Pretty easy to escalate a rock to a KD.

Once everyone starts doing that, predict the pattern and block-block-slip to survive.

Now mix in different strike patterns.

    That's when it gets fun.

People are surviving the rocks because no one has learned how to take advantage of them.

Of course body kicks are a great thing to whip out as well.
sounds great but im having massive trouble with timing those body kicks without them getting caught by the AI , and im struggling with blocking them myself with the 2 buttons?
we need drills in practice mode to learn specific blocks and combos..since the control scheme has changed drastically. will there be any in the full game?

Now that I'm used to it I can see that it's no too many rocks it's as gpd says people aren't playing correctly

If you keep evading and blocking there aren't a lot.

If you keep getting hit in real life you get rocked.

It's pretty good the way it is. And when people learn it it will improve how folk play and everything benefits

Once you get better at defensive options and distance management you'll get rocked less yourself.

Threads like this worry me, because one of the beautiful things about the game right now is that one good slip counter can send someone reeling. You don't need volume, just timing and good distance management. I don't want that to go away. I don't want to have to land 50 slip counters for anything to happen.
I'm not sure anyone's saying a really good counter shouldn't do any damage. More that it shouldn't take you rocking someone 5-6 times to finish someone. Maybe it's different at other weight classes but atm it takes just a bit too long of waiting for the chin meter to whittle down enough that you've got a good chance to KO someone.

Of course it's only 2 days in but I've learned how consistently break peoples guards but I could always be missing something.

I like a rock every now and then. Hell I have to admit that even UFC 2 a rock was a nice feeling, but you have to admit that so far this beta almost feels like a street fighter type game with all the sounds of a rock back and forth. you can play excellent and that one time you get rocked yourself, yep it does happen in real life, I totally get it. But something feels off here. Most of the time in real life if a rock happens, the fighter swarms them and finishes the fight in probably damn near 90% of the case. Every once in a while a fighter gets rocked over and over.... but most would agree after the 5th rock even a tiny chance the fighter looks like he is taking cover rather than fighting back immediately the ref has already called the fight.

This! Keep the game dangerous like real mma. Good defense matters! This game is so enjoyable win or lose!

So i have to agree with Zombie and the others. The rocks are fine.

At first i thought it was too frequent but after putting in some solid time with the beta and learning the nuances of the game, i can say that the damage system is in a good place. You have to fight smart this year.

Do not tone down the damage system at all....even if that means keeping the frequent rocks in.
                    Lineup:
                    PG) Gary Payton
                    SG) '95-'96 Michael Jordan
                    SF) Sapphire Scottie Pippen
                    PF) '95-'96 Dennis Rodman
                    C) Hakeem Olajuwon

I'm 100% on board with an unforgiving damage system.

When I say I want less rocks, I mean I want less because the fight's already ended and someone's out cold on the canvas.

This is likely about you getting used to block bust people.

I do think turtles survive a bit much on UT, though this hasn't much to do with rocks. It's more about a lack of KDNs.

I feel like I can block bust people (not UT) a good 85% of the time and it leads to an active knockdown and we reset and go again. I think it takes away a lot of tension.

I'm just not a fan of the idea of wearing someone's chin health down to get a KO. I watched ZombieRommel's Mcgregor video and it takes him like 5 KnDs and 5 rocks in 1 and a half rounds to get a Khabib out of there who's getting picked apart. Too much imo.

It's all personal preference I guess, I'm hoping the heavier weight classes with some increased power are for me. If I have to knock people down 6 times with Jimi Manuwa I'll be disappointed

It is wise of you to think about the big guys. There are plenty of fast finishes in LW already. So, if damage were harsher, the big boys would get nuked by anything.

True, i wish we had like 2 heavyweights in the beta so we could see the difference.
