Re: Anyone watching Olympic boxing this year?
trying to!
I saw the Terrell Gausha/Andranik Hakobyan match yesterday afternoon. It was an awesome, close fight through the first 2 rounds... with Gausha actually trailing by a point going in the 3rd. So he came out guns BLAZING, and put the Armenian dude's *** on the mat twice in the final minute. Second of which forced the referee to stop the fight just as the final bell was about to ring. Was awesome to watch.
USA baby!
Chicks dig the long ball.

Re: Anyone watching Olympic boxing this year?
I'm having the same problem despite having 4 different sources; CBC, TSN, Sportsnet and NBC.
It seems they flip from boxing to many other sports so I have no idea of knowing when boxing will actually be televised.
I can see on the schedule that there are fights taking place, but most of the stations will only flip to boxing if there's a lull in action from the other sports they're presently broadcasting.Comment

Re: Anyone watching Olympic boxing this year?
Terrible...Olympic boxing = WWF. Today was everything that is wrong with Olympic boxing (and boxing in general). Almost every match was a travesty in some way or other today. I can't believe the IOC would let this happen.
For one thing, they need to go back to pro-style scoring (10-point must system). This isn't boxing, it's "tag". And they should get a handful of pro refs and stick with it. Grabbing refs from Turkmenistan or wherever that have no credibility in the sport makes no sense and leaves itself open to charges of corruption. Which, after the fight between the Japanese and Azerbaijan fighter today, appears a near certainty. Then there were the slew of questionable decisions, and then the DQ of the Iranian heavyweight...just a terrible black-eye for the sport.Comment

Re: Anyone watching Olympic boxing this year?
I know that in the 'old days' no head-gears were worn. It was odd seeing Ray Leonard without any bucket on when he won his Gold medal.
So they're going back to that, and a pro-system?
Boxing is corrupt by nature, but I hope they can iron out some of the issues going forward.
Ever since the '96 Seoul Olympics, amateur boxing hasn't been the same.
Nobody even wants to broadcast it.Comment
