Thinking of reubuying: Where does this game stand now?

When/what was the latest patch? I remember really loving this game before I got rid of it, but I also remember there being some sort of issue with damage never showing in fights.

I really only play legacy/dynasty/career mode or whatever it's called...MAYBE the story mode or online.

With that said, my next decision will be to buy it for $30 at Wal-Mart or do the digital download. Can I just get the career mode (non-story mode) for $4.99?

I think if you play this offline you have a really good chance of enjoying it. I'm thinking about starting a new career for myself. This is probably the most played game for me this generation. With all its flaws it has always been a very easy pick up and play type game for me.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I don't see how us 'sim' boxers can't get something going and enjoy this game.

What I meant by "cuts," is damage: Is it showing with any of the patches now? I thought I remember hearing that damage was never shown or did not work properly.

I play on the PS3 and the problem I have, what makes the game almost unplayable for me is the stamina. The games seems to punish you for boxing on the outside, and lots of lateral movement.

For example, I will stick and move with the jab, counter punch and continue to move in and out of range. The CPU will be clearly out beaten in the round, I land at a 40 to 45% clip and the CPU gets 12% stamina replenishment while I get 1 or 2%.

This creates problems for me in the later rounds. If I don't KO the CPU before the 5 or 6th round i am no longer effective due to lack of stamina. Then the CPU cuts the ring off and KO's me.

I have lost many fights where i have won every round up until I get KO'ed due to lack of stamina in the 2nd half of fights. The fact that the CPU can be thoroughly outboxed and regain 12% stamina and you only regain 1-4% after giving the CPU a boxing lesson is what keeps this disc out of my PS3 more than anything else.

This really sucks, cuz I enjoy everything else about this game other than the broken stamina. I may give it one more shot with the stamina slider maxed even though I know the CPU will never lose stamina that way. At least I may be able to stay in fights that go more than 6 or 7 rounds.

                      Play at your own risk.

Re: Thinking of reubuying: Where does this game stand now?

I picked up this game again myself a couple of weeks ago. I have been enjoying it myself. Actually, I've had more fun watching the CPU play against each other rather than playing myself.

I've gone in and re-edited the boxers. I've learned a couple of things on my own which have probably been said in a couple threads since the game came out:

                        1) The Counter Punch-Aggressive slider is the most important slider when it comes to boxer punch output. This slider is not really about whether the CPU will be a counter puncher as it is how many punches he would throw. With this slider turned down to "0" all the way over on the counter punch side...the CPU will average anywhere from 40-50 punches a round. With the slider at 8-10(just 8-10 clicks to the right) the CPU with throw between 70-80 punches a round. So, I keep that slider between 0-10 at all times. I've edited most of the boxers to replicate their true to life style and outputs.

                        2) The Plodder-Move(forget the name) slider is very important too. For all boxers with the exception of Heavyweight, Light Heavyweight, some Middleweight, and a select few Welterweights, I have this slider turned all the way up on the Moving Around side. This gets the boxers to actually move around the ring and not just stand there and go head up brawl style.

                        3) The Created Boxer cut glitch was never fixed...so created boxers still don't get cut.

                        4) I lowered a whole lot of boxers Speed and Conditioning slider. I don't know what it is about EA but they are very heavy handed in their games when it comes to speed and quickness. Not every boxer has superior hand speed. So, I adjusted that along with boxer conditioning. That way I don't have to come down too far on the Stamina Global Slider.

With these adjustments, I've seen an interesting mixture of fights. I've seen 12 round decisions...I've seen 1 punch KO's...I've seen Knockouts from boxers who were on the losing end of the scorecards.

One fight in particular was Ali-Tyson. Ali was giving Tyson a boxing lesson and winning on the scorecards...til Iron Mike ended the nights festivities by 1 punch KO in the 10th round when he put Ali on the seat of his pants with a devastating hook. I've definitely enjoyed this second go around and is my hold over until the new football games drop.

                          @Tarheel

Is there anything systematic about the edits, for example, any across the board edits for all boxers that make the game more playable without affecting individual styles? More importantly, did any of your edits have a direct effect on stamina of the cpu boxer?

If so, could you please share in more detail?

                          Thanks,

The only thing I did where you would qualify it as systematic was in regards to boxer movement vs. plodder.

For every weight class under Middleweight, I put boxer movement to the max. For Heavyweight, the overwhelming majority I made plodders because there really aren't many if any heavyweights that rely on sticking and moving(exception being Ali). So, I made the Heavyweights plodders focusing on throwing more power punches than quick punches...of course each boxer hving different styles.

For the smaller weight classes I focused on movement and quick punching. I also went to youtube and pulled up the different fighters to check their styles so that I could try and edit them true to life. The thing I didn't want to happen was make the same eidts for every fighter because then there would be no variation and the game would play the exact same.

For example, some fighters have higher punch outputs than others. Some guys have more power than others etc.

As for stamina, I edited the boxers conditioning slider so that I wouldn't have to lower the global stamina slider too much. That way, I'd be able to see fights go the distance. EA did fix the issue where if you used movement your stamina bar would go down. The only thing I don't like is the fact that created bozers dont cut or swell because I have a lot of created boxers loaded. Other than that I've been having a great time.
