Re: Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao DEAL DONE

I disagree that floyd was worried about a prime pacquiao, yeah he had speed and some good power, but he was never a one punch knockout artist though other than hatton. He hurts people through accumulation of punches. You might get floyd with once clean shot, but good luck landing a lot of clean shots in rapid succession. But i think the one thing that everyone forgets, pacquiao is really small. A great big man always beats a great smaller man. Pac doesn't have the reach or height to really bother floyd.

Stylistically, i always thought that a prime sergio martinez was a MUCH tougher fight than pacquiao ever was because he had those tools, and a really long reach.

Well, if Floyd wasn't worried he sure wasn't in a hurry to make $mega millions$ fighting Pac.

The old boxing axiom you are relating ("good big man beats a good little man") has probably meant a few things over the decades but mostly applied to a challenger from a lower weight class meeting a boxer in the weight class above him (Joe Louis vs Conn, Frasier or Ali vs Bob Foster, Hagler vs Hearns, etc. etc.). Yeah Floyd has the height and reach advantage, but both are small welterweights.

So you think Leonard and/or Hearns could have beaten Mayweather and/or Pac?

Ohh,i honestly thought that old phrase just meant size in general, not so much weight classes. But i guess that would make sense. And they are both pretty small, but i think height and reach especially could make a difference. That's one reason i honestly thought(and still think) khan could potentially be a tougher fight for mayweather than pacquiao. I feel like having a reach advantage on floyd(who has fairly long arms i think) would make it much harder for him to counter back, and make him have to change his gameplan more. For example, that pull counter where he sticks his head out with his hands down and then pulls back after they throw and counters them with his straight, wouldn't be nearly as effective as someone with range who wasn't close enough to be countered.

And yeah, Leonard and Hearns could of beaten Mayweather and Pacquiao(i think it's possible that floyd and maybe pacquiao as well could beat them both too) But i think floyd would make that fight hard on either of them, i feel like Hearns would give floyd more problems than Leonard with his range.

I don't think we're looking at an Ali-Frasier or a Leonard-Hearns 1, so a lot of the hype is just that. I may pass.
I've been hearing they will be asking for $95 (pay per view) for this fight. Wow!

I would have paid the 95 to see a prime Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez take on Floyd. Those were the fights I was hoping to see Floyd take on 4 or 5 years ago even as Pac was on top of his game.

I'm with you there. Looks like I was misinformed rage..$90 for standard definition and $100 for hd viewing. I will hopefully get some friends to go in on this as many of them are pissed at both fighters that it took this long and are hesitant to give them cash..

I always go to the theatre to watch it. I'm in Floyds home town so every fight is a big deal here. The theatres are packed and watching on the hundred foot HD is pretty sweet. Its a good atmosphere. It usually runs me between 15 and 20 per fight, this might be 25, but if the undercards are good, its well worth it to me for the night out.

I usually go to the theater too, it's pretty fun and the crowd gets hype. Considering how big this fight is, i might just split the price in between people at my place. I know for the canelo vs mayweather fight the theaters were sold out when i tried to get a ticket.

Floyd's about an 8-5 favorite right now. I can't remember when the odds were this close for one of his fights. Maybe Oscar?

^corrales probably, think he might not of been the favorite for that fight.

Re: Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao DEAL DONE

So i'm not the biggest boxing fan around but this fight...This fight is going to be the biggest thing for the sport since the Sugar Ray Leonard years or more likely since Ali was on top of the scene. This isn't just a regular ol' grudge match this is something that's already set to break records money wise. It's broken out of the little boxing bubble and is full on in the pop culture radar.

Boxing over the years has shot its foot a million times over and managed to survive but honestly, I hope this fight doesn't end in a BS/controversial way because this will be the biggest stage its been on in 35-40 years.

As for the fight, I seem to be one of the few that feel Floyd's going to win even though the odds show him as a slight favorite. It seems from everyone I hear they're all saying Pacquiao will win or are pulling for him.

I think the general consensus is that a lot of people(probably the majority) want floyd to lose, however a lot of people don't think he will, hence why he's the favorite.

Not too sure about that. There are quite a few Floyd fans at OS, at least there use to be.
