Re: In defense of my FNC purchase.

I purchased FNC. FNC is the best boxing game ever. The problem is with some minor tweaks it could have been a legendary game. I have some hope for patches and tuner sets but the game I have now is a good game.

I just want to give props to Phobia because he didn't let community day experience blunt his assesment of the game.

Thanks Grunt, I looked at it from a consumer point of view and still have. I am a customer like everyone else and treated the whole experience with a business point-of-view. Because in the end that is what we all are customers vs seller. When you have titles such as NBA2k11 where it is solid everywhere, presentation, graphics, deep franchise, signature styles, sliders that work, etc you see that these titles are really competing versus each other and it is our job as consumers to determine what is worth our dollar.

But in the end, I like FNC a LOT. I just can't get past all the bugs and issues I have crossed. Hell our online gym has been put to a halt by a gym ending bug and no reply on a fix. So the only area of the game I was enjoying a lot was taking away. Like you said, fix these small issues and you got a great title.

I agree, a few fixes and tweaks and the In the ring portion would be very good. If they add a Robust Legacy, the game could teeter on greatness.

Hopefully you can push for a revamped Legacy mode at your next communityy days for Round 6.

I hope I will get to go back! Because like you said it is so close to greatness. But Presentation & Deep Career mode has put that to a halt this year. But the gameplay for this year is sooo close to being great with a few tweaks.

I think you should get invited back, everything you said about the game was honest.

I'm in the same boast as you. I like alot of things about this game. People who take offense to critical comments would probably think I hate the game. But I think we do need to push the developers to revamp career mode and make a few tweaks on the in ring portion of the game.

We have to wait another 2 years for a new boxing game, so hopefully they can take the feedback we have given and use it to create the best sports game out there. It has potential, the foundation is set, now they just need to take it to the next level instead of having a barebones rinse and repeat legacy mode.

              EXACTLY!

Most might think I HATE the game. But like my review states, I believe the game is GREAT and is a worthy of that word. But I think the bugs, freezing issues, OWC steroid packs, and Sliders not working should of never been in the game if it was tested properly.

Hell I had the game 24 hours before I found the Slider issue, then only a day are two later did I see the "injured spleen" bug and "Skip rest period" bug in legacy. So these bugs and issues were not hidden and extremely rare. They popped up within 72 hours of having the game. So I see a big problem, was this game tested at all??? or did it get shipped out with these issue being known??? Which I think the most logical explanation is they knew about them but they have a street date to ship and stick by it at all cost. This is a HORRIBLE business practice and they should be called out for it, because in the end the only people reaping the repercussions of this is the consumer.

Bottom line is I like the game a LOT, but I focus on the issues that bring down the game from being a cult classic such as NFL 2k5. One of those titles that transcends time and can be played for years and years. With some tweaks to gameplay, tweaks to AI tendencies being more pronounced, and deeper career mode. We would have the greatness boxing game ever created.

I am so critical because I care and want to see the developers succeed to that level. If we sugar coat everything then nothing is learned and nothing is improved upon. Pointing out and being harsh about the issues is not a bad thing, wouldn't it drive you to make a better product if you were the one reading this about your work?? I know it would drive me to "show" everyone we could improve

I feel that this is the best boxing game I've ever played. EA is getting there...

I've mostly played online, so take that for what it's worth.

Re: In defense of my FNC purchase.

In speaking of defending my purchase (because we have an impressions thread), I'm not ok with what I spent for it and some of the issues I am seeing. In particular the freezing, dirty disc issues and sliders being taken away from online gyms.

I enjoy playing online and EA has fixed many issues that were in FN4. The problem is not everything is as advertised. That's what gets me going and that's frustrating. I do thoroughly enjoy Fight Now and the OWC because I know for certain I'm boxing and winning because I'm boxing. That makes it a lot of fun. Even when I lose I can almost always look at it as what I should have done.

                    Yes exactly.

Also we need to push for real time presentation!

This is what makes NBA 2K11 so amazing. Everything is happening in real time. When you see Lebron bitting his fingernails, it's not a cutscene that plays out exactly the same every single time. With the same background with the same jersey on in the same spot on the court. It's just his player model actually biting his fingers, wherever he is on the floor and the camera just zooms in on him. It will be different every time.

FNC is all cut-scenes. Which is why everything happens the same way every single time!
The same 1 punch KO scene. Which is why u see a guy go down from a body blow, he's on his knees. Jarring skip to cut-scene later he's on the ground sleeping.

This has to go if they want to take their presentation to the next level.

I don't think any EA game has real time presentation and that is soo last generation. It's kinda sad actually.

Very true, Vast. Fight Night Champion's presentation is a small bag of very identifiable animations and cutscenes. I seriously believe that with a more robust physics engine and a more dynamic presentation package, Fight Night Champion would sell better than it has with the silly story line. Leave the story line stuff to the buyer so he can do that in legacy mode.

But just in the area of knockdowns and even cuts, things are way too recognizable to where we've already seen it too many times. The one thing I do enjoy seeing is a fighter getting knocked down against the ropes. That produces different scenarios. You can manipulate a knockdown by continuously hitting someone in different spots, but the initial stun and knockdown animation is very limited in its presentation.

With commentary, something I do is when I'm alone and can be loud is I do my own commentary. Even on the ring entrances I talk about the records and how many KOs the fighter has. I do this in OWC a lot. If a guy comes in with a lot of fights, I talk about how he's a veteran. If a lot of his wins are by KO I mention that we should look to see that fighter come out strong and intentional. There are so many things you can do with commentary. Another thing I do is when the fight starts I don't open up with, "Hello again everybody...we welcome you..." I act as if there was a pre-fight show and they just handed it over to me. So I'll start with, "Thank you Brian, and as we do get ready for tonight's main event, one more look at the tale of the tape."

I know this takes work and I understand resources may be low and put into other areas, but what we have is a generic entrance with a generic 3 man corner crew and a generic comment on how that fighter is walking to the ring. That is all followed by a generic in ring animation with an announcer that has zero passion introducing the fighters. And then the referee mentions something very quickly and the fight starts. They can do better. Not trying to be a jerk, but it's very poorly done.

I agree. The Fight Night's crew's job should be easy. They have 2 years to build a great legacy mode and increase the atmosphere and the enhance the rankings within legacy, etc and other portions of the game. Most of it revolves around text and presentation.

The boxing within the ring is solid. Tehy just need to tweek it a bit and add much more variety of animations.

For the love of everything that is good, I hope they do not make another cheesy tutorial story mode. Those resources need to be spent on career mode.

It has 0 replayability. It was a tutorial wrapped inside a well done cinematic production that ripped its story lines from Don King Prizefighter and other Cliche boxing movies.

The presentation in it was great. I just wish this type of presentation would be part of legacy mode instead of canned in a story mode.

What really says, "I did ok with this purchase" is that I'm looking forward to getting on later tonight and messing around in champion mode and fight now. I really do enjoy assigning points to my fighters to where they are in a position to really compete. My middleweight guy has really proven to be something special with solid punch and defense skills. I'm getting good results with body work and even my uppercut. I really do love this game. It has some issues but definitely worth the purchase for me.

I like the game , I jumped right into legacy mode, and I don't think i got a true appreciation for the game. Til I played the fight now games. had some great fights. Hopefully this patch and tuner update helps the game the way I think. Also for the future , footwork, and real time cornerwork is something I would like to see. I wanna see my boxer get splashed with water, them working on a cut, giving real strategy , also clash of heads so that we can have unified rules .
