Alvarez-Kovalev 2 is apparently happening February 2 on ESPN.

Maybe one of the best fighter-turned-analysts out there. He really points out a lot that I'm missing and picks up on a lot of subtleties during a fight. Unfortunately, he mostly does the Spanish-language broadcasts on Showtime, so I rarely get him on any fights I'm watching, but Showtime could easily rotate in (or even go to 4-man on occasion) Marquez for Paulie once in a while for a nice change of pace. Although Paulie is great.

And as pk500 mentioned above, I also neglected to mention how good the veteran Steve Farhood is. Showtime really has an embarrassment of riches in their boxing broadcaster roster right now.
Good call on Marquez. I forgot about him, too! He's excellent.

You're so right about Showtime. The most stacked broadcasting lineup on boxing TV. They're the Golden State Warriors!

Solid fight. But I think Kovalev is heading downhill fast.

I still think Paulie is the gold standard, and I like what Tim Bradley's doing at ESPN. But Ward offered solid insight and analysis on the Superfly 3 card.

Hands up: I was wrong about SOG.
ward was better than i thought he would be as well....seems like the non-elite fighters do better analysis that the elite ones do (paulie), but ward gives great insight.

would have liked to see HBO's swan song telecast.....i'm sure lampley will get a little teary eyed.

HBO has a storytelling narrative before each fight that it rams down the viewers' brain. It's even worse when there's a 24/7 show before the fight. Fighter X will be speedy, Fighter Y will hammer away because of his tough upbringing in the 'hood, etc.

And Max continues to push that narrative even when the results in the ring don't match it. HBO and Max continued to foist the canard that Chocolatito was among the world's best after his loss and that Golovkin hasn't lost any of his power or speed from 2012 during recent bouts featuring both.

It's annoying and insulting to the viewers.

Showtime does a GREAT job at adapting its narrative as events unfold in the ring, probably because Al Bernstein is the best, no-bullsh*t fight analyst alive. And Steve Farhood isn't far behind. Both are better than anyone HBO can offer.
i have to admit, showtime's announcing team has great chemistry and stays on point every time i've heard them.

I think it's a really good fight partly because of Kovalez's downward trajectory and the possibility that he could right himself. Or will Alvarez cement his standing among the light heavyweights? The latter could lose and get a rubber match but the Krusher would be done with a loss particularly if he meets the canvas again.

Being HBO-less I followed the scoring of Jacobs-Derevyanchenko (this site had it 115-112 Jacobs). Another tough fight to score?

I had it 114-113 for Jacobs. DJ seemed gassed late in the fight. I had him up comfortably, but he gave away the final 3 rounds to make it close. His opponent was and is a skilled fighter. Good fight

That was an excellent technical fight..it was a joy to watch the science of boxing..I have never saw DJ get that gassed..but it takes alot of mental and physical stamina to stay focused and physically on point for 12 rounds..thats why only a very few can excel at doing it..

Beterbiev vs Joe Smith December 15 on the undercard of Canelo-Rocky Fielding.

                        Careful Beterbiev?

usyk vs. bellew 11/10 on DAZN....just a couple of weeks before the creed II release. too bad it wasn't ward vs. bellew, would've have been pretty cool to time it just before creed II, especially since ward appears in it. wonder if they ever sparred during the filming of creed.

I agree even though he came to his senses and did not take the fight..he is slowly becoming a circus show because of his constant need for attention and headlines..Its sad because he has a great legacy..these sideshows tarnish him..he cant live without the spotlight yet he knows of he fights a true boxer he is taking a L..he is truly at a crossroad now..
