Re: Are People Losing Interest Already?

Personally this game has no type of offline experience at all. Sure the obvious disappointments are there like not having enough animations for each fighter to make each one look and feel unique. No offline modes at all....What makes things even worst is the fact that the community can not share designs with each other. The community stays active by sharing and building with each other. This game just does not have that feeling of being a community

This game was developed by the same guys who brought us the fight night series. So me being a huge fan of the fight night champion game expected the same type of fun for offline modes. Fun factors of that game (FNC) included a cool story with great AI opponent's to match up with. We also had a fun community of people who loved to share our created players with each other and also shared ideas of changes in statistics for each fighter. This game is pretty much cut and dry and feels empty

I still play it on Xbox One but as of right now I'm messing around with my career mode because I'm not much of an online kinda guy. If I do play online it's against some of the people here.

I am not one to normally pick up for EA, especially with my opinions on their football franchise, but it wasn't just a matter of putting everything from UFC 3 in there. They have to do that and get it all to work. Getting the core gameplay was the 1st priority. While it definitely needs some work, it's not 100% bad. I like the damage being tied to stamina, although stamina should be much more severely punished. And certain animations should be much slower or flat out impossible to perform when gassed. But enough bad, we all know the bad. The footwork and countering and striking (when guys arent throwing 62 consecutive spinkicks) are all great positives. And stuff that should be built on.
I certainly wont pretend to know how games are made or coded. But I find it hard to believe THQ could have things in on an older system that EA doesn't. Things we discussed like standing subs and the sprawl position. On a new console with the time they had to work on this game I simply dont get it

You are talking about code over 3 games and 5 years of work, to be coded into a 1st effort. Now the Sprawl position, there is zero excuse for that, but stuff like an event mode and little used positions like Butterfly guard I can see being omitted. But for a 1st effort into the MMA world, and it was this development teams first attempt, EA MMA was made by an entirely different studio, it wasn't a bad job and there are a ton of positives to build off of. I do like the multiple ways to transition, and needing to block a specific side. Although the animation is terrible, postured strikes preventing a transition is a good thing, although it should prevent a get up too. The thing is for a first effort and having to code everything from scratch they didn't do a bad job. Now there are a ton of things they can improve upon, and better improve upon in UFC 2. I will not overlook the same flaws the next time around.

So standing subs would be difficult to code?

Re: Are People Losing Interest Already?

Yes thats more animations, figuring out how it fails in various stages. And just numerous things extra to program. And the only standing sub you really see with any regularity is diving on a guillotine from clinch. There is the very rare standing rnc, and the even more rare flying armbar or triangle. These don't happen frequently enough to be thst upset by their abcence they are cage superman punch type of rarity. It's nit like the ommission of sprawling a takedown. That is one of the inexcusable things for a 1st MMA game, because that is a part of the basics and they have the sprawl position, that you cannot get to by sprawling.

Well, I have to be straight forward and say I don't understand where all of the riffing and complaints are coming from, I play a few online games every day and I'm still having a blast!!

I'm right there with you! This game owns me right now! I can't get enough...I only play online...I'm not a career mode guy, so the lack of options there doesn't bother like others here. Just make sure online is stable and no HORRIBLE glitches and I'm good.

Re: Are People Losing Interest Already?

I've definitely lost interest playing offline, as career mode is repetitive and there isn't much differentiating between CPU fighters. I have played around 90 fights in Championship mode online and playing in the Black Belt tier I've had some very competitive and exciting fights. I see many complain about spamming, but I have yet to run into anything that I haven't been able to stop if I'm on top of my game and fully concentrating.

My only complaint about online would be not allowing me to view my opponents fighter profile. I understand why EA would not allow me to do this before the fight, but I don't see any reason for me not being able to view my opponents W-L after the fight.

Sprawl was patched in today. Stsnding subs would take way too much new programming fora patch. That is something that is gonna have to happen in the next game.

Re: Are People Losing Interest Already?

I'm losing interest. I just beat career mode on normal and after 40 or so fights I can see that, at heart, this is an arcade game and at the very most a hybrid leaning very heavily on arcade. It's fine, that game is alright, I've had fun with it, but overall it's pretty thin.

Even though it's fun, it's getting old because it's thin and doesn't have that gameplay depth that makes me want to come back over and over. I'm interested to see what direction they go for the next game and how much they tinker with the foundation (if at all). Remember how crazy different UFC 2010 was? It was for the worse BIG TIME, but they did take risks and learn from it.

Overal for me this was a 6.5 or 7 --- The arcade nature, lake of depth and control scheme brought it down for me.

As I said, it's OK. I'll probably do a bunch of fight now matches with real UFC fighters and trade it in early to mid august.
