Re: Average player base...
There are features of the game that are geared toward the hardcore like the grappling system. There are features of the game that are directed towards the casual fan like KO mode. EA wants both of them to buy the game.Comment

Re: Average player base...
If they enjoyed that week and left the game behind with a positive experience, that's as good as someone buying the game and playing for a year.
Harsh reality.
We're patching the game primarily for the guys who still play it though.Comment

Re: Average player base...
If MMA games had a hardcore fanbase like from other ea sports franchises like Fifa/madden/NBA then they would try focus more on the hardcore, right now they are trying to build the game to get at that level somewhat, which means they will need to turn casuals that might not even think about getting MMA games getting their next game because the last game left them with a postive experience.Last edited by Trillz; 07-06-2016, 03:49 PM.Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/im2good4u1

Re: Average player base...
There was frequently 6k still playing UFC 1 up until UFC 2 released on ps4.
I'd like more player retention for selfish reasons so I can find matches in my preferred game mode. With quick match being based on your rank, and having ranked gameplay and ultimate team it divides up the player base to much imo.
When I get into a video game I play online until a sequel is released if I like game. I'm still playing gt6 for ps3 online, lol.Comment

Allow players to select preferences for their style of online play, have the computer look for an opponent with similar preferences, that way player pool is not diluted, instead it is maximized.

Re: Average player base...
UT saved the game for me. If it wasn't for trying to collect different cards and the rpg element in this mode I would have long since left the game. The gameplay is still pretty fun for what it is but my hope is that they listened to the fan base and make UFC 3 the best mma game ever released.Comment

Their money is as green as yours, even if they only play for a week.

Yes, you get the money from the sale no matter how long they play for, but if your game isn't making a serious effort to retain players until around the time your next title is close to beginning marketing that's not beneficial at all.
I'll use Rocket League for example. The devs for that are absolutely focusing on player retention and it shows: their player base has done nothing but grow over the year. I got that free on PSN. I loved it. I eventually bought it on PC to play with a friend. I've since talked my brother and 4 friends into buying it. Another family member bought it purely because he saw me playing it. He'd have never even heard of it otherwise.
If I'd stopped playing Rocket League after 2 weeks for negative reasons I'd have never caused 5 other people to buy it. Who knows how many people - if any - they in turn have convinced.
Yes, players can simply exhaust a game's content, and in this case you should hope that the content was enjoyable for its entirety. Games that leave a good lasting impression are more likely to be recommended. I played Uncharted 4 for only 3 days, but I'd recommended it to anyone.
It's when players stop playing for negative reasons that you need to worry. There's various things about UFC 2's design that stopped me playing. I didn't like the majority of my online experience. More than that, I was almost immediately beyond the skill ceiling for the offline A.I and this immediately breaks flow.
As long as a game still entertains someone, the more likely they are to possibly recommend it. Rocket League still entertains me and has that free possibility, EA UFC 2 doesn't, unfortunately.Comment

I get where you're coming from but I think it isn't the best way to think about it at all.

They have added more offline modes. That shows they are trying. Online didn't really need much. Never does. Online sells itself. It is the only mode that will always have replay value.
The free trial now is another way they are trying to extend the life. The patches, etc. Yes, they need to worry about Career Mode for sure. This mode HAS to be much more in depth. The AI seems better now at least. They need to worry about it, but it is more the offline areas that they do.@bikingforjesus on InstagramComment
