    IGN Review

Fight Night Champion gets the boxing right and adds a flawed but enjoyable story mode. I've always put a lot of stock in career modes, but Legacy mode here is just downright bad. The mini-games are too tough and get boring fast. The entire concept just seems off. What should greatly extend Fight Night Champion's playtime, made me like the game a lot less. Avoid the career mode, enjoy the story mode, and spend a few hours creating some dream boxing matches. That will make any boxing fan happy.

That quote is misleading then because it still received a score of 8.0 and a "great".

Doesn't matter what score they gave because all the things they complained about is what I hated about FN4. The career mode was uninspired dreck and I've never understood why they make your new CAB fight in slow motion and be powerless. I would have to increase speed 5 notches just so my CAB's matches played the same as the Fight Now matches. You could barely beat journeyman fighters because your CAB was so anemic. That might work in other sports games but comes off badly in a boxing game.

Online is always flawed like every other sports game ever made so you can't play that for long without feeling frustrated.

I can't believe they wasted 2 years making a shallow story mode when they should of ignored that and concentrated on career mode. No buy for me that's for sure because I know it will get boring fast.

The training modes are too hard and become tedious. And why do boxers start off fighting so pathetically? No stamina, no power. The matches are slow and boring. I want to be a rising star.
That says it all... I don't mind slow and tedious so that review was for a different kind of player than me.

I will do it, but I agree with him. He said the same thing for nba2k11 and to a certain extent he's right.

As sports games evolve, we need to drop the whole 'starting a professional career as a bum' thing. Seriously it doesn't make sense anymore.

2k11 is great, but he was right about that too, you don't get in the nba sucking in every category including speed, vert, shooting, quickness and so on.

In boxing you don't turn pro punching like a girl and getting gassed in one round.

I"m sure I'll still enjoy the mode after griding out the beginning, but there's a better way and it's about time we get it.

You do start in boxing sucking like that, but the emphasis is more on training and becoming the best at maximizing your strengths.

I'd prefer creating a fighter like the old madden DNA of parents thing and getting a basic fighter. Then that fighter be molded. As a young fighter I expect my technique to need work, my stance and footwork to be awkward and punches and blocking to be less than average.

This is absolutely right. It's going to take some thinking that is against the grain to what is currently in career modes, but it needs to be done.

This is disappointing. The only thing I wanted to play was career mode as I'm not a big online gamer. Seeing that the career mode is the weakest part of the game, I am no longer planning on buying it. I guess I'll wait another 2 years and see if they can get a entertaining career mode in the next version.

this crappy career mode is why i ragged on this game a few months ago.

We want a career mode. #2 behind gameplay improvements.

Don't worry guys in 3 years if we're lucky they MIGHT give it to us.

Well Phobia already said that the career mode is pretty much the same as last time so if you're buying mainly for career mode then you're throwing away your money.

This game was going to be hard sell for me anyways because of so many good games coming out the next few months but now that it's more like FN4.5 in terms of career and presentation, which unfortunately was the weakest parts of FN4, this will be more worth a purchase when it's $20 in a year.

Same for me, I was going to gamefly it anyways but now hearing the legacy mode is unchanged then I'll skip on even doing that. Not too big of a deal because this wasn't a must have for me. Maybe next game for us legacy mode players fellas.
