he has to say about Floyd's bravado that he's the GOAT:

"I think he's way off base," said boxing historian Bert Sugar. "Sometimes, I have to hold it in not to laugh at him. Everybody has a right to be proud of his accomplishments or achievements, but it's almost an obsession [he has] with his pristine and perfect record. It's his white whale. Ray Robinson lost. Ali lost. It's out of proportion. I do think he's one of the greatest defensive fighters I have ever seen. But he's not a complete fighter, by any means."

not a complete fighter? Sorry but i fail to see how he's not a complete fighter. Is it because he doesnt KO everyone? The guy is one of the best defensive fighters, has incredible speed and accuracy, a great straight right, left hook, etc. How is he not a complete fighter? If Floyd isn't a complete fighter then there hasnt been a complete figher in a very very very long time.

Screw that decrepit crypt keeper. Before the Marquez fight he was saying it was a toughe fight than Manny for Mayweather. After the fight he called Floyd a cherry picker wft?

I agree with Sugar. We all know Floyd is going to have to win rounds to do this. He's not complete in that he doesn't have layers of skill.

First off, I'm not here to diminish Floyd Mayweather and his skill. I just happen to think that if he gets in a situation where he's stunned, he's in big trouble. I don't think he has the power or toughness to hang in there after being heavily rocked. He's the type of guy that will act like nothing hit him when something really did. To me that means his immediate response isn't the ability to retaliate but to try and persuade it did nothing.

But, in the context of Sugar's comments, I agree. I don't look at Mayweather and see him as great because of his record. I see him as a great defensive fighter, that given the right opponent, his deficiencies could be exposed.

so youre saying that you think if he gets hit hard where he's stunned that he's in trouble. But where is the evidence to support that. Floyds been hit with some clean shots and he just smiles because it either didnt hurt him or he's surprised he got hit. If you're referring to something like De La Hoya crowding him against the ropes and throwing a flurry that doesnt really land and gets the crowd excited, like i said those punches arent doing damage.

IMO Floyd's only weakness is if he's up against the ropes with the fighter crowding him because he falls back into that defensive shell. If we're talking skills though, i fail to see a skill that Floyd lacks except maybe KO power but in that case KO power isnt everything and Floyd shows that because he can win fights by dominating the score card and not knocking a guy out. I know fans want KOs and to see guys close the show but if a guy isnt a power puncher and displays the skills that Floyd has then he doesnt need to take any extra risks by knocking someone out when he can easily win by outpointing someone.

It is quite obvious you didn't watch the Mayweather vs. Corley match did you? Cause if you had you would have known that Corley absolutely rocked mayweather with a flush shot that sent May backwards towards the ropes and had him stunned. He was able to recover and get some good flurries, in addition to Corleys big right hand, Judah rocked him as well and he recovered. He showed remarkable skill in clinching and ducking while rocked.

I agree, and like I said I'm not here to try and say he lacks greatness. I think though that as Sugar stated, the record doesn't mean he's great. And, like you mentioned about his ability to carry fights long and win rounds, that is related to defense and the ability to evade.

You pull that clip out like I'm saying Mayweather has never been hit. All I'm saying is When he gets hit like that he doesn't have the toughness to retaliate.

C'mon man just stop, you brought up an argument that was untrue and now you are going down with the ship aren't you captain. FYI, he got rocked recovered and knock Corley down, is that toughness or did you forget about that part?

Hey, I'll stop. I'm not about to make it an argument or life manifesto. I just agree with Sugar's comments. You are talking about Corley. Just in your video, look at how week his arms are in the punches he threw after stunning Mayweather.

The topic is are you a fan of Floyd. My first post is yes because of his ability. Me claiming he isn't the toughest of boxers doesn't mean I'm being stubborn and "going down with the ship."

I'm not the biggest Floyd fan, but this guy has "eyes" when he settles in he's a frame ahead of his opponents.
