I think the "true welterweight" factor has some importance in that potential fight as it does in a Spence-Crawford battle. Thurman has had some protection but he still beat Garcia and Porter (albeit by close decisions). Crawford has beat some good fighters with the best being Postol (IMO) but no 140 pound killers.

I wasn't really debating who would win that fight, but rather if you'd have a big interest in seeing it.

Broner-Vargas a pick-em, Gervonta a big favorite, Charlo a HUGE favorite. Saturday Night.

Sure, I would love to see it, only to see the overrated Thurman get his azz kicked. "One Time" is an appropriate nickname for Thurman, as that's how often he fights per year.

Hopefully Boener gets knocked out. Love seeing him get destroyed. Will check it out. Always enjoy watching charlo's fights too

Think inactivity has anything to do with that? You can't fight only once per year or less and enter camp expecting your body to adapt easily. Playing the pan flute may be good for the soul, but it doesn't do much for the body.

Even wonder why Floyd, other than his hands, and GGG almost never get hurt? They're in the gym all the time, either training or preparing for two fights per year or more.

Thurman is on the Haymon 401K plan, getting paid a lot to do nothing. One of the countless reasons why the PBC has done FAR more to hurt boxing than help.

LOL, I didn't realize that he just got injured less than three weeks ago. He was supposed to have a tuneup fight on May 19 but that will be pushed back another six weeks because of a deep bruise on his left hand. He last fought March 4th, 2017 against Danny Garcia.

great fight! this fight is a bit more evidence to my thought that bodywork is money in the bank is always over-stated. Vargas did LOADS of body work, all night and it didn't slow down Broner AT All. Not like it wasn't effective and scoring points and potentially hurtful - it just didn't have any kind of sustained impact over the fight in terms of slowing down or winding him etc.

really great fight, just about to see the decision and I would choose Vargas by 1 or 2 rounds. but we will see.

Wow, Broner is a douche bag ... lol omg. Everyone needs to see the end of the fight and the interviews...

this would have been a good 15 rounder!

                        LOL, Jim Gray was hilarious!

If Vargas had more pop in his fists, I think that bodywork pays massive dividends.
He also tagged Broner with several flush shots. Maybe Broner knows Vargas couldn't hurt him so he took those shots in order to counter.
But there were several incidence where Vargas was tee'ing off without much of a response from Broner.

Broner is a loser. Making fun of the guys acne condition? What is he, a 2YO?
And I had to laugh that after all that swearing and trash talking he has the audacity to start his interview by thanking God. Nice (sorry if this teetinger on OS's TOS).

He has such fast hands, but he's a plodder and slow worker.
And did anyone else notice the size difference between the two guys? I wouldn't be surprised if Broner was a good 10 to 15 lbs heavier than Vargas.
Broner would get absolutely murdered if he stopped hiding at 143 (thanks for inventing another bogus weight class Paq!).

All-in-all, I though the decision was a good one. Vargas def won the first half of the fight and Broner the 2nd.
But again, if Vargas had any sort of pop, he wins this fight hands down. He was the busier fighter and landed the more clean shots.

I really hope Broner is forced to fight a legit 147 or 140lb fighter so we can finally see him put to pasture.

If only Vargas had more pop in his punches. The frustration is that if Boener let his hands go, he would probably knock out or stop a lot more fighters. He literally waits until the 7th or 8th round to start fighting and let's his opponent rack up points. It the same thing every fight. His corner was livid. Dude listens to no one and thinks he is Ali or something. Oh well entertaining fight. Just disappointed that Boener didnt get ko'ed.

As we have discussed before his low punch output, poor counter-punching skills and lack of devastating power give him a hard ceiling every time he fights. His antics probably have kept him viable as a good draw for some time. He still pulls in a million or more for a fight ($1 million last night, Vargas $500K) but he's running out of opponents. His best immediate course of action would be to secure a Vargas rematch at the same pay level. Of course once he stops fighting or becomes irrelevant he will run out of money inside of two years and that's being generous.

With Jermall shining last night the Charlo 160 freight train keeps rolling and these guys can't be ignored.
