Every action in the game has a stamina cost associated with it. There is a giant table of tuning values for everything (each individual strike, takedown, block, etc, etc). They are all affected by various ratings.

The action performed will take a percentage of your short term and long term stamina.

There's short term stamina regen that's always on, and a percentage of the long term stamina is regenerated between rounds.

    Lower stamina affects things like:

    -playback rates of animations
-timing windows for things like takedown defense, sweeps, passes
    -effectiveness of strikes
    -etc

All pretty straight forward and what you'd probably expect.

One problem is that we only have one tuning set for real time clock and accelerated clock. As such, the long term stamina was tuned for the real time clock. The result of this is long term stamina drain is "as designed" for the real time clock, and you get much less long term stamina drain for an accelerated clock in the later rounds.

I suspect if you played a real time clock you would see more of what you came to expect from Fight Night in terms of paying the price in later rounds for over exerting in early rounds.

So the feedback I'm taking away from the demo reaction threads and this thread is that people here feel that:

    1. Short term stamina regens too fast, allowing too many strikes per round for their taste
    2. Long term stamina isn't drained enough over the course of a fight in the accelerated clock, but is more appropriate in the real time clock.
Thanks for the reply and I think you have a good grasp on the feedback here. That is the first I have read about stamina being designed around the real time clock, so thanks for mentioning that. Any plans to patch the accelerated clock stamina or should we use real time to get the most out of this feature?

ok thanks. Now does left/right still come into play? Left low kick/punch has to be parried with x button? Or either button will work ?

Re: EA UFC Retail Impressions Thread

So I played a Jones/Gus exhibition while the game is installing all the way to the hard drive. I am doing five rounders on hard mode. First fight got choked out by Jones in the first round. Second fight was close and was in the fifth round, I had full mount on Jones and he did a reversal and I was unable to get out of his mount and he ended the fight with ground and pound with 45 seconds left. I would have loved to see the scorecards on that one.

I know it was already mentioned earlier in this thread, but the reversals seem a little extreme. I had full mount on Jones four times in that second fight and each time he reversed it into his own mount. I pressed R2 and down on the right stick, is that wrong? Is there a better way to block reversals?

I can't comment on any patching plans at this time, so for now I'd recommend the real time clock. The downside for sim fans is the punch count will be higher, but you'll get a better sense of stamina drain in the later rounds. Same with permanent damage.

R2+Down blocks getups. R2 and R-Stick left/right blocks all ground transitions including sweeps (reversals).

Nope, left or right doesn't affect it. Both buttons work.

Yes. For example with the full guard sweep, when they try to roll you to their left, you have to hold R2 + Left and vice versa when they try to go right.

I'm going to assume you mean when he's knocked to the floor.

There are two different states the fighter can be in when he's knocked down. One is on his back flat, the other in what we called "butt scoot" position where he has his feet up in guard.

A more powerful KD will put the fighter on his back. A less powerful one will put him in butt scoot.

If he's in butt scoot, you can't dive on him until he is facing you, this was done so you are forced into his guard. This was meant to make these KDs less powerful in terms of the game balance. Unfortunately I think it's lead to a feeling of lack of responsiveness at times.

If he's on his back you should be able to pounce on him immediately from any angle and end up in mount.

Yes, you have to match the direction by reading the animation.

Although someone pointed out that from side control you can only hip out in one direction, so you don't really have to guess from that position, making it easier to block the sweep.

                            Thanks.

I am probably going to have to ask someone to play me online and just go through transition defense with me for five rounds. I feel pretty dumb but I can't seem to react to the direction fast enough.

I am a pretty big fan of the submission system. I don't mind the HUD as much as I thought I would, and I like the system (left stick to lock it in, right stick to block escape, right stick to escape). I got a better feel for it going through the tutorial a second time.
