Warrior in the ring. Good father and man out of it. His work with the kids in his community tells you all you need to know about the man. The statue in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art should have been Smokin' Joe throwing his monumental left hook.

      R.I.P. Champ.
      NFL:Packers
      MLB:Reds/Tigers
      NHL:Red Wings
      NCAA:Michigan Wolverines.
      F-1: Ferrari.

It's been a while OS. Hope all are doing well!

During the football game last night I inadvertently flipped the channel and saw Joe in the first Rocky movie (playing himself).

RiP Joe. Tony Kornheiser did a great intro to his radio show this a.m. (w/David Aldridge) giving perspective on Frazier's career and stature as an icon. Gave great insight about Frazier's relationship w/Ali (touched on race, celebrity, etc.)
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Want to see some great Non-Ali Frazier fights?? Check out his fights with Quarry, Ellis & Foster. Man was non-stop & left it all in the ring!! Rest in peace Smokin Joe.

Ali's first fight with Quarry was his first since his 3.5 year exile from the ring and my first interest in Ali. Several barrages later and they stopped the fight on cuts in the 3rd round. I remember on Rowan and Martins Laugh-in they showed a huge picture of Quarry's battered with a fake Quarry voice, saying, "It wasn't Ali that beat me, it was those 385(guessing at that number) lucky punches"

In Ali's second fight with Quarry he dominated him and between rounds was heard to say "isn't this an easy way to make a living"? At Ali's pleading the ref finally stopped the fight in the seventh.

Frazier's first fight with Quarry was Ring Magazine's 1969 Fight Of The Year. Five years later they fought again with many experts picking Quarry because he had strung up a lot of wins and was exhibiting some very good power, including a 1st round KO of Earnie Shavers. Frazier's camp worked on Joe's right hand which he used to surprised Jerry, leading to a dominating early stoppage.

Ali and Joe's fights with Bob Foster were interesting because in each of those fights Foster was the reigning light heavyweight champion. They were also huge mismatches and Bob was taken apart easily in both bouts.

Time for Philly to have a real statue of a real boxer in town.

Don't be surprised that it will be at Sly's insistence.
