I just read cause Bhop didn't pay his IBO sanction fee the belt is now vacant. Does that mean bute and dawson fight for it now,and the winner fights hopkins?

Indeed......that's even the advice given by Hop's corner...."Tie 'im up! You got to tie 'im up!"

Oh, I see, you just repeat what you hear, you don't actually report what you see.

Hopkins did very little holding in that fight (especially by his standards). And what his corner told him was to tie him up IF he came forward and tried the rough stuff (what they called young man fighting). Otherwise they told him repeatedly that Pascal was coming right up the middle, step to either side, throw the right lead and "wipe his nose with the left."

Your comment made it seem like Hopkins threw 1 punch at a time and then hugged. That did not happen at all. When Pascal was content to stand there (Which was 75% of the fight), Hopkins moved threw and moved. That is the most offensive minded I've seen Hopkins be since Tito. The only time Hopkins held was when Pascal attacked and tried to (or was successful at) backing him to the ropes or a corner.

agreed good post and thats exactly how I would describe Bhops strategy...Actually this was one of Bhops best efforts ever other than the Trinidad fight..masterful picasso performance..lol..Funny but I think he can do the exact same thing to Dawson..But wouldn't mess with Bute at this point..I am getting worried about him getting hurt now..He has been staggerred and hurt more in these two fights than all his fights combined..Don't know whetehr to attribute that to Pascal or deteriorating reflexes..If I am Bhop I am fighting Dawson in Atlantic City for a boatload of money and I am out...

I haven't seen Dawson fight in a while, and I can't believe Pascal beat him. The good news about Hopkins getting rocked is that he has a chin unlike RJJ. We never knew in RJJ's case because nobody actually hit him for 10 years, but once someone found him (Tarver, I think was the first), turns out RJJ has a glass jaw.

One thing I found really interesting about the post-fight was Hopkins saying that he fought cautious all those years so that he could be more offensive at the end. Now with most boxers in post-fight, it's in one ear and out the other. But, when it comes to Hopkins, I pretty much believe him. I don't know how wise it is, as you point out, given his age and the risk involved at light heavyweight. But, if he is true to his word and fights until he is 50, that's 3 more fights at his current pace. We know one will be Dawson (And I agree, he should fight Dawson in AC and retire). Most will call for Bute as well. Who's the third?

That's what i saw. Hopkins lands then wraps Pascal up preventing wild counters and flurries that were catching Hopkins earlier in the fight. Not sure which fight YOU watched

Because his style keeps fights close I see him fighting Dawson twice..and unfortunately I see him fighting Bute as well...The Dawson fight will be close but dawson doesnt press the issue enough to take advantage of Bhops eroding skills and Dawson is also prone to having lapses in fights just like Pascal..Bhop will take advantage if that...Hey how about another Jones fight..lol

Pascal did more clinching and refused to let go in that fight. For the most part, BHop controlled things and didn't really have to clinch. The most aggressive clinch I saw was in 12 where he got rocked and wisely clinched.

I still can't believe at 46 he pretty much handled Pascal. It was nothing like Foreman over Moorer where you sat there wondering how Foreman knocked him out like that. In this fight the older guy clearly just looked better and controlled it. 46 years old. I'm so impressed with what he did.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I have never seen Bute fight, so I am going to have to go watch some tape to see if I am as concerned as you about Hopkins fighting him. Regardless, if that fight happens, Hopkins is probably 50, which is reason enough not to do it. As for Dawson, I think he has more technical skill than what I saw from Pascal last night. Although, I think that first big right hand lead left Pascal snakebit (thumb in his eye didn't hurt either, although, I didn't think it was intentional...this time ). In fact that punch from Hopkins reminded me a lot of the right hand Jones hit Ruiz with. Any chance Ruiz had of winning that fight died when Jones shot that quick right hand right between his gloves. If Dawson can move forward AND avoid that snakebite punch, he has a chance to win early rounds. The question is whether he can get Hopkins out of there before the 7th. As Pascal found out the first time around, Hopkins CAN fight stronger late in fights and you never want to corner a snake (and i mean that in the best possible way) like Hopkins.

Hopkins/Jones rematch is one of those fights that got away. Would have paid big $$$ to see them go at a catch-weight around the time that Hopkins fought Trinidad. Pac-Mayweather might be that type of fight for this generation. I'd say an Ali/Foreman rematch fits that category too.

They mentioned his time in prison the other night, and I think THAT is why he could do what he did. Well, the time itself and the fact that the warden told him he would "see him soon" when he was released. Like no other boxer of his era, or any since the 70s, Hopkins did it his way even though it meant making little money and being the best kept secret in boxing for years. That kind of single-minded determination is what I believe sets him apart. He didn't fall victim to the usual pitfalls of most boxers (or famous people in general really), but more importantly, he actually excelled at keeping his body pristine. His lifestyle and boxing style both meshed to produce an experience that has allowed him to fight for 23+years, defend hid MW title 20 times, and beat guys as much as 18 years his junior.

Just for the record, I kind of dislike Hopkins. Besides the fact that he hails from Philly and I am a PA product myself, there is little else the same about us. I never really understood his out of the ring behavior either. However, if you study the sport, it is hard to dislike what he has done.

Bute is a strong, fast fighter, but if you can get him to chase you and throw punches in the later rounds you can catch him. I think his conditioning is questionable. His last fight he fought well, but the skill of the guy couldn't and wouldn't put punches together. Hopkins would have to fight a similar fight to what he did in the Jones fight. Because Bute can box unlike Pascal he doesn't throw wild punches. Bute has a good jab and hook, he throw combos, but leaves his body open at times. If Hopkins does fight him he may end up looking like Roy in his last fight.
